From the Pastor… My dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus: Christ the King Today, we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King! This feast was established by Pope Pius XI in 1925 as an antidote to secularism, a way of life which leaves God out of man's thinking and living and organizes his life as if God did not exist. The feast is intended to proclaim in a striking and effective manner Christ's royalty over individuals, families, society, governments, and nations. Long live Christ the King! Commitment Cards Thank you to all parishioners who have completed and submitted your Commitment Card to the church. As a reminder, all commitments need to be submitted to the church no later than December 4 in order to be accounted for in the final Summary Report. Please complete and submit your card to the church even if you are unable to make a change to your current level of giving. For those registered parishioners not currently supporting the church with regular offertory gifts, please consider a monthly gift to support the needs of our parish. Thank you again for your generosity! Together, we are changing lives! Join the Hospitality Team We invite anyone interested in becoming a hospitality minister to one of two information sessions scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 29 OR Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7pm. Current ushers and greeters who wish to continue in this ministry are required to attend as there will be changes to current procedures. A hospitality minister will greet people as they enter the church with a smile and word of welcome, help seat people during Mass, take up the offertory collection, and help make disciples through their kindness in imitation of Christ. Please consider joining this very important ministry!

May God reward you, Fr. Dury

High School Winter Mission Trip

December 17th-19th This Advent, our high school students and adult volunteers will once again serve the mountain area of Jenkins, KY. This is a small coal-mining community whose economy has slowly collapsed as the coal mines have depleted

Why serve in Jenkins, Kentucky? Saint Mother Teresa visited Jenkins, KY twice on her visits to America and was so moved by the poverty of this community that she personally established a Missionaries of Charity convent there. Our youth group will be serving with the Missionaries of Charity and the local Catholic parish, St. George, striving to help them serve and love the poorest of the poor.

What is our Mission? We will serve the physical and spiritual needs of this community. We have the chance to provide a joyful Christmas season to those who might otherwise go unnoticed, unloved, and unfed on Christmas Day. We will have many different missions: 1. Missionaries of Charity and St. George Catholic Church Distribution

Center: As of right now, the local church and the missionaries do their charitable giving from a small home basement. They don’t have room to store larger items as they come in for donation and so they have to turn some donations down. We will continue to restore a small 3 room school house; turning it into a distribution center for the Religious Sisters.

2. Work Sites: We will work on a number of different homes preparing the homes for winter weather, doing some house cleaning and yard work for those who are physically unable.

3. Visits: We will spend time with the neglected people of this community, listening to their stories, and sharing our own stories with them at Nursing Homes and Hospitals.

4. Christmas Dinner and Toy Distribution: We will distribute fresh food for Christmas Dinner and a toy distribution for 200-300 families. We will also share our faith and joy with the community and children at this distribution.

5. Pop-Up Thrift Store: We will set up a pop up thrift store with anything and everything for the people of Jenkins to shop in and provide for their families.

How YOU can help!• Cash Donations will be used to purchase fresh fruit, veggies, and meat for the people in Jenkins. • Canned goods and dry goods to give out • Religious Articles: Any old Bibles, Prayer Books, Rosaries, etc that you may have! • New and Gently Used Toys for children of all ages • New and Gently Used ‘Winter Wear’ (Hats, gloves, scarves) • Toiletries (toilet paper, tooth brushes, toothpaste, etc.)

Saint Mother Teresa in Jenkins, KY in 1982

Donations can be dropped off at the parish office anytime before Dec. 15th marked “Jenkins Mission.”Questions? Contact Brendan O’Rourke at 614-231-4509, ext. 314 or [email protected].
