Dear Parishioners, This year our Easter letter is very different, set in the

reality of the deadly invasion of the COVID-19 virus (COrona VIrus Disease 2019) which forces us into social isolation.

Although we cannot meet in person to commemorate the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ or his glorious resur-rection on Easter Sunday, we can still pray together! Cardi-nal Sean O'Malley invited all the priests and pastors of the Archdiocese of Boston to privately celebrate these sacred liturgies and share them with the parishioners online (Our address in Facebook: St. Anthony's Parish Everett MA). Or follow the liturgical functions of our Pope Francis made available by the Vatican.

In these days of social isolation, we have had the op-portunity for introspection. We are thinking about you –the parishioners- and you have been in our thoughts while pray-ing - humble prayers that we can offer each other. The Church without you is sad, lifeless, cold –without human warmth-, the joy of your hearts is missing, when we gather under the gaze of OUR Father who loves us and forgives us.

Some say that COVID-19 is a punishment from God. It is not so, it cannot be. God is never pleased with the pain of his children, but it is merely a human situation where we are asked to respond with the highest levels of humanity and responsibility. It is an opportunity to grow in all senses, both scientific, human, and even Christian. It is the time to value our families, to recover a lot of time that we have lost while the longing for material things and for power.

Others say that COVID-19 was created by man, in the laboratory by manipulating viral genes in a test tube. It is not so either. The NEW coronavirus COVID-19 (Sars-CoV-2) is the result of the natural evolution of other virus-es of the same 'family' (i.e. not made by man), according to studies done by virologists. ("By comparing the genetic data currently available for different types of coronavirus, we can resolutely determine that Sars-CoV-2 originated through natural processes" - says Kristian Andersen, of the Scripps Research Institute of La Jolla, California, who con-ducted the work.

Dear friends, we know that it is not easy to be con-fined up in our homes, but we can use this moment as a gift, as an opportunity. Very few times the world needs our help. Today more than ever, it needs your collaboration and ours, because praying for those who work for the solution of this problem and obeying together the recommendations based on science, will be the only way to win this battle in this long war with the virus.

“Por quê buscais entre os mortos Aquele que está vive?” (Lc 24,5) FELIZ PÁSCOA DA RESSURREIÇÃO! São os votos dos sacerdotes da Paróquia Santo Antônio- Everett-MA, no meio da pandemia que agita o mundo. Que Cristo, nossa esperança e garantia da vitória sobre todos os males nos ajude renovar nossa vida familiar, comunitária e pessoal. O fato que Cristo venceu a morte com sua própria força seja a motivação para renovar nossa, vivendo com maturidade a fé cristã e sendo solidários com o próximo. Que durante nossas vidas possamos ouvir o eco das palavras do Mestre: “Eis que estou convosco todos os dias, até o fim do mundo” (Mt 28,20)

Estimados hermanos/as, Una vez más les deseo la paz y el amor de Dios reine en sus corazo-

nes. Estamos celebrando una Semana Santa completamente diferente a las que por tantos años habíamos celebrado. Los templos cerrados sin su pueblo, sin sus sacerdotes, las escuelas sin sus niños, los parques sin sus deportistas, las oficinas y mercados sin sus trabajadores, el payaso sin su fiesta, los velorios sin sus dolientes, porque todos esta-mos escondidos para protegernos y proteger las familias del Covit-19. En estos días santos de oración, de soledad, de recogimiento, de abandono y de miedo, nos preguntamos a menudo que nos estará pi-diendo Dios, el universo, la naturaleza. Vemos que esta pandemia no tiene ningún tipo de preferencia. Donde los pobres, los ricos, los san-tos y los pecadores son infectados sin ninguna distinción y preferen-cia.

Vemos a nuestro alrededor tantas personas y familias afectadas por el Covit-19. Como hijos de un mismo Dios no es fácil ver y sentir el dolor del hermano/a, de quien pierde a un ser querido. Por eso esta-mos llamados a permanecer firmes en la fe, a no dejar que nuestros sueños se derrumben frente a la muerte, al miedo y la desolación. Esta Semana Santa estamos llamados a ver la cruz como signo de salva-ción, como signo de esperanza en medio de tanta desesperanza y preo-cupación. San Pablo nos dice: “La predicación de la cruz no deja de ser locura para los que se pierden. Pero para los que somos salvados es poder de Dios” (1Cor 1,18). Es para nosotros un símbolo del sufri-miento, donde está representada nuestra pobre humanidad, pero tam-bién es un símbolo, de amor de entrega y de salvación. Esperamos que después de la tempestad, del dolor, de la muerte venga la vida, la resu-rrección.

Para eso estamos invitados hacer de estos días santos, momentos de mucha oración, sea personal como en familia. Invitados a orar por el mundo, por el personal médico y por todo el personal de la salud. Por autoridades civiles y eclesiásticas, por los enfermos del Covit-19. Por las familias que han perdido a sus seres queridos. A quienes se sienten solos y abandonados para que Jesús quien vivió, sufrió y murió por nosotros, nos sane, nos acompañe para que un día podamos cantar y proclamar su poder y su gloria en medio de nosotros.

Quisiera invitarles a que recen esta oración en sus momentos de intimidad con Jesús. Dios Omnipotente, cuya Providencia todo lo ve y lo gobierna. Dígnate visitar nuestras casas, manda tus santos Án-geles que cuiden a todos los que habitamos en ella. Aleja de noso-tros las asechanzas del demonio, los horrores de la guerra, las an-gustias del hambre, los contagios de las pestes, el estruendo de los rayos, el ímpetu de los huracanes. Riega en su oportunidad nuestros campos con la lluvia fructificadora, que el granizo no marchite nuestros frutos. Dame licencia Dios mío, para vivir en Paz, con mi familia, con mis vecinos y con mi propia conciencia. Amen.

Feliz semana Santa mis queridos hermanos y hermanas. Que el amor de Jesús nos acompañe en estos días, para que con alegría poda-mos celebrar y profesar que Jesús ha vencido la muerte. Les quiero mucho!
