    Province of IndianapolisExtension of Dispensation

19 October 2020While commending our pastors and pastoral life

coordinators who have gone to great lengths to assure safe worship spaces in our churches, given the continued increase of Covid-19 cases in our state, the Indiana bishops hereby extend the dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of obligation beyond 1 November 2020 until further notice. The Indiana bishops will continue to monitor the situation to determine when it might be advisable to modify or lift the dispensation.

In addition to the statement, the Archbishop asked that the following be communicated:

Both clergy and laity must make every effort to maintain the availability of open churches and public liturgies by following public health guidelines and employing various safety protocols, including:

    • The wearing of face coverings;• Social distancing;• Enhanced cleaning measures

Further guidelines, due to local situations, may be necessary in a particular parish.

Honoring our Deceased Loved Ones throughout November

Throughout the month of November, we honor and remember our loved ones who have died. You are invited to write the names of deceased loved ones in our parish Book of Remembrance, which you will find near the ofrenda in the front of church. The ofrenda is a Latin tradition which honors our loved ones who have died. We invite you to participate in the ofrenda by adding a picture or memento of your deceased family members or friends. You can pick up photo frame for the ofrenda on the tables by the doors of church. There are four elements of life found on the ofrenda – water, earth, wind and fire. You’ll see these reflected in our St. Ben’s ofrenda. You might consider making one in your home!

For further information please contact our middle school catechist, Veronica Rogers ([email protected] 812-243-6837.
