Friendship Group Guest Speaker:
Please note venue this time will be the School hall. You can park in Chiniquay St or Stephen St for easier access. Celeste Sutton will be guest speaker at this week’s Friendship Group meeting on Tuesday, March 15th at 10am. She
will be speaking on the financial aspect of aged care - If you are considering aged care for someone close to you, there are five questions you need answered to ensure the best care at the most reasonable cost. It’s a fact of life that many of us will one day face the daunting task of seeking aged care for someone close to us. At first the complexity of dealing with the personal, practical and financial issues may seem overwhelming, but there are positive ways to address these issues and there is help available to navigate through them. As a specialist in the field of aged care advice, Celeste Sutton has helped many people work through the aged care maze. The five key questions on aged care - Question 1 – what are the aged care options? Question 2 – what costs are involved? Question 3 – What will happen to the family home? Question 4 – what are the impacts on the age pension? Question 5 – how can ongoing income be maximised? Celeste is a Senior Financial Adviser and has worked in the financial services industry since 2001. She joined RI Advice as in Feb 2008. Celeste Sutton is an Authorised Representative of RI Advice Group Pty Limited (ABN 23 001 774 125, AFSL 238429). Social Justice Thought for the Week: Photo: Dinklage, Germany, early 2000's, Police raid a Benedictine monastery
arresting a family of Ukrainian asylum seekers in order to deport them. Nuns, who had been providing the family with sanctuary for months, blocked the road both ways, refusing to move. After several hours of stand-off the family were allowed to remain at the monastery until they could find a guarantor. The family were later granted asylum in Canada. Here in Australia, two orders (Sisters of St Joseph and Brigidine Sisters) have offered Sanctuary to the 267 men, women and children who face deportation to Nauru or Manus Island. They are joined by scores of churches all over the country in an unprecedented movement of defiance. If the time comes, will you join them by 'getting in the way to let them stay'?
This Palm Sunday events will be happening Nationwide to call for an end to the Australian government's mandatory detention and offshore processing regime.
Palm Sunday Walk for Asylum Seekers and Refugees
On Sunday the 20th of March, thousands of people all over Australia will take to the streets to show their support for a just and humane welcome of people seeking asylum in Australia. A Palm Sunday Walk for Asylum Seekers and Refugees will take place in Toowoomba starting at St Patrick’s Cathedral Carpark at 11.30 am, Sunday 20th March. The event will conclude at the new Civic Square behind the new Toowoomba City Library on Herries Street. All are welcome to join us as we demonstrate an alternative to a culture of indifference and create a sign of hope and solidarity. For more information phone 46130895 or email [email protected]
Dear Parents, One of the first things you lose when you step outside of God’s WILL is your peace. So if you don’t have peace about something, do not proceed! God’s promise is, “You will be led forth in peace.” Many times peace is all God will give you to let you know whether you’re on the right track or not, so don’t violate the ‘peace rule’. Jesus said, ‘...My peace I give to you, not as the world gives…” The world offers a feeling of peace that operates only when everything's going well. But when the opinions you’re getting
seem to be confusing and contradictory, when it feels like nothing is going right for you and yet you’re able to remain calm, you are experiencing the peace of God, which transcends all understanding. To receive this peace, we must humble ourselves under the mighty power of God and then God can lift you up in honour. Give all your worries and cares to God, for God cares about you. Remember, everyone else is searching for the same kind of peace...most people simply don’t know how or where to find it. Well, you now do… So be at peace, don’t rush ahead of God, be confident knowing that God cares about what happens to you! Board meeting: Monday 14th March 7pm School Library for technology purposes. All Board members are asked to avail themselves for this meeting. A gentle reminder that the next P&F meeting is scheduled for the 15th of March, that’s next Tuesday evening at 7pm in the Library. This is a very important meeting in that we start to formulate a plan around what sort of fundraising events we might have this year and to get people together to discuss where the money might be channelled. Parents need to know what their fundraising is for. It keeps us all focused and gives us a purpose to give of our time and money. We note that children have already begun to wear winter school clothing. This is up to the prerogative of the parents at this point, as the official start date for winter uniform isn’t until well into Term 2. Please ensure your child’s clothing is clearly marked. We have a collection of winter clothes that really is obscenely large and we have no way of returning these items because none of these items are named. Vinnies is doing well out of us! Peace Paul
News from the APRE On Thursday 24th March, the school will stop and reflect on the Passion of the Christ through a series of Easter Plays concluding with the crucifixion of Jesus. Each class has been assigned a particular area of the play and we welcome and encourage all of our family and friend s to attend. A

Children’s Liturgy
Here at St Anthony’s, we offer a Children’s Liturgy Program for children from 3 years to those children
preparing for the Sacraments. The program is offered on Sunday mornings during our 8.30am Mass.
The children are called just as Mass begins and are taken by the Leader and helper to our Community
Centre. They are involved with the scripture readings of the day, but from the Children’s Bible, at a level
that they can understand. They will often colour a picture that connects with the readings or create a craft
item that also relates.
The Leaders and helpers are experienced parents, some may also be teachers, who like to involve the
children in the Gospel stories.
Leaders who do not have children attending sessions all
have Blue Cards to adhere to the Child Safety Laws.
Teachers hold an Exemption Card.
Parents are welcome to stay with their children for the
sessions, if you feel that your child may not settle on
their own.
Parents are also encouraged to become involved in the
sessions.
The Children’s Liturgy sessions are always in school
term time of 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Sundays of the month.
Please feel free to join us on a Sunday as we celebrate
God’s word as St Anthony’s Community. For more
information please contact our Parish Office when you
drop off or pick up your child from School or phone us
on 4636 1737.

Lenten Carbon Fast Calendar 2016 tip for the day – Reflect before you buy today: Do I really need this?
5th
Sunday of Lent - WEEK 5 Cambodia:
Sreymom, now 26, lives in the remote Mondulkiri province of Northeast Cambodia, where extreme poverty has led to many health issues for the region’s indigenous population.
When she started work at the local Health Centre, Sreymom was eager to use her three years of midwife training to help care for indigenous mothers and children in the surrounding villages. But soon she realised she lacked the
practical experience she needed to safely assist in childbirth. “When I had to assist a delivery,” Sreymom recalls, “my body and knees were trembling. I was sweating and losing confidence.”
Seeing Sreymom’s difficulties – and her true potential – a local healthcare worker helped Sreymom to enrol in the Mondulkiri Community Health Program. Established by Caritas Cambodia and supported by Caritas Australia, the program empowers and trains local health centre staff in pre- and post-natal care, safe delivery practices and children’s health.
The course not only improved Sreymom’s skills as a midwife, but also gave her information on broader health issues, which she could take back to the indigenous women in her community.
These days, Sreymom delivers one or two babies each month and is trusted by the indigenous community. “If we did not have the program, more pregnant women would face death,” Sreymom says. “I hope Australian people will support my communities more in building awareness in healthcare, hygiene, nutrition and sanitation.”
Please donate to Project Compassion 2016 and help healthcare workers in
isolated areas of Cambodia gain vital training to improve the health and wellbeing of the region’s indigenous women and children.
