St Bonaventure Ministries Summary

KEEP CONNECTED

Adult Trips & Adventures (LEADERSHIP VACANCY): Are you looking for opportunities to socialize with our parish community? Would you like to get out and have some fun without having to plan or drive? Our ministry does all the planning for you. You need only to join in the fun. Regular day trips to places like the de Young Museum in San Francisco, casinos, and baseball games are scheduled throughout the year. Each spring is the annual weekend Snow Train trip to Reno. Join in for one or all of the trips. You will find the schedule published in the weekly parish bulletin. This ministry is currently suspended until new leadership is identified.

Camping Trip: Every August parishioners hit the road for a week-long camping trip to Tahoe. Watch for dates and sign-up information in the bulletin.

Childcare Ministry: Participation in parish life can be challenging for parents with young children. For many events, the parish offers childcare. If you love children and would be interested in child-sitting for a couple of hours on an irregular basis, this is the ministry for you. All volunteers receive Safe Environment training and must be fingerprinted before serving.

Classy Crafters: We share our time and talents on Wednesdays (10:00am-2:00pm) throughout the year to create items for our annual boutique. Proceeds from this event are donated to our Food Pantry. In addition, members of this ministry feel truly blessed with the opportunity to share spiritual, emotional and personal fellowship with one another.

Condolence Ministry: If you enjoy the experience of offering sympathy to those who have experienced a loss of a loved one, this ministry is for you. This ministry also sends out letters to families, inviting them to participate in the annual parish Mass of Remembrance on All Soul’s Day.

CYO Basketball: Open for boys and girls 2nd through 8th grades. Sign-ups start the last week in August with player evaluations held the first week of September. Pre-season games start mid to late September with league play starting the first week in November. All children are guaranteed to play, with an emphasis being placed on instruction. Anyone interested in coaching and officiating is encouraged to apply. Key activities: attending practices and playing in scheduled games. Frequency of connecting: Practice is 2-3 days a week on the average. League games are held on either a Saturday or Sunday, once per week. Teams can also participate in four additional tournaments during the season. League play ends mid to late February, concluding with the possibility of league playoffs.

Competitions once a week starting from mid-March at various fields, with possibility of regional and/or diocesan meets in May.

Donut Sunday: St. Bonaventure Parish is known for its welcoming heart. One regular experience of this welcoming is our monthly Hospitality Weekend. If you enjoy welcoming and meeting new people, if you want to extend the spirit of welcome within our parish, your heart and hands are invited to join the Hospitality Committee. Key activities: Pick up hospitality foods and/or set up Hospitality for Sunday Mass. Frequency of connecting: one Sunday Mass per month, typically the first Sunday of the month.

Families in Faith: Families in Faith offers opportunities for parents to come together for enrichment programs on a monthly basis. We also develop opportunities for families to come together in special ways. This includes our annual Halloween event, Trunk or Treat, movie nights and ice cream socials.

Healing the Heart (Grief) Ministry: For those who have experienced the death of a loved one, we offer you spiritual and emotional support in a group setting. These groups are facilitated by peer ministers who have experienced a loss themselves. Frequency of connecting: Our sessions are scheduled twice a year; spring and fall. Each session is 6 weeks. Watch the bulletin for dates and meeting opportunities. Workshops provide a safe place to express grief and begin healing after the loss of a loved one. Our grief companions have also lost someone who is dear to them and know the value of having someone listen with their heart. They recognize that each person’s grief is unique. The death of a loved one is unlike any other loss. Whether the death was sudden and tragic, or one with warning and preparation, the reality of death leaves most of us shocked, confused and sad. These feelings may linger for years. The grief workshop is a six-week program characterized by trust in prayer, open sharing and spirituality. It is a Christ-centered program, but you do not have to be a member of St. Bonaventure’s parish or a Catholic to attend. It is open to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. The loss may have been a recent one or a long time ago.

Information MinistryWe are front and center at Sunday Masses ready and wanting to answer questions of new and established parishioners. Currently, we are serving one Sunday a month, on the same Sunday as Hospitality weekend. Volunteers serve at Mass on the weekend. You don’t need to know everything. We provide the resources You just need to bring a smile, a warm heart and a welcoming attitude.
