Parish Mission Statement The Catholic community of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, united in the love of God, comes together to

worship the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, to provide for the spiritual growth of each member, to minister to one another’s needs, to be servants and neighbors to all, to strengthen and share faith, to experience the richness of Jesus Christ. The Catholic community of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, aware of its call to be the good news, accomplishes its mission through worship, education, service and personal example.

May God Bless and keep safe in his care our Service Men and Women whose lives are in danger every day. They heroically

serve to defend and maintain freedom around the world as well as at home. Our prayer for them reflects our great admiration and love for them. May God bless them, watch over them, and protect them always.

Prayer for Vocations “Lord of the harvest, BLESS young people with the gift of courage to respond to your call. Open their

hearts to great ideals, to great things. INSPIRE all of your disciples to mutual love and giving – for vocations blossom in the good soil of faithful people, INSTILL those in religious life, parish ministries, and families with the confidence and grace to invite others to embrace the bold and noble path of a life consecrated to you. UNITE us to Jesus through prayer and sacrament, so that we may cooperate with you in building your reign of mercy and truth, of justice and peace. Amen.” (Pope Francis)

Thank you from the Seton Food Pantry It’s hard to believe we have been offering our pantry families prepackaged bags

for two months now. While church services were suspended, it is amazing that the food items continue to make their way to our gathering space each week. Thank you for the constant support and dedication to the families in our community. We will continue to do our part with this needed endeavor.

Anna Asks& When I enter Church, should I bow or genuflect? When I enter Church, should I bow or genuflect? When I enter Church, should I bow or genuflect? When I enter Church, should I bow or genuflect? Genuflection, bending the right knee to the ground, is a common

gesture that is steeped in religious symbolism. It is an ancient custom that helps Christians pray with both body and soul. It is a sign of adoration, reserved for the Eucharist (as well as for the cross during solemn veneration on Good Friday). Before the tabernacle was placed in the sanctuary, it was appropriate to bow your head toward the altar before entering your row for Mass. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal reminds us of the ancient tradition of seeing the altar as representing Christ, the Living Stone (cf. 1 Peter 2:4). Because of this association, a bow of the body is prescribed as the normal gesture made toward the altar, as if toward Christ himself. In particular, all the ministers bow toward the altar when they arrive at the sanctuary at the beginning of Mass, and also at the end of Mass, before leaving the sanctuary. Now that the tabernacle is located in the sanctuary, the priest and other ministers genuflect when they arrive at the sanctuary at the beginning of Mass and when leaving at the end. It is also appropriate for parishioners to genuflect before taking their seatthat is, of course, if their bodies still allow them that flexibility. In that case, continue to bow is the right posture.

Anna Asks& What is the proper way to receive Holy Communion during pandemic? What is the proper way to receive Holy Communion during pandemic? What is the proper way to receive Holy Communion during pandemic? What is the proper way to receive Holy Communion during pandemic? The Diocese issued the following

protocols for receiving communion when attending Mass: 1. MASK & SANITIZE Place your mask over your mouth and nose

and sanitize your hands. Gloves cannot be worn for the reception of Holy Communion. 2. APPROACH ONE SECTION AT A

TIME Wait until the row or section ahead of you lines up before leaving your seat to approach the Eucharistic Minister,

maintaining 6 feet separation from others in line. 3. RECEPTION Keep your mask on when you reach the Eucharistic Minister

and respond "Amen" as you receive in your hands. Step six feet away, lower your mask, and place the host in your

mouth. Immediately replace your mask and return to your seat.

Church and Office Hours The office has returned to normal hours (9am-3pm Monday to Thursday). The Church is open for

private prayer until 7pm daily. Please respect the social distancing requirements of six-feet and wear a mask when interacting with staff and other parishioners.

Please check our website for up to date information regarding events at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.

Please join us next weekend, June 27/28 as our newly ordained Deacon, Brendan Foley will be serving as Deacon and

preaching the homily at all Masses.

Graduations are upon us In one form or another, our high school seniors are celebrating graduations in the coming days and

weeks. I am not sure if they would be rightly called “commencement exercises.” According to Harvard, “commencement reflects the meaning of the Latin inceptio (“beginning”), the name given the ceremony of initiation for new scholars into the fellowship of university teachers in medieval Europe. The event marked the commencement or “inception” of their full-fledged academic lives.” They finished studies in order to begin teaching. While our high school seniors are not immediately beginning formal teaching careers, they will teach. They will take the lessons learned from the disappointments of their final months in high school and teach future generations how to make the best of what life throws at them. They will model and teach others how to sacrifice personal desire for the good and health of others more vulnerable than they are. Harvard had a different purpose for their ceremonies (to which they brought live elephants in 1797), and our graduates may not be starting academic careers at Harvard, but they are teaching others what really matters in life. Congratulations and may God continue to strengthen you on your journeys!

Daily Mass returns to regular schedule With the attendance capacity increased to 25% in the Worship Space and the

technology adjustments in place, Mass has returned to the regular schedule. We will continue to stream daily: Monday at 9:00AM, Tuesday at 6:45AM, Wednesday at 9:00AM, Thursday at 6:45AM, Friday at 6:45AM & 9:00AM

Saturday Confessions Saturday Confessions have returned to their regular time of 4:00PM. In order to allow for social

distancing and privacy, Confessions will be held in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Please line up in the Gathering Space if the chapel doors are closed. As always, you can contact Fr. O’Connor to schedule a Confession.

Prayer for Spiritual Communion My Jesus,

I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Electronic Offerings Thank you to the numerous parishioners who continue to send in their offering envelopes. Perhaps you

are looking for another way to do that. If you have online billing with your bank, you can request the bank to mail a paper check to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church at no cost to you or the parish. This can be set up on a recurring or one-time basis. We ask that you note your envelope number on the check either as the account number or in the memo line. Often this can be set up online through the “Bill Pay” section of your bank account website.

As this season’s Rotary Backpack program comes to an end we wish to express our gratitude for the tremendous support given to us! Prior to the COVID-19 shut down we were providing weekly individual supplements (ie “bags) to 28 students within two schools and bi-weekly/tri-weekly bins of supplements to two other schools. When the schools closed the need greatly increased! In conjunction with the school district’s food services we continued to provide supplements to cover a student’s weekend needs. Beginning with an estimated 150 “bags” the need quickly increased to 630 “bags” per week – that's a total of 8,190 food items per week! We could not have managed this amount of giving without your support! Again, our thanks! We wish everyone a safe/ healthy summer and (hopefully) look forward to your support when we resume our project in the coming school year!

~ Sincerely, Baldwinsville Rotary BackPack Program

Vocation Perspective “So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” God is always looking out for what’s

best for us. If He is calling you to be a priest, sister or brother, there is nothing to fear. Call Father Jason Hage (315) 470-1468, or write: [email protected].

A Prayer Chain is in place at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Serving on the Prayer Chain is a way for good people to serve God and

to bring blessings to others who will be grateful for the prayers of Prayer Chain Members. If prayers for self or for others are needed and desired, please call the Parish Office at 652-4300 and your prayer requests will be forwarded to Angie Peterson.

Novena Prayer for an end to the Coronavirus Pandemic

O Mary, full of grace, Patroness of this nation and Mother of the Church, in this time of illness and world-wide

need, we seek your intercession for the human family before your Son’s throne of grace and mercy. We ask for

strength in adversity, health in weakness, and comfort in sorrow. Help us, O Blessed Mother, to be filled with

confidence and trust in the tender compassion of our God. Let us not be afraid, like our own Saint Marianne

Cope, who entrusted her life and ministry among the outcasts of society into the care of our Divine Physician.

Continue to watch over all who are sick as well as those who care for them and give wisdom to all who are

seeking a cure. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
