7th Sunday in Ordinary Time: February 23 “But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you...” (Matthew 5:244)

Love your enemies, easier said than done no doubt. But, remember, the foundation of stewardship is prayer. When we are in close communication with God, it opens our heart and it turns our

attention away from “me” and moves it towards God and others. It allows us to have a little more empathy for “our enemy”.

When we pray for others, even “our enemies”, maybe it softens their hearts as well.

7o Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario: 23 de Febrero “Pero te digo, ama a tus enemigos y reza por los que

te persiguen...” (Mateo 5:44) Ama a tus enemigos, más fácil decirlo que hacerlo, sin duda. Pero, recuerda, el fundamento de la administración es la oración. Cuando estamos en estrecha comunicación con Dios, abre nuestro corazón y aparta nuestra atención de “mi” y la acerca a Dios y a los demás. Nos permite tener un poco mas de empatía por “nuestro enemigo”.

Si oramos por los demás, incluso por “nuestros enemigos”, tal vez eso ablande también sus corazones.

LENTEN GUIDELINES

Lent begins on Wednesday, February 26. Below are the guidelines of Lenten observance for the faithful in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence.

As outlined on the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' website (www.usccb.org) on Lenten fasting and abstinence, " fasting is obligatory for all who have completed their 18th year and have not yet reached their 60th year. Fasting allows a person to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may be taken, not to equal one full meal. Abstinence (from meat) is obligatory for all who have reached their 14th year. Fridays in Lent are obligatory days of complete abstinence (from meat) for all who have completed their 14th year. La Cuaresma comienza el miércoles 26 de febrero. A continuación están las guias de la observancia de la Cuaresma para los fieles en el Arquidiócesis de Galveston-Houston.

El Miércoles de Ceniza y el Viernes Santo son días de ayuno abstinencia. Los viernes de Cuaresma don días de abstinencia.

Wednesday 1 pm - 2 pm: “Vocations to Priesthood & Reli-gious Life” (includes Rosary & Divine Mercy Chaplet)

Wednesday 2 pm-3 pm: Catholic Daughter ’s Holy Hour (includes scriptural Rosary & Divine Mercy Chaplet)

Thursday 3 pm - 4 pm: “Conversion of America” (includes Patriotic Rosary & Divine Mercy Chaplet)

Thursday 6 pm - 7 pm: “Vocations to Priesthood & Reli-gious Life” (includes Rosary & Divine Mercy Chaplet)

Saturday 6 am - 7 am: For the sick of the Par ish (includes Rosary & Divine Mercy Chaplet)

Saturday 7 am - 8 am: For the par ish needs and all family intentions (includes Rosary & Divine Mercy Chaplet)

We are always in need of people to be “committed adorers” in our Adoration Chapel; and some of the weekly holy hours are in need of second Adorers.

HOMEBOUND MINISTRY / MINISTERIO DE LOS ENFERMOS

Fr. Joseph invites the community of St. Francis de Sales to join the Homebound Ministry (no experience required). We are all called to serve, let us share our time and talents with the sick and lonely. Please take a moment to read Matthew 25:35-36. The English Legion of Mary is open to all Catholic men or women over 18 years of age who have the good will to want to serve God in the capacity of helpers to the priest and who will conform to the Legion system. Members become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service. Works include parishioner visitation and visitation of the sick or aged, religious education, and other spiritual needs of the parish community. At each weekly meeting the Legionaries recite the Rosary and partici-pate in spiritual readings. We meet every Tuesday at 7:00 pm in the St. Mark meeting room. Our Lenten Journey begins on Ash Wednesday, February 26. It is the perfect time to grow closer to our Lord, Jesus, as we contemplate His walk on Calvary and His Passion and Death, in preparation for His Glorious Resurrection-we encourage you to spend some time during the Lenten season with Our Lord, Jesus, in Eucharistic Adoration. Our Adoration Chapel is open (24/7), beginning every Monday-Saturday from 9 am-4pm. You can choose which day and hour best suits your weekly schedule to commit. 40 Days for Life has already begun!

The Annual 40 Days for Life campaign will begin on February 26-April 5. 40 Days for Life is an internationally coordinated 40 day campaign that aims to end abortion through prayer, fasting, community outreach, and a peaceful all-day vigil in front of abortion facilities. St. Francis de Sales has two opportunities to participate in this important effort. To participate in the international effort, held at the Planned Parenthood abortion facility at 4600 Gulf Freeway, contact Clare@houstoncoalition.com or 713-395-1330. Christian Voices for Life is sponsoring a campaign targeting an abortion business at 8200 Wednesbury Lane in Sharpstown. The vigil will be from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm on Mondays and Thursday.
