Pastor’s Column
Weekend Mass Schedule Changes
Beginning October 5, 2019 Saturday 4:30 PM
Sunday 8:15 AM and 10:00 AM
Thanks to each of you who regularly join in our weekend Mass celebrations of God’s love together. Beginning October 5, 2019 the Saturday Mass will be at 4:30 PM and confessions at 4:00 - 4:20 PM—for many reasons, but espe-cially for those who have difficulty driving in the dark. Hopefully, this earlier time will be safer. Also, our Parish Council and PSR faculty and families have asked for a slight change to our Sunday schedule. Beginning October 5, 2019, Sunday Masses will be at 8:15 AM and 10:00 AM. Since PSR begins at 11:30 AM, this change will allow them to join in our Parish Sunday Mass and get to class on time - espe-cially helpful for our wonderful volunteer PSR teachers. Thanks to each of you for your willingness to change your schedule. We need each and every one of you to carry on the work of our Lord Jesus through being a warm, welcoming, caring family.
Spread the Gospel, the Good News about Jesus and His St. Anthony Family. A Holy Community through Holy Communion! Your brother in Jesus,
Prayer of the Week
Lord Jesus Christ, at Your Last Supper
You prayed to the Father that all should be one. Send Your Holy Spirit
upon all who bear Your name and seek to serve You.
Strengthen our faith in You, and lead us to love one another in humility.
May we who have been reborn in one baptism be united in one faith under one Shepherd.
Amen.
Jokes of the Week
As Seen In Actual Church Bulletins . . .
New carpet: There will be a discussion in two weeks as to how we might raise funds for the new carpet. All who
wish to do something on the carpet should come forward and do so now.
Baptisms: From now on, the north and south ends of the church will be utilized. Children will be baptized at both
ends.
Saint of the Week Jonathan Daniels
Civil Rights Martyr (1939-1965) In March 1965 Jonathan Daniels, an Episcopal semi-narian from New Hampshire, joined other northern stu-dents and clergy who answered Martin Luther King’s call to participate in the historic march for civil rights from Selma, Alabama, to the state capital in Montgomery. Though he had intended to remain only for the weekend, Daniels was so shocked by the system of segregation that he decided to stay on. Lowndes County was a stronghold of the Ku Klux Klan. Though the population was mostly black, not a sin-gle African American was registered to vote. Daniels joined protests against segregated stores and facilities, worked to integrate the local churches, and tutored schoolchildren. All the while, he struggled to see his work as a form of ministry - not just to the oppressed but also to their oppressors. Freedom, he believed, must come by way of the Cross. In August he spent six days in jail after being arrested at a protest. When he was released on August 20, he and a white Catholic priest and two African American women tried to buy a soda at a nearby store. Their way was blocked by a white man, who leveled a shotgun at one of the women, Ruby Sales. Jonathan pushed her aside just in time to take a full blast to his chest. He died instantly. He is commemorated in the Episcopal Church calendar on August 14. “I began to discover a new freedom in the Cross: free-dom to love the enemy; and in that freedom, the freedom (without hypocrisy) to will and to try to set him free.” —Jonathan Daniels

Who Would Like to Grow as Adults In our Catholic Faith?
“Inquiry Into the Catholic Faith”
✞ Do you know the Lord as well as you would like to?
✞ Do you wonder if your prayers and experiences of God are similar to others?
✞ Do you feel your life is on the right track to heaven?
✞ What and why does the Catholic Church teach anything about my life, or my children’s?
✞ Do you need a Community of Christians to support and challenge your faith and concern for others? You are personally invited to our Inquiry into our Catholic Faith (known as RCIA = Rituals of Christian Initia-tion for Adults) For Whom: a) Anyone who wants to become a Catholic Christian. b) Anyone who wants to learn about the Catholic Faith, but does not want to join. (Possibly because of marriage or school.) c) Any Catholic who would like to return to the practice of the faith. d) Any Catholic who wants to deepen their faith and understanding. FAITH in God is a gift but we need to make the effort to nourish it, although making time is not easy. We change with the years and so our faith should grow as well. TAKE TIME to pray over this. If you are interested, encourage a friend or family member to come with you. If you know someone else desiring to become Catholic or return to the practice of the faith, encourage them to let us know. Drop this in the collection basket or send to our Rectory Or email: Father John Reiker : [email protected] For any questions. Activities This Week The Parish Council News:
Parish Council Mission Statement: Our Mission as a Parish Council is to aid our Pastor in fulfilling his duties as Shepherd of our parish.
St Anthony’s Choir The choir was founded in the mid-1990’s under associ-ate pastor, Father Terry Borgerding. Father had agreed to record the celebration of Mass for television viewers and was told he needed to bring the Parish choir. So one was gathered. This group, with varying choir members, guitarists, and organists, remained under the direction of their pianist, Judy Brouk, until her retirement in 2016. It was briefly directed by a non-parishioner, until my appointment in mid 2017. Shortly after this, it was decided to split the choir into a Choir division and a Music division, the lat-ter to be directed by Harry Sheldon. Both divisions meet every Tuesday in church. The mu-sicians and Cantors arrive at 6:30 pm and the rest of the vocalists join us by 7 pm. Together, Harry and I direct a volunteer choir of voices and instruments to accompany the congregation during Sunday Masses, Holydays, and special occasions during the year, in-cluding Sacrament Services and Funerals. I can be reached by calling or texting (636) 253-6115/ email [email protected]. Harry can be reached at (636) 677-4577/ email [email protected] New members are always welcome. Nancy Struckhoff - Choir Director
St. Anthony of Padua, High Ridge, MO
Children’s Liturgy of the Word Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14 Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place during the 10:15 a.m. Sunday Mass. This pro-gram is designed for children ages three through nine. Children’s Liturgy of the Word brings the Gospel to the children in an enlightening and meaningful way and at their level of understanding. Through appropriately adapted Scripture texts, music, prayer, and activities that reinforce the Gospel message, the children have an op-portunity to celebrate their faith in a way that is joyful and relevant to their own young lives. The children are es-corted out of mass by the program catechists after the Opening Prayer and return to mass at Offertory. For more information, contact Kathy Joslin at [email protected] or call 636-677-4868 ext. 118 or 636-677-1567.
