SPIRITUALITY The Guadalupe Celebration: The Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the Knights of Columbus are honored to present an international celebration in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It will feature dynamic speakers, engaging performers, and powerful prayer, providing an opportunity for the faithful of the greater Los Angeles area to come together and present a powerful witness of their Marian Devotion and Catholic faith to their communities. The celebration will take place on Sunday, August 5th, 2012 @ 3:00 pm, free admission and open to the public. Tickets may be obtained from the church office or the Guadalupanos Ministry. Bus transportation will be available for $5, leaving from St. Brigid at 1:30pm. If you are going to the celebration, you need to sign-up so we can order your free ticket(s), and transportation should you need it. ANNUAL UNITY SERVICE with Lewis Metropolitan Church has been re-scheduled. DATE & DETAILS coming soon. SUNDAY CATHOLIC TV MASS: Heart of the Nation, in partnership with local parishes, has been serving homebound Catholics with the Sunday TV Mass since 1984. Did you know? What’s Your Plan in the Event of an Emergency? Did you know that every Catholic school in the Los Angeles Archdiocese is required to have a written plan for emergency procedures? The plan must include provisions for fire, earthquake, disaster and evacuation drills and lockdown procedures that conform to local, state and county requirements. Each school’s plan must be updated annually, and made available to parents. Does your own family have a similar plan for what to do and where to gather in the event of an emergency? City and County disaster preparedness agencies are a good resource to use for making your own emergency plan.

"Stewardship as a way of life" Maintaining the Temple

There was a man who decided to quit going to church because he wasn't getting anything out of it. He told his friend, "I've been going to church for years, but I don't remember the topic of a single sermon." His friend replied, "I've been married for 30 years and my wife has made me supper most every night. I don't remember a single meal she made me, but I know if I hadn't eaten them, I wouldn't be alive today."

If we consider our body to be a temple, there is some necessary maintenance. The physical temple requires nutrition, exercise, grooming and rest. What are you doing for the spiritual needs of the temple? Going to church is the physical act, but are you feeding and fulfilling your spiritual needs? Are you fully engaged in the prayers, the music and the message of the Mass or are you just going through the physical motions for about an hour?

As stewards, we are not called to live life as consumers, taking up space, using God's gifts for our own physical needs. We are called to live as disciples. Living as disciples, we must have "discipline" to maintain the physical and spiritual temple that God has uniquely created in each of us. Let us be challenged to a discipline for "Temple Maintenance" that will fulfill our physical and our spiritual bodies. Every day DO six things:

• Something good for others

• Something good for yourself

• Something you don't want to do, but needs to be done

• Physical exercise

• Mental exercise (reading, writing, puzzles)

• Say an original prayer by naming your blessings It is our challenge and responsibility to allow God to use us and for us to use His gifts according to His Plan and Purpose. He needs our physical presence to do His work and He needs our spiritual presence to fulfill our relationship with Him.

Our body is a temple; our soul is the temple of God.
