The Knights of Columbus are a separate 501c3 organization and are not part of and not acting on behalf of the parish or Arch/Diocese.

“We daily embrace You in Your Sacrament and receive You into our bodies;

make us worthy to experience the resurrection for which we hope.”

St. Ephrem of Syria

Are You New To Our Parish? WELCOME! We are glad you are here!

Please fill out a Registration form (found under the bulletin board in

the vestibule). Please drop it in the collection basket or bring it by the

office—we’d love to meet you in person! We ask that you periodically

make sure your information (family members / address / phone) is

correct. If you are leaving our parish, you will be missed and our pray-

ers will go with you. Before you leave, please let the church office

know.

What Should I Wear to Mass? Out of respect for our Lord and for the

benefit of parish family and visitors, we request that everyone dress

modestly and respectfully. This means that shorts, tank tops, short

mini dresses or skirts, low cut necklines, bare midriffs, and tight fit-

ting clothing is not appropriate for Mass. We ask that you wear clean,

well fitting, clothing out of respect for our Lord. Thank you!

Quiet Please! Please remember this is a house of God and a house of

prayer, and we show our love for the Real Presence by keeping quiet

before, during and after Mass. Thank you. If you must speak with

your neighbor, please whisper!

Parents, if your small child is having a difficult time remaining quiet

during Mass, we encourage you to move to the chapel so that you can

avoid the “stern looks” from other parishioners. As we truly feel that

children are a blessed part of our parish family, once they have

calmed down, we hope you rejoin the rest of the congregation! We

have placed “doodle cards” in the book racks in the pews for your

children to use during Mass. We also have a selection of books avail-

able in the vestibule for your children to read during Mass. We ask

that you return the books to the basket as you leave Mass so that

others may enjoy them too!

Are You Getting Your Monthly Newsletter? If you are not—maybe we

don’t have your address! Please take a moment to check with the

office—the newsletter is our best means of keeping you informed of

all that is happening here at St. Catherine’s! In the newsletter, you

will find a monthly event calendar, a monthly “pep-talk” from Father

Freddy, the monthly birthday & anniversary calendars, and so much

more!

Stressed Out? Need some quality quiet time? Having Another Sleep-

less Night? Come spend time in the peaceful company of Jesus! Reg-

istered parishioners are invited to stop by the office to sign up for an

entry code for the chapel. With your code, you are welcome to use

the chapel at any hour, as long as Mass is not being celebrated.

Communion to the Sick—Are you or a loved one unable to attend

Mass due to a temporary or permanent medical condition? Please

contact the parish office and let us know! We have several volun-

teers who would be happy to bring Communion to you!

Please Pray for the Members of Our Parish Currently Serving in the

Military: Jacob L. Bostwick, Jack Free, Colleen Gonzalez, Raul A. Mar-

tinez, Alejandro Ocampo, Monique Quinones, and Jon Szymanski. St.

Catherine’s would like to recognize any family member from our par-

ish who is currently serving in the military. Please contact the office

to have their name included. May God keep them safe and bring

them home soon!

Do You Have Questions or Concerns About St. Catherine’s? You are

encouraged to discuss them with the members of our Pastoral and

Finance Councils. Council members are now wearing name badges

to help you identify who they are. You are also invited to attend their

meetings. The members are:

• Pastoral Council Members (meetings on the 2nd Monday in July,

September, November, January, March, and May at 6 pm in the

St. Michael Room): Joyce Ford, JoAnn French, Sean Holmes, Katie

Napp, Al Parnell, Michael Orley, Len Rechichar, and John Reed,

• Finance Council Members (Finance Council meetings are on the

2nd Thursday every month at 6 pm in the St. Francis Room.):

Mary Anderson, Therese Baker, Candace Hall, Trish Ketchmark,

Rachel Smith, Leonard Venardos and Lance Wilson.

Smile! You are on “Catholic Camera!” Security cameras monitor our

facility for your safety and for the protection of those who work here.

The new security door for the hall requires that you be “buzzed in”

when you come to the office during office hours. We thank you in

advance for your understanding and cooperation.

only. Please do not place baby clothes in the box. We thank you for

Safe Environment Training—policy update as of July 2018

Attention ALL volunteers, and those who would like to become a volunteer, here at St. Catherine Labouré Church.

Volunteers are the heart of the ministries and events here at our parish, and we wish to say “thank you” for serving the people of

our parish! The Diocese of Phoenix requires that ALL volunteers, employees and clergy members complete mandatory Safe Envi-

ronment Training courses to volunteer or work for any Church or program associated with the Diocese of Phoenix. This process

has been in place since 2006. To accomplish this requirement, every parish has a Safe Environment Training Coordinator, and

Trainers who provide the mandatory sessions. These sessions are broken into two sections – Foundation and Renewal ses-

sions.

To better serve our parish volunteers, we are changing when sessions are offered. We will offer a Foundation class (for new vol-

unteers) once per quarter. All sessions are limited to members of St. Catherine Laboure Church. Volunteers from other parishes

must have the Safe Environment Coordinator of their parish contact us to sign them up before they can attend our sessions.

All Volunteers first complete a Safe Environment FOUNDATION class, a face-to-face interview with the leader of the group they

wish to volunteer for and provide a minimum of three references for a reference check. These three items must be completed

prior to your beginning your service as a volunteer here at St. Catherine’s.

For 2018, Foundation Class sessions will be done on Saturday beginning at 9 am and ending at 12 noon in the St. Michael

Room. The remaining date for the sessions for 2018 is November 10th. If there is no one from St. Catherine’s registered by

noon on the Wednesday before the class date, the class will be cancelled.

Due to the nature of the material presented, NO ONE under the age of 18 is allowed to be present during the class. We DO NOT

offer childcare during the classes. Classes start PROMPLTY at the scheduled start time—once the class has started, you will not

be allowed to attend the class.

• You must pre-register for these classes as class size is limited. To register, you must come into the office and pick up an

application form. At that time, your name will be added to the session list.

• Please bring a photo ID and contact information for 5 references when you come to register.

Once you have completed a Foundation session, all volunteers are required to complete ANNUAL RENEWAL sessions. Here at

St. Catherine’s, Renewal sessions must be completed between July 1st and November 30th. Renewal sessions are offered on-

line through the Diocese of Phoenix website. It is highly encouraged that you complete Renewals online as they are short – 15

to 20 minutes.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT Online Training can be accessed at http://www.safeenvironmenttraining.org/classes.php

Please note: You MUST watch the credits at the end of the session and wait for the “pop-up” that says you have completed the

class to receive credit for the online class!

For those unable to complete an online session, Renewal sessions in person are one hour. The remaining in person sessions for

2018 are October 13th at 9 am in the St. Michael Room and October 27th at 1 pm in the hall. These sessions are limited in

size, and you must pre-register by contacting the office to have your name placed on the session list. If there is no one from St.

Catherine’s registered by noon on the Wednesday before the class date, the class will be cancelled.

To read the entire Diocese of Phoenix Policy and Procedures for the Protection of Minors, please go to www.diocesephoenix.org,

and click on “Policies and Procedures.” You will find the latest revision (July 2018) available for reading or printing. A copy of

the Diocesan Policy for the Protection of Minors is also available for review in the office.
