Parish Mission Statement We, the parish family of St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church welcome all, young and old, active or inactive, committed
or alienated, to enrich their lives by joining and participating in our faith community. We seek to reflect the light of Jesus
Christ by reaching out to serve all, and by sharing our joy and hope, as we continue our faith journey. May our lives,
inspired by the Holy Spirit, and nourished by the Eucharist, bear witness to our love for neighbors near and far.

Dear Parishioners,
The celebration of the Twenty Third Sunday of the year
this week-end is surrounded by two feasts of the Blessed Mother.
On Friday the Church celebrated the feast of the Nativity of the
Blessed Virgin. In the readings for the Mass on that day we prayed:
Let us rejoice in Mary's birth, the mother of Jesus. She was
predestined to give birth by the strength of the Lord. This fifth
century feast marks the anniversary of the dedication of a basilica
in Jerusalem built, according to tradition, on the location of the
home of St. Anne, the mother of Mary.
Then, on Tuesday, the Church celebrates the feast of the
Most Holy Name of Mary. In His compassion, the Lord has given us new life in Christ and God the Father is glorified by the exalted
role in salvation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Thus, her name is a
name of honor, a holy name, a maternal name and a name
responsive to the needs of the Church.
Thursday is the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
This feast celebrates a double anniversary. In Jerusalem the
Emperor Constantine erected a round church, the Anastasis, above
the empty grave of Jesus, and a basilica, the Martyrium. In the
square between the two churches, there was a shrine, the
Calvarium, marking the place of the crucifixion. Dedicated in the
year 335, they were destroyed by the Persians in 614. The two
churches were rebuilt by Patriarch Modestus of Jerusalem in 626,
but were later destroyed by the Muslims in 1009. The present
church of the Holy Sepulcher, rebuilt by the Crusaders, was
dedicated in 1149. Today also commemorates the discovery of the
Lord's cross by the empress St. Helena in 320. Before the changes
in the liturgy following the Vatican Council, the Wednesday, Friday
and Saturday following the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross
were called Ember Days, a time to give thanks to God for the first
fruits of the Harvest.
Sincerely,
Fr John R. Mulvehill

Meets the 3rd Saturday of the Month
At St. Ann's by the Sea, Marshfield We meet the 3rd Saturday of every month at 10 a.m. in the side
Chapel. We pray the Rosary. Then we have a speaker for about 20-
30 minutes followed up with coffee and donuts. All for the
intentions of those addicted and their families. As an addict who
was healed by God's grace will tell you that both suffer equally.
The family is often more affected.
