MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL... Remembrance Day, November 11th is a day on which we all take time to honour those who have sacrificed their lives to defend the rights of all people to be free. On November 11 th , an assembly will take place for all students at 11:00 to help our students recognize the importance of this day in the lives of all Canadians. Parents are welcome to attend. For a small donation, students will receive a poppy in support of the Royal Canadian Legion. We are encouraging everyone at St Davids School to be “difference makers”, those who invest in others in special ways so that it changes the quality and course of a day...or even a life! We are making a conscious effort to recognize those who invest in people on a daily basis. An announcement in our school celebrates our difference makers daily! The character trait for November is respect. COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS We value the parent and community partnerships that support St Davids students to reach their full potential as future citizens. The St Davids and District Lions Club has been a strong supporter of St Davids School and we are honoured to continue this important partnership again this year. We look forward to the Friday Night Fish Dinners beginning in January 2014! Our students, parents and staff are excited to support them! The St Davids Lions Christmas Tree Sale opens on November 30 th . St Davids Firefighters also offer spaghetti dinners and other community events. Look for flyers coming home! Also, a special thank you goes out to our volunteers who work in classrooms each day and to Parent Council for providing fun venues that boost funds and enrich school life. We believe that our parent and community partners strengthen the positive impact that we have on students. MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL... Remembrance Day, November 11th is a

day on which we all take time to honour those who have sacrificed their lives to

defend the rights of all people to be free. On November 11th, an assembly will take

place for all students at 11:00 to help our students recognize the importance of this

day in the lives of all Canadians. Parents are welcome to attend. For a small donation, students will receive a poppy in

support of the Royal Canadian Legion.

We are encouraging everyone at St Davids School to be “difference makers”,

those who invest in others in special ways so that it changes the quality and

course of a day...or even a life! We are making a conscious effort to recognize

those who invest in people on a daily basis. An announcement in our school

celebrates our difference makers daily!

The character trait for November is respect.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS We value the parent and

community partnerships that support St Davids

students to reach their full potential as future citizens.

The St Davids and District Lions Club has been a strong supporter

of St Davids School and we are honoured to continue this important partnership

again this year. We look forward to the Friday Night Fish

Dinners beginning in January 2014! Our

students, parents and staff are excited to support them!

The St Davids Lions Christmas Tree Sale

opens on November 30th.

St Davids Firefighters also offer spaghetti dinners and other community events.

Look for flyers coming home!

Also, a special thank you goes out to our volunteers who work in classrooms each

day and to Parent Council for providing

fun venues that boost funds and enrich school life. We believe

that our parent and community partners strengthen the positive impact that

we have on students.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT –

SAVE THE DATE! Our Christmas concert is

planned for Wednesday, December 18th. There will be

a day and evening show with all classes participating. Mrs.

King has started planning our Christmas Concert. We will be highlighting other

December traditions at our Dragons Den assemblies throughout the month.

FUNDRAISING PRIORITIES In consultation with staff and parents,

we have determined some priorities for spending during the 2013-2014 school

year.

Kindergarten Smartboard: bringing

21st century learning and opportunity to all kindergarten classrooms.

iPads, Netbooks and Technological Supports: we would like to continue

the use of iPads, netbooks and other technologies (e.g. LiveScribe pens) to

differentiate student learning across all grades.

Math Teaching and Learning Resources: our current focus across

the school on math learning through problem-solving requires that a

variety of thinking tools and manipulatives are available to

students at all times.

Physical Education Equipment: over

the years, and due to frequent use, equipment gets worn and needs to be

restocked. We are also looking for equipment that younger students can use, like lower hoop nets.

Bake sale proceeds, among

others, will support these priorities throughout the

year. More details will follow next month! Thank you for

your support. We made $307.00 for October bake sale!

MAGAZINE FUNDRAISER Thank you so much for supporting our magazine fundraiser, which funds the purchase of needed resources that are not covered through the school board budget. Through your generosity and hard work, we raised $3000.00!

PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS Progress Reports were sent home on

October 29th. You should have received your Parent-Teacher interview

appointment time in the report envelope. Our teachers value the opportunity to

discuss student progress with all parents. Thank you for making the time

to meet with us to discuss your child’s progress.

You should leave the interview with an

understanding of the following: 1. What skills does my child possess and

need to work on? 2. What activities can we do at home to

strengthen those skills? What are our next steps?

3. Does my child complete his/her work and assignments conscientiously?

4. Is my child facing any struggles in class not related to her/his schoolwork?

INCLEMENT WEATHER

There may be times during the school year where

inclement weather or other situations could cause

transportation cancellations or school closures. At

times when student transportation has been

cancelled and schools remain open, the decision of

whether or not to have children in school on that

day rests with the parent or guardian. Should you

decide not to send your child to school in the event that transportation is cancelled but schools remain open, or if your child is ill or late, please ensure that you call your child’s school to inform them of your child’s absence.

A key resource in any emergency is the DSBN

Emergency information form that you filled out at

the beginning of the school year. Please let the

school know of any changes in contact information

or procedures you wish to be followed throughout

the school year. Information about transportation

cancellations and school closures will be available

as soon as it is available through the following:
