A Reflection of the Gospel from Living Liturgy 2017: The gospel this Sunday is about bread. However, this bread is surely not mass-produced in some factory. It is not even artfully crafted in some small bakery or home kitchen, as special as that is. This bread is unique, unequaled, unsurpassed in its nourishment. This bread is more than a staple of life. It is Life. In the gospel Jesus is the bread that is the living bread; this is all we need to “live forever.” The reasoning is simple enough: by partaking of Jesus’ Body and Blood we become what we eatwe become the “one body” in which we all share. This is the “Holy Communion” that assures us of who we are as baptized Christians the Body of Christ. This is why Eucharist is (and remains throughout our life) a sacrament of initiation: we are constantly being fed on the Bread of Life and constantly drawn more deeply into being who we aremembers of the one Body of Christ. As members of Christ’s Body, we are to be his life poured out in our everyday good living. We are to give our life his life!unreservedly for others. It is far too easy for us to file out of pews into the Communion line, receive, return, leave after Mass is over, and get on with our lives. The food and drink that Jesus offers us in this memorial celebration requires of us conscious preparation, deliberate partaking, and ongoing savoring by how we live. This means becoming more aware of others’ needs and responding to them; it means doing our everyday tasks well and out of love; it means being honest, just, and forgiving. Eternal life is the fruit of our transformation in Christ. Eternal life is the fruit of our transformation in Christ. We are to remain in him and are sent to be his Presence in the world. Catholic Service Appeal 2017 (CSA): We are currently at 59% of our goal. We are over half of our target of $21,425. We are still in need of $8,885.00 to meet our assessment. Fr. Bill will be sending a letter to all those who we haven’t heard from. Thank you for your generous contributions to CSA. St. Cyril Knights of Columbus Golf Outing: We are once again planning our largest fund raiser of the year. It is our Golf Outing which will be hosted at North Star on Saturday, July 15, 2017 starting at 9 am. A team of 4 is $200. If you would like to make a donation of $100 in memory of your loved one or for yourself, a sign will be made and placed on one of the holes the day of the outing. There are flyers at the church entrances. Other donations and non-perishable prizes are need for the golfers. Please return the form or mail to: Jerry Horak, PO Box 424, Elsie, MI 48831. Liturgy of Word for Children-Pre-school & Kindergarten: This will take place during Mass. A need for this has been expressed by some young parents. The children will leave at the beginning of Mass with a catechist and helpers to listen to the Sunday readings on their level and also do an activity related to the theme. They will return at Offertory time. We are in need of helpers as well as ones needed to teach the lesson each Sunday morning. You would be on a rotation. Plans are to start this September. Please consider praying about this ministry and call Margaret Horak at 862-5027 if you can help. Preparation needs to take place this summer per Diocese requirements. All who work with children need Virtus training put on by the Diocese. Please respond ASAP. Thank you . Margaret. Home Bound Ministry: If you have a pix (Holy Communion holder) that you are no longer in need of, please return it to the sacristy. We are in continuous need for them as our sick list changes. Thank you in advance.
