MAY IS THE MONTH OF MARY
Since the 13th century, the Church has been dedicating the month of May to Mary, mother of God. May 13th is also dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima who is very present in the life of the Christian faithful throughout the world. The Blessed Virgin Mary is the mother of the Church and therefore the example, as well as the guide and inspiration, of every one who, in and through the Church, seeks to be the servant of God and man and the obedient agent of the Holy Spirit. So it is a special time for us to recall our devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, as we pray the rosary daily, which also emphasizes Our Lady participation in the Paschal mystery and in the Pentecost with which the Church begins. We remind everyone that every day our parishioners are praying the rosary at 7:00 a.m., before our daily Mass. You are welcome.
THE VINE AND THE BRANCHES Today’s Gospel uses the imagery of the vine and the branches to stress the importance of remaining connected to Christ, who is the source of our life. However, our relationship with God is not a purely vertical relationship, it is also a horizontal one, in which our relationship to God is bound up with our relationship to our fellow believers. We are connected to Christ as the branch is connected to the vine, but we must always remember that there are other branches on the vine and that our spiritual fruitfulness is a gift that we are to share with them. Lord, keep us close to you, for without you we can do nothing; but united to you we will bear much more fruit in the harvest of you kingdom.
