Conqu_sts [n^ Confli]ts (M[rk 3:20-35) Ever since the fall of Adam and Eve, Satan had been the “ruler of this world” (Jn 12: 31). The law of sin, injustice, and selfishness had governed human affairs, even though the presence and promise of God kept love alive. With the arrival of Christ, we are faced with someone who repeatedly outmatches Satan: he casts out demons effortlessly, repairs physical evil (leprosy, paralysis, and even death) with a mere word or touch, and, above all, he forgives sin, freeing souls from the most dire of Satan’s entrapments. Christ performed these deeds in the open air, for all to see.

The “scribes who had come down from Jerusalem,” representatives of the Sanhedrin (Israel’s governing body) sent to ascertain the le-gitimacy of this Galilean preacher’s dubious (in their minds) doc-trine, had to offer some kind of explanation for these phenomena. They could not, however, explain Jesus’ special powers as coming from God, since that would require them to accept his teaching as well. But his teaching contradicted much of their own, and so to accept it would be to relinquish their status and influence. So they attributed his works to a pact made with the devil.

Jesus calmly but clearly points out the absurdity of their claim: ob-viously, his consistent reversal of the devil’s conquests shows that he is not only at odds with the ancient enemy, but also more power-ful than him. After witnessing the words and actions of the Lord, the only way to deny that “the ruler of this world [Satan] has been condemned” (Jn 16: 11) is to deliberately blind oneself to the facts a good strategy, if you prefer the illusory advantages you get from relishing the devil’s false promises.

Jesus tells us: “Whoever does the will of God is my brother, and sister, and mother.” Seeking, embracing, and fulfilling God’s will in our lives leads us into intimate knowledge and familiar inter-course with God something he yearns for. Do you wish to know God, to be close to him? God’s will is the foolproof formula for supernatural success. Read more at: rcsdirection.com

It’s hard for me to understand why you yearn for my friendship,

why you want me to be as close as your brother and sister and

mother. But you do. I want that too, Lord. Only you can fill my

heart and my mind with the fullness of life that I long for so aching-

ly. And I know that the way to intimacy with you is to fulfill your

will each moment, out of love. Teach me to do your will . . . Jesus,

teach my heart to love as you love. Open my eyes to see my neigh-

bors as you see them, and make serving others the default setting

of my will. With the zeal of your heart, set my heart on fire . . .

“And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.” MARK 3:25 Do our parish ministries com-plement each other or do they compete against each other? Is our parish “one Body of Christ” or a bunch of little, separate minis-tries controlled by human ego? The goal of all parish ministries is to bring people to Christ. All of our parish work should be for the glory of God’s name, not our own name.

The Holy Rosary will be prayed prior to the 5:00 Mass on Satur-day, June 16th. Lead by the Knights of Columbus, all are wel-come to join in prayer.

Dear Parishioners,

I want to make you aware of a few things.

We will be having another set of listening sessions on July 1st. The first will be after the 8:30 Mass in Deerwood and the second will be after the 10:30 mass in Crosby. This will be an opportunity for those who have questions about the changing cluster to voice their concerns. We have tried to keep you informed, but sometimes it maybe helpful to talk in person.

The first weekend of the new Mass schedule will be July 14th

15th. We will be setting out chairs for those Masses in Crosby. It will be a bit of a learning curve to see how many are needed and where everyone lands. Remember this is a temporary solution so it won’t be perfect or ideal, but for now we must find a way to make it work. After both Masses that weekend we will be doing an icecream social in the yard just outside the Church. Hopefully this will be a chance to spend sometime together and process together our new situation.

I very much want to thank you all for your prayers and for how well you have been coming together. I know it isn’t an easy process we are going through, and I am very appre-ciative for how open you have been throughout this process to taking the next steps.

I will be gone to Belize with our mission trip the 13th21st.

Fr. George and Fr. Walsh will be covering the weekend Mass while I am away.

In other news, we will be hosting a seminarian this sum-mer. Matt Miller has been studying in Rome for two years and will be assigned to our parish cluster this summer for a 68 week pastoral experience assignment. Matt will live with me at the rectory for this time. He will probably be joining us at the end of June. I am hopeful that he will re-ceive a warm welcome. You will have the chance to meet him and learn about his pursuit of his vocation. If he con-tinues in the formation process Matt will be ordained a dea-con probably in October of 2019 and a priest in the summer of 2020. Please pray for Matt and all our seminarians. I remember how wonderful it was during my time in semi-nary to know that so many people were praying and sup-porting me.

May God watch over us,

Eucharistic Adoration Our chapel, located in the St. Joseph School, is open Mondays at 7am through Thursday. All are welcome to make visits at anytime. Call Collette 5462781 or the parish office if desiring a weekly hour of your own. ⁜ At this time we have a need for some-one to take the 1011AM Thursday hour.

Support Vocations All are welcome to join us for a Bishop Baraga Deanery Apostolate gathering at Immaculate Heart in Crosslake, Wednesday, June 13. Beginning with Mass at 5:00 PM with Fr. Ryan Moravitz (Vocations Director for the Diocese of Duluth). The Bishop Baraga Apostolate is a new initiative of the Brainerd Deanery which seeks to support vocations within our Deanery by praying for vocations daily, learning more about how we can invite others to a vocation, and helps to support our priests in concrete ways.

Following Mass, we will gather for a potluck in the social hall. Meat will be provided, but please bring a salad or dessert to share. This is a great opportunity to invite others to come and learn about the Apostolate in the spirit of fellowship and is open to everyone! We hope this to be an annual event where members of the Apostolate, and others that would like to learn about it, will gather together in prayer.

F@ITH COMMUNITY

Habitat for Humanity Seven homes this summer...two are in the Deerwood/Crosby area! This is the year to get involved. Every-one is welcome to help build a home. No experience needed, on site training provided. We also need salvage and pickup teams. Call 2188288517 with your interest.

Save the Date The Annual Diocesan Assembly will be held Sat-urday, October 13, at Marshall School in Duluth. Registration will open soon at www.dioceseduluth.org.

Crosby CCW Meeting All women are welcome to join us for our monthly meeting on Monday, June 11, 10 AM in the SJ School.

Advertise on the Bulletin! During this week of June 11th, John Kirchner, our parish representative from Liturgical Publi-cations, Inc., will be working on our bulletin and contacting potential advertisers for the back page (The Preferred Business Directory). Please consider advertising on the bulletin since the revenue from the ads is what makes the bulletin possible at no cost to St. Joseph. It’s also a great way to get your name in front of the families in the parish!

We need and appreciate your help! If you are interested, please call John Kirchner at the parish office this week or feel free to email him anytime at [email protected].

St. Francis Catholic School has an opening for a part time as-sistant Band Director. This person would assist our current Band Director, work directly with students in lessons, organize and as-sist as needed for concerts and practices. Music experience pre-ferred. Please send resume to deb.euteneuer@sfschool.org or mail to Deb Euteneuer, 817 Juniper Street, Brainerd, MN 56401

St. Vincent de Paul Is there a neighbor or friend who is in tem-porary need because of a loss of a job or illness? Please give them the St. Vincent de Paul Helpline: 2185343182. We want to help! The local conference for SVdP meets every 2nd & 4th Thursday, in the St. Joseph Deerwood Rectory. All are welcome!

Members of St. Mary Court 854 Mark your calendars for Tues-day, June 26th, 11:30am. We will meet at Croft Pub & Grub in Crosby to celebrate our birthday. They are Off! After months of planning & preparing, our mission team will leave for Belize the morning of June 13! Together our parishes have supported this mission with our time, talents, and donations. As our team travels and ministers Christ’s love to the community of Benque Viejo del Carmen, let us continue our support with our prayers.

Dear Father,We pray your help and blessings on the members of this mis-sion trip. Thank you that each person is taking time out of their busy lives to serve You by serving others. Thank you that You have spoken to their hearts and that they are willing to venture outside of their homes, neighborhoods and comfort zones. Keep them strong mentally, physically and spiritually. Give them safe travels, energy and enthusiasm and an ability to be flexible when plans change.

May their arrival at their destination be a sign of Your love to those they serve. May they be true ambassadors for Christ through their actions both on and off the job, both with those they serve and with their fellow team members.

We pray that this trip will be successful in strengthening the faith of every team member. Increase their trust in You as they leave their responsibilities and worries about their fami-lies and lives back home in Your watchful care. As they see and experience different ways of life, give them new perspec-tive on their lives and about the things that matter most. Give them the joy of service. Strengthen their faith and reliance on You. May each team member strongly feel Your Holy Spirit at work in them and through them.

And so Father we ask that you bless this mission project; Fr. Eli & team members, those they serve and their families back home. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to actively work in Your wonderful Kingdom. Amen.
