ReflectionIn this Sunday’s Gospel, ten lepers are healed, but only one goes back to thank Jesus. We don’t have to do anything to be worthy of God’s never-ending love and care. God gives it to us freely, whether we ask for it or not. It is our job to!notice God’s love and to respond with thanksgiving. A few years ago, I was giving a talk at a high school about teasing and bullying. A young girl came up to me after my talk and told me that she had been bullied to the point where she didn’t even want to live anymore, but then she realized that God loved her even when it felt like no one else did. Instead of focusing on the misery of her situation, she focused her attention on God and the blessings that he had given her. Like the leper in the reading, she was saved by her faith. What challenges are you facing in your life right now? How can you focus on God and let your faith save you?

Action  In this Sunday’s Gospel, we hear that the one leper who comes back to thank Jesus is a Samaritan — an outsider. Sometimes, we forget to show God’s love to those who don’t seem to "t in. This week, identify one way in which you can show God’s love to someone who is on the outside of your community. Perhaps you can invite a student at school who just doesn’t seem to "t in to join you and your friends for lunch. Or, you can connect with your parish to see if there is an opportunity coming up for you to serve the homeless, who are often ignored by others, at a soup kitchen or by making sack lunches. Pick one thing to do, and then do it! Talk with a friend about how it felt to break your usual boundaries and extend God’s healing love to someone whom you might usually ignore.(Contributed by John Braham, Campus Minister, Opelousas Catholic High School, Opelousas LA.)

Journaling  Questions !Who are the lepers and outcasts in our world today, both from a local and

global perspective? How might they be healed by faith?

"How has your faith healed you? How has that experience helped you to recognize our call as Christians to offer healing to others?

A Word on Internet Safety

Students  in  grades  3-‐8  will  have  presentations  in  the  coming  weeks  on  Internet  safety  during  their  computer  classes.  With  rapidly  changing  technology,  it  is  often  difficult  to  adequately  supervise  children,  who  are  very  knowledgeable  when  it  comes  to  technology  and  often  know  more  than  their  parents.    Some  apps  and  sites  to  watch  out  for:

Instagram  –  a  picture-‐sharing  app  that  now  provides  video  sharing  as  well.    Children  have  access  to  publicly  shared  video,  often  with  inappropriate  content:    http://www.bewebsmart.com/social-‐media/instagram-‐now-‐with-‐video/

Snapchat  –  an  app  used  to  send  photos  and  videos  to  friends.    Thephoto  or  video  “self-‐destructs”  seconds  after  being  viewed.    Children  can  be  tricked  into  thinking  they  can  send  embarrassing  or  inappropriate  pictures/videos  without  any  consequences.    Read  more  here:    http://www.bewebsmart.com/internet-‐safety/is-‐snapchat-‐okay-‐for-‐kids/

KIK  –  an  app  rated  17+,  provides  fast  messaging  complete  with  video  sharing,  photo  editing  and  more.          …  Read  more  here:    http://www.bewebsmart.com/internet-‐safety/is-‐kik-‐okay-‐for-‐kids/

Vine  –  a  video  creation  app  where  the  6-‐second  videos  run  in  a  continuous  loop.    Many  videos  include  inappropriate  content.

Omegle  –  a  site  that  allows  users  to  video  chat  with  a  random  stranger,  read  more  here:    http://www.bewebsmart.com/internet-‐safety/what-‐is-‐omegle-‐is-‐it-‐okay-‐for-‐kids/

Free  parental  control  is  available  on  the  web  at  http://www.keepmyfamilysecure.com/  and  http://www1.k9webprotection.com/.      To  learn  more  about  parental  controls  on  iPhone/iPad,  etc.,  visit  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4213.    Please  help  us  keep  your  children  safe!
