St. Cecilias School evolved from classes

held at the back of the church run by Mrs.

Florita Greene in 1955. Catholic Bishop of

    Nassau, Paul Leonard Hagarty, O.S.B.

invited the Sisters of Charity, Canada to

assist with the school. Sr. Mary AncellaEgan became the headmistress. They were

replaced by the Sisters of St. Joseph, North

Bay, Ontario. Fr. Arthur Chapman along

with other priests worked tirelessly to

develop the school building. In 1959, they

staffed the nine room school of 130

    students with Sisters Ellen Foley

    (headmistress) Theresa Verdun, Suzanne

Roy, Ruth Potvin, Mrs. Bethel, Miss Green,

    and Mrs. Ferguson -Moss.

Through the years the school experienced

further growth under the leadership of lay

    principals, Mrs. Julia Munroe, Mrs.

    Jacqueline Malcolm, Mrs. Cynthia Moss,

Mrs. Claudette Rolle, Mr. Randol Dorsett
