Angel Tree Program 2016

The annual Angel Tree program sponsored by the Council of Catholic Women begins on November 5, 2016. This has been an annual “giving” project for our parish for many years. It is our opportunity as a parish to make Christmas a little merrier for the children and families of a local migrant worker camp. The primary need for the children is clothing and shoes. On November 5, a Christmas tree will be in the narthex adorned with pink and blue angels each with a child’s name and sizes of needed items. Also, gift card envelopes will be on the tree for food for the familes. Select an angel or a gift card envelope and purchase all the items listed on it, but only one of each item. If you want to buy multiple shirts, pants and shoes, then select more than one angel. Wrap the items and attach the angel to the gift. This insures that the child you selected gets your gift. Your wrapped gifts should be placed under the tree. The sealed gift card envelopes are to be placed in the basket by the tree by November 27, 2016. The priority is to provide clothing and shoes for each child. If you wish to give a toy please do so, but in addition to rather than instead of the items listed on the angels. Your generosity in the past has been overwhelming. The need is great this year and your support is sincerely appreciated.

REFLECTIONS FOR EUCHARISTIC ADORATION DISCIPLESHIP: TO KNOW HIM, TO LOVE HIM AND TO SERVE HIM He said to them, “You belong to what is below, I belong to what is above. You belong to this world, but I do not belong to this world. That is why I told you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I AM, you will die in your sins. John 8:24 Very frank, seemingly harsh words; but, when put together with the following words spoken to St. Catherine of Siena, we see the depth of relationship to which Jesus invites us in these passages. PRACTICE: Do you know daughter, who you are and who I am? If you know these two things you have beatitude in your grasp. You are she who is not, and I AM HE WHO IS. Let your soul become penetrated with this truth, and the Enemy can never lead you astray; you will never be caught in any snare of his, nor ever transgress any commandment of mine; you will have set your feet on the royal road which leads to the fullness of grace, and truth, and light. Raymond of Capua; The Life of Catherine of Siena, reprinted in S.C. Biela; The Two Pillars, p. 81; 2006. Do you know who you are? Is your first answer your profession? Does your mind go first to your state in life? God is calling you to a much deeper understanding of who you are. God’s definition of who you are is tied to who He is. If you stay with Him in the right relationship you will be on the road to great things. Do you know who God is? Do you see that God IS? He is greater than everyone and everything because he created everyone and everything. He IS. Reflect on the magni-tude of this. As Jesus says, “Let your soul become penetrated with this truth”. What feelings do you have about being “one who is not”? Jesus reminds us that God is not of this world and to be fully with Him we must look beyond the lives and things we have on this earth, to set our sights higher. He tells us that in order to achieve this we must fully accept that God is everything and we are nothing in relation to His eve-rything. Can you do this? St Gregory teaches us that "Perhaps it is not after all so difficult for a man to part with his possessions, but it is certainly most difficult for him to part with himself. To re-nounce what one has is a minor thing; but to renounce what one is, that is asking a lot" (St. Gregory, Homilies on the Gospels). AmercanCatholic.org Jesus asks a lot but, in exchange, he gives way beyond what we can ever obtain for ourselves. He gives us safety from evil, the peace of sainthood, and the fullness of grace, and truth, and light. He gives quite an enormous gift to some-one “who is not”. Pray and work toward acceptance of who God is and who you are. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Friday 9:00am to 9:00pm in the Chapel of Adoration The Divine Mercy Chaplet is prayed at 3:00pm every Friday. All are welcome. If you would like to join The Adoration Program at St. Frances Cabrini call or email Alice Burns 919-306-6292 [email protected].
