Dear Parishioners: A cross-country bus made a sched-uled stop at a depot that was located near four different restaurants. The driver an-nounced, “Folks, we’ll be here for thirty minutes. The bus line has a strict policy never to recommend an eating place by name, so I am not permitted to tell you which restaurant of the four choices is the best. However, I can say this. While we are here, if you should need me for any reason, I’ll be at Tony’s Diner directly across the street.” In today’s first reading from the acts of the Apostles the eleven are faced with the task of finding a replacement for Judas Is-cariot who betrayed Jesus. The election dis-appoints those who only like dramatic reli-gion. It’s too simple. The story tells how Matthias and Joseph consented to be candi-dates. The Eleven offered a short common prayer and drew lots—the choice was Mat-thias. Now is that any way to choose an apostle? The whole thing is embarrassing, reminding one of the state lottery or draw-ing raffle tickets at our annual dinner dance. Sorry! Had God wanted to be dramatic, Paul would have been chosen as the new number twelve, not the unknown Matthias. Did God miss a teachable moment? No! But we might! He is teaching us to see the genu-ine value of common people and ordinary events. Here we are 2000 years since that first Church election, and the office of the Vicar of Christ is still filled by a simple election and a puff of white smoke above the Sistine Chapel. God’s ways are not our ways, but the Spirit assures us they are true.

Un autobús de larga distancia hizo una parada programada en un terminal que estaba ubicado cerca de cuatro restaurantes diferentes. El conductor anunció: "Amigos, estaremos aquí durante treinta minutos. La línea de auto-buses tiene una política estricta de nunca reco-mendar un lugar para comer por su nombre, por lo que no se me permite decirles cuál res-taurante de las cuatro opciones es el mejor. Sin embargo, puedo decir esto. Mientras estemos aquí, si me necesitan por alguna razón, estaré en “Tony's Diner” directamente al otro lado de la calle." En la primera lectura de hoy de los He-chos de los Apóstoles, los Once se enfrentan a la tarea de encontrar un sustituto para Judas Iscariote que traicionó a Jesús. La elección de-silusiona a los que sólo les gusta la religión dramática. Es muy simple. La historia cuenta cómo Matías y José consintieron en ser candi-datos. Los Once ofrecieron una breve oración en común y echaron a suertes: así ganó la posi-ción Matías. ¿Es ésa la forma de elegir a un apóstol? Todo esto es vergonzoso, acordándonos de la lotería estatal o del sorteo de boletos para la rifa en nuestra cena bailable anual. ¡Qué lásti-ma! Si Dios hubiera querido ser dramático, Pa-blo habría sido elegido como el nuevo apóstol número doce, no el desconocido Matías. ¿Perdió Dios un momento de enseñanza? ¡No! ¡Pero eso nos podría pasar a nosotros! Él nos está enseñando a ver el valor genuino de la gente común y los eventos ordinarios. Aquí estamos 2000 años después de la primera elec-ción de la Iglesia, y el oficio del Vicario de Cristo todavía se elige por medio de elecciones simples y una nube de humo blanco que sale de la Capilla Sixtina. Quien Fundó Tu Iglesia? Si tú eres luterano, tu iglesia la fundó Martín Lutero, un ex-monje católico en el año 1524. Si tú eres anglicano, tu iglesia la fundó Enrique VIII en 1534 por-que el Papa no le concedió el divorcio para poder casarse con Ana Bolena. Si tú eres presbiteriano, tu iglesia la fundó Juan Knox en Escocia en el año de 1560. Si tú perteneces a la Iglesia Episcopaliana, esta es una rama de la iglesia de Inglaterra fundada por Samuel Seabury en las colonias de Estados Unidos en 1785. Si tú perteneces al grupo de los Testigos de Jehová, Carlos Taze Russell inició esta iglesia en Pensilvania en 1879. Si tú eres metodista, tu religión fue organizada por J & C Wesley en Inglaterra en 1739, cuando decidió separarse de los anglicanos. Si tú eres bautista, los orígenes de tu iglesia se remontan al año 1609 cuando a John Smith se le ocurrió fundar esta religión. Si tú eres adventista del Séptimo día, este movimiento lo inició Guillermo Miller, un granjero americano bautista. La iglesia se organizó posteriormente hacia 1860. Si perteneces a cualquier otro grupo religioso del tipo "Evangélicos", "Iglesias de Dios", "Iglesia apostólica" o "Iglesia de Cristo", esos grupos se fundaron no hace más de cincuenta años. El dijo a Pedro: "Tú eres Pedro y sobre esta piedra edificaré mi Iglesia". Lee: Mateo 16,18. Y no dijo: "Sobre este pedregal edificaré mis iglesias." A Jesucristo no le gustan las divisiones, El quiere la uni-dad. Lee: Juan 17,21.

HOW SHOULD WE DRESS FOR MASS? People generally have no real problem wearing proper clothing when entering places that demand such attire. Would you ever consider attending a formal dinner or a wedding dressed in a tee shirt and shorts, or a tank top and swimming trunks? Each Sunday the Lord in-vites us to His House. Are you dressed properly for this important Sacred Sacrificial Meal? ¿CÓMO DEBEMOS VESTIR PARA LA MISA? La gente en general no tiene ningún problema en ver-dad en el uso de ropa adecuada al entrar en lugares que exigen tal atuendo. ¿Alguna vez consideraste ir a una cena formal o una boda vestido con una camiseta y pan-talones cortos, o una camiseta y pantalones cortos de playa? Cada domingo, el Señor nos invita a su casa. ¿Estás vestido adecuadamente para este Sacrificio de Cena Sagrada?

MOTHER’S DAY ENVELOPES At the beginning of May, at the entrance of the Church, you will find Mother’s Day envelopes. You can remember your mother, grandmother, aunt or other female relatives living or deceased. Fill out the envelope and return it either to the Church office or put it in the collection basket with your donation. We ask for a $10 donation for each remembrance. These envelopes will be placed on the altar during the month of May.
