Inspired by this lovely book, they busily created their own caterpillars and painted colourful butterflies. Tremendous fun was had exploring mini-beasts in ice which was a popular activity on a hot day. Everyone loved the outdoor activity, moving like butterflies with streamers in the garden. STEAM ACTIVITY DAY It was full STEAM ahead on Wednesday as the pupils at St Faiths took part in another creative cross curricular STEAM day. They travelled to Bangladesh where they met Jui, a six-year-old child from the Rajasthan region of the country. They learnt about Juis life and she showed us the difference that growing pumpkins can make to the lives of people living in flood affected regions of Bangladesh. Practical Action helped Juis family learn how to grow pumpkins on the sandbar left behind once the flooded rivers subsided. Her family are now able to grow food to feed their family and any income generated from the excess pumpkins will be used to tutor their children. Our St Faithians spent the morning learning more about Bangladesh; the country, people and its geography. The children were set mathematical and scientific challenges within this real-life context, which gave them the opportunity to display the impressive skills they have acquired from the core subjects. For their final challenge the children were required to take part in a Design and Technology activity which tasked them to create packaging for Juis familys pumpkin seeds. Their finished product required a recipe, based on pumpkins to be presented on their package design. They were also assessed on their ability to link the Bangladesh concept learnt in the morning sessions to their products design. The creativity of our children always impresses me and with each STEAM task they raise the bar higher and higher. Just look at the range of packaging from across the school. The future is bright with such a hard- working and considerate group of St Faithians!

Head’s Corner

Who’d have thought we could have had such a lovely day based around pumpkins. Mr Andrews however, achieved this and with his inimitable humour and enthusiasm. Sadly, we have no pumpkins in our vegetable patch but the children and I are munching our way through some delicious broad beans and it won’t be long before the strawberries ripen ready for eating. How fantastic it is that that the Year 5s join us on Monday!

Nursery News

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a favourite story for our Nursery children. Inspired by this lovely book, they busily created their own caterpillars and painted colourful butterflies. Tremendous fun was had exploring mini-beasts in ice which was a popular activity on a hot day. Everyone loved the outdoor activity, moving like butterflies with streamers in the garden.

STEAM ACTIVITY DAY

It was full STEAM ahead on Wednesday as the pupils at St Faith’s took part in another creative cross curricular STEAM day. They travelled to Bangladesh where they met Jui, a six-year-old child from the Rajasthan region of the country. They learnt about Jui’s life and she showed us the difference that growing pumpkins can make to the lives of people living in flood affected regions of Bangladesh. Practical Action helped Jui’s family learn how to grow pumpkins on the sandbar left behind once the flooded rivers subsided. Her family are now able to grow food to feed their family and any income generated from the excess pumpkins will be used to tutor their children.

Our St Faithian’s spent the morning learning more about Bangladesh; the country, people and its geography. The children were set mathematical and scientific challenges within this real-life context, which gave them the opportunity to display the impressive skills they have acquired from the core subjects. For their final challenge the children were required to take part in a Design and Technology activity which tasked them to create packaging for Jui’s family’s pumpkin seeds.

The future is bright with such a hard-working and considerate group of St Faithian’s!
