We can come to know and love God
I was listening to the radio this week and heard a song I
found myself singing. The refrain was, “I believe most
people are good.” Human beings have a bad reputation.
We are seen hurting our environment, our neighbor and
ourselves. This looks like most people are bad. The truth
is most people are good because God made us good. I want
to emphasize that he made us very good but not perfect. He
made us with the desire to know and love him.
“The desire for God is written in the human heart, because
man is created by God and for God; and God never ceases
to draw man to himself” (Catechism of the Catholic Church
27). I think back to my childhood and can see how this
statement is true. When I had the innocence of a child it
was easy for me to see God’s hand in everything, especially
his creation. I felt drawn toward God in giving him praise
as I played in the dirt, climbed a tree, or played in the snow.
I also felt drawn to the church, to go into it, to sit, to light a
candle and to say “hi”. When listening to the words of
scripture I felt drawn into the story by placing myself in the
scene with my vivid imagination.
Much of the innocence of childhood is gone, but I am still
drawn to God. The one thing that tends to get in my way is
sin. The other things are my own anxiety and ego. This
can look like I’m bad all the time. But when I go to confes-
sion, and celebrate Mass, the original innocence returns and
once again God reminds me that he made me to be very
good. I recognize that I’m more than a spiritual person. I
am a religious person listening to the Father calling me
back to himself.
Fr. Jeff
Podemos llegar a conocer y amar a Dios.
medio ambiente, a nuestro prójimo y a nosotros mismos.
Padre Jeff

Measure 106 is a statewide ballot initiative to stop our tax dollars from funding elective and late-term abortions.
The measure doesn’t stop anyone from choosing an abortion, but it will give Oregon taxpayers freedom from having to pay for other people’s choices.
