    Dear Parishioners,

My heart is filled with gratitude as I continue to minister to you here at St. Dismas and as I witness your example of faith and dedication to our parish, I cannot but thank God for you. I am moved and edified not only by your devotion but more so by your kindness and generosity. I know I say this often but as I have already mentioned before, I cannot cease thanking our ministers and our volunteers for their hard-work and service to our parish family. Our lectors and communion ministers, our ushers and servers, our Women’s Club and Garden Club, the Men’s Club and the Knights of Columbus, the Arts and Environment, the Bereavement Group, our Parish Outreach, our money counters, our Catechists and all the other Clubs and ministries in our parish do their task with such love, joy and dedication that truly reflects your faith in Christ. THANK YOU! God knows how much you do and only He can recompense you.

Please continue to pray for our parish as we go through Renew My Church Process. There are still a lot of questions and uncertainties but let us put everything in God’s hands and allow the Holy Spirit to walk us through this. Trusting and praying, we can be sure that whatever decision comes out, it will be for the best. Remember, God is a loving Father who wants only the best for us His people.

November 1st is a Holy Day of Obligation. We will have a Vigil Mass on October 31st at 6:00 PM, and on Nov 1st, 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Come and celebrate with us those who are already in heaven enjoying eternal bliss with God. We also invite you to come on November 2nd to the Parish Memorial Mass at 11 am and the Los Fieles Difuntos Mass at 7 pm.

Holiday Bazaar is coming up and the ladies are selling raffle tickets after each mass on Sundays. Please get them and offer them to your friends and family to make this a successful event. We also ask you to consider donating items for this sale. You may contact Nancy and Roxy for details. You may find their contacts in this bulletin. We are grateful for your help.

On November 4th, the Men’s Club is having their planning meeting for the Veteran’s breakfast. We invite men of all ages to please come and join the men of our parish in this ministry that does so much for our community just like the Women’s Club. Come with ideas and enthusiasm. You are needed!

God bless you and keep you. Fr. Xamie

There will be a travel meeting on Sunday, October 27, 2019. This meeting is to view and pick

an itinerary for July 2020 travel. We will meet at Bob & Anne's Restaurant, 1739 N Sheridan Rd

    in Waukegan at 12:30 pm. R.S.V.P to Mary B @ 847-623-7510

    Knights of Columbus, Council 731

Since we made our goal of collecting over $10,000 for our Annual Intellectual Disability Tootsie Roll Drive, we want to give a THANK YOU: FIRST, to everyone who helped with the Parish Bulletins, who notified parents, who gave us office support, and to all volunteers who gave up hours of their precious time for our collection. SECOND, to our amazing, very passionate students who gave over 100% effort. And THIRD, to everyone who donated to help us make our goal. When we work together, we can make our goals.

Everything we collect goes back for people in our community, for parish activities, and for any community schools. As we know, our Catholic schools are not funded as Public and Private schools. Public schools are mostly tax funded, Private Schools are mostly aren’t funded, and our Catholic schools are parent, community, parish, school activities, and donation funded. The many and various activities and functions we have for funding and solidarity are extremely important for our Community, Parish, and our precious Schools.

When we all come together and pitch in our time or donate financial support for these activities, functions, and campaigns--GOOD THINGS HAPPEN---we know our Blessed Father will see to it.

    TOGETHER WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE

    BECOME A KNIGHT

We invite all of the men in this parish, whether young of age or young of heart to join us in

becoming a Knight. Recruiting will be at St. Dismas after the weekend Masses of November 2 & 3.

Stop by and talk to us for more details and join us in this ministry.

    St. Dismas Memorial Mass

On Saturday, November 2nd at 11:00 am our annual Memorial Mass will be celebrated in memory of everyone who has died in the last year and was buried from St. Dismas or has some connection with our Parish. Invitations have been mailed to the bereaved families but all are welcome to attend. There will be light refreshments afterward.

Ä|yxà|Åx Éy á{tÜxw ÄÉäx tÇw }ÉçA Catholic Charities Needs Help in Lake County for Christmas

Ours is an adopt-a-family program. Last year it served more than 13,000 of the county’s neediest by providing them with Christmas Gifts. Donors come from a variety of sources. Many are businesses from around the county; others are clubs, schools, fraternal organizations and individuals and their families. Our largest source of donors, however, are churches and individuals who hear of the need at church. It is there that Christ’s message is most audibly heard and most clearly put into action. It is there that the call to us to be servants best translates into the building of the kingdom. Donors are provided first name, age, gender, sizes and a gift preference for each member of a sponsored family. They are then asked to shop for their designated person(s) and return the gifts to Catholic Charities for distribution.

The economic situation, though improved, hasn’t reached a lot of folks, so the need continues and finds many with substantially less discretionary income. If you would like to be involved in this work of heart, contact Jim Wogan or Barbara Campbell, 847-782-4210 or at [email protected]. Consider involving your work group at your place of business or others in your social circle.

Also, if you know of a group interested in a one shot volunteer opportunity, they might want to consider working a shift at the distribution center. In that case, contact Sue Fowler at 847-782-4126.

    WEEK AT A GLANCE

Grateful for Our Good Sheperd How lucky are we? For the past several months, our parish has been in a transition. We have all been watching our new pastor, Fr. Xamie Reyes, find his way around his new community, meeting and greeting parishioners, trying to remember names week to week, establishing his own routine without disrupting the normal flow of our parish. Little has changed, but what-ever changes have been made so far has been welcome. The most distinct and observable change has been the sing-song chant of the Liturgy of the Eucharist. It may not appeal to all, but it is enjoyable for me, and has made me listen to the prayers in a different way. I look forward to seeing other changes Fr. Xamie decides to make. St. Dismas Parish has truly been blessed with a string of good pastors. Following a short period of troubling times, our parish pulled together under the leadership of Fr. Jack Ryan and was united once again. Our parish continued to thrive under Fr. Pat Rugen, and we are today a vibrant, diverse community of faith-filled people working together to love and serve the surrounding com-munity. It is up to us, the parishioners, to continue to love and serve our community behind the leadership of Fr. Xamie. Please consider sharing your time, talent, and treasure to support the mission of St. Dismas Parish. Prayerfully yours, Mark Matias

    Congratulations !!
