Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It is with both joy and sadness that I announce to you that Fr. Eli Lopez, our beloved pa-rochial vicar, has been named administrator of Christ our Light Parish in Navasota, Texas and St. Stanislaus Parish in Anderson, TX. That Cardinal Di Nardo has entrusted him with administering a parish after two years of ordination and priestly ministry is truly a testa-ment to his priestly service, his pastoral abilities, and the administrative lessons he has learned so well while at St. Cecilia’s. I am sad to lose him due to this particular need in the Archdiocese but I am very happy for him. For one, he would finally have some sympathy for me! We will look forward to his return to St. Cecilia as pastor!

We will have a chance to say farewell and send him to Navasota and Anderson with prayers and our best wishes at a Mass of Thanksgiving and reception in his honor on Wednesday, June 28th in the Community Center. In the meantime, please continue to pray for him as he transitions and prepares for another adventure and pray for our parish as well in this time of change.

Sincerely in Christ,

Father Francis

After two years of priestly ministry at St. Cecilia Catholic Chruch, Cardinal Dinardo has reassigned me to be administrator of Christ Our Light Parish in Navasota, TX and St. Stan-islaus arish in Anderson, TX. It has been a blessing to serve the community of St. Cecilia parish and getting to know so many wonderful people.

Thank you to Fr. Francis for making my first assignment a chance to learn so much to help me in my next assignment. Thank you to the parish staff and school staff for welcoming me from day one. All of you made my first years in the priesthood rewarding. Thank you to all the families who invited me into your homes to get to know you and your beautiful families over dinner and fellowship. This is the best way to get to know all of you in a parish this size. May God continue to bless each and everyone of you at St. Cecilia parish.

I ask for your continued prayers as I begin my transition to my new assignment effective June 24th. More details to come about a Mass of Thanksgiving on June 28th at 6 pm.

In Christ,

Fr. Elias Lopez

Children’s Faith Formation programs and events are for children in pre-k 4 through grade 5. Please refer to the programs listed below or contact one of our staff for more information.

Faith Formation (CCE) for children with special needs:If you or someone you know could benefit from this program, please contact Rosemary Munoz at [email protected] or call 713-579-2640.

KIDs Club News (CCE):Parents can register children for KIDs Club, Edge and Life Teen all on the same form. With some of the new changes we thought it would be a good opportunity to rename CCE. Family registration forms are available in the church office or on the church website.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word: The next Children’s Liturgy of the Word is today, June 25th during the 9:00 a.m. Mass. There will not be Children’s Liturgy of the Word in July. We invite and welcome children ages kindergarten through grade 4 to hear the Word of God from the Children’s Lectionary. For this to be offered every Sunday, more leaders are needed.

Vacation Bible School: Many thanks to the 26 adults and 67 middle and high school youth that volunteered during Vacation Bible School this year. Each of you have made a differ-ence in the lives of the children of our parish. A big thank you to everyone that provided t-shirts, toothbrushes/paste and beach towels for our service project for the Star of Hope. Each year VBS provides these items for the children at Star of Hope who will attend sum-mer camp.

NEW THIS YEAR! We are collecting gift cards and coupons for favorite area restaurants. This is an easy way to help raise money for St. Cecilia. When you visit one of your favorite places, ask the manager if they have any coupons they would like to donate to Fall Fest. Gift cards would be a great bonus too! Have YOU heard what Cardinal DiNardo said about The Bible Timeline?

“The Bible Timeline has proven to be remarkably effective in helping Catholics uncover the meaning of Scripture, giving them an easy and enjoyable way to read and understand the Bible. As your fellow parishioners grow in their knowledge and appreciation for the written Word of God, they will undoubtedly grow in their love commitment to Jesus Christ, the Eternal Word of God.” [Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston]

Sr. Carol Mayes will be offering her time and talents at St. Cecilia this summer. Sr. Carol was trained for Spiritual Companion Ministry through the Cenacle Spiritual Direction Insti-tute and has years of experience walking with individuals in their journey.

Spiritual direction, though practiced by Chris-tians for centuries, is increasingly sought by people in today’s world who desire a deeper relationship with God and someone to be a companion with them in that

search. The tradition has consistently defined the practice of spiritual direction as an art that recognizes the Holy Spirit as the true director.

In order to request Sr. Carol contact you re-garding her availability to take on new indi-viduals to walk with, please contact Mayra Morales, Administrative Assistant to Lifelong

In preparation for the Fortnight for Freedom: Freedom for Mission, which will take place from June 21 to July 4, 2017, USCCB staff has prepared materials that you may use to celebrate the Fortnight.

The USCCB has provided a variety of resources that have been placed on the Archdiocesan website and can be accessed at the link below. These include a series of daily reflections, talking points, and suggestions for organizing prayer at a parish level. There is also a sug-gested Study Guide on Dignitas Humanae, the Second Vatican Council’s document concerning religious free-dom.

Annual Black Bag Collection July 8-9th

Giving to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul means you are right there with us as we feed the hungry, keep families in their homes, and hold their hands in prayer through stressful times.

In 2016, your gifts enabled us to provide nutritious food to over 22,000 of your neighbors, and provide $2.8 million in rent and utility assistance, keeping thousands of families in their homes with the lights on and the air conditioning run-ning! Will you prayerfully consider another generous dona-tion to the Society’s Annual Archdiocesan wide Black Bag Collection on July 8-9th?

“May our presence and care to those most in need reflect the gentleness, esteem, and dignity we see reflected in the life and work of Jesus.” - St. Vincent de Paul

We meet on the third Thursday of each month from 7:30-9 p.m. The format of our meetings changes monthly, rotating between: couples dinner, ladies dinner, and couples discussion. This month we will be hosting a couples' dinner night.

Loving Embrace is a Catholic educational support group for couples who have endured or are presently enduring the pain and suffering of infertility. The group provides support for coping with infertility and explores resources, methods, and options that are morally faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church. For rotation information contact Shannon Lassen at 832-978-6716 or [email protected].

An Invitation to Caregivers at St. Cecilia:

The Gathering Place at St. Cecilia invites families who are caring for a loved one with memory loss to a free program held monthly. The Gathering Place is a stimu-lating, loving and fun environment where volunteers offer interactive and affirming activities designed for members of the con-gregation and community who suffer with memory loss. The Gathering Place is a part-nership between St. Cecilia and Interfaith CarePartners and is one of 58 participat-

ing congregations that offer 3 1/2 hours of respite from the challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia while they enjoy games, crafts, entertainment lunch and oth-er fun activities. Caregivers may choose to use this opportunity for respite, or may opt to participate along with their care partner.

To volunteer, call Ginny Studdert at 713-339-2316. To register a loved one to at-tend this free program, please contact Tom Breaux at 713-682-5995 ext. 210.
