What do we mean by Level 2?• A GCSE, or equivalent, qualification at grade
C or above is considered a Level 2 qualification
• Students are considered to have achieved Level 2 if they have gained the equivalent of at least 5 grade Cs at GCSE
• Students that have gained at least 5 GCSE passes are considered to have achieved
Level 1

What do we mean by Level 3?
• AS and A levels are Level 3 qualifications
• Applied AS and A2 levels are Level 3 qualifications
• Vocational Level 3 courses lead to Level 3 qualifications

Post 16 PathwaysFor those students entering the Sixth Form with
mostly A*/A and B grades at GCSE the usual pathway would be to study
4 AS levels in year 12
Followed by at least
3 A2 levels in year 13
(Possibly including one Vocational Level 3 qualification)

Post 16 PathwaysFor those students entering the Sixth Form with
Level 2 achievement (5+ A*-C at GCSE) mostly at grade C the usual pathway would be to study
Three Level 3 Vocational subjects
(Possibly one vocational subject may be replaced by an AS/A2 course if GCSE grade in that subject indicates
that it is suitable)

Post 16 PathwaysFor those students without Level 2 achievement (Fewer than 5 A*-C grades at GCSE) the usual
pathway is to study a
Level 2 foundation year
Either as a one year course or as preparation for Level 3 study in Years 13 and 14
(including new areas of study as well as appropriate core resits/improvement)
