ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA CHURCH LORAIN, OH
I wanted to inform you that after twelve years
of serving the St. Anthony of Padua Parish
School community, Principal Joe Akosi has
decided to accept a new position as Principal
of Saints Joseph & John School in Strongs-
ville. This is a bittersweet moment, as we will
be sad to see Mr. Akosi leave us, however this
new position affords Joe and his family many
new opportunities. In my three years with Joe,
I have found him to be a warm and friendly
man who had a passion for St. Anthony Parish
School and its students. I have greatly enjoyed
working with Mr. Akosi, and I pray that he is
happy and successful in this new position. I
ask all of you to keep Joe, Amy, and their two
children in your prayers, as they embrace this
new path for their lives.
~Rev. Edward J Smith

CONGRATS TO ANDREW & MATTHEW NORD
These two amazing boys were named the senior
recipients of the Pillar of Community Award at
Elyria Catholic. There teachers nominated them
stating that they truly put Christ’s service above
all in their lives. Their dedication to the commu-
nity is shown through years of service in our
parish and involvement in Camp IDEAS. They
are involved in band and just about every club at
E.C., as well, as, several outside of school.
Their love for family shows every day, as they
are inseparable in their volun-
teer activities and constantly
have a watchful, caring eye on
each other. Your parish could
not be more proud of you both!
Congratulations! May God
continue to watch and guide
you on all your endeavors.

ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA CHURCH LORAIN, OH
ADORATION CHAPEL
Our Eucharistic Lord is the center of all
other devotions within our church and the
primary source of grace and mercy. Only
heaven knows for sure if the May
13,1856 founding of the “Congregation
of the Most Blessed Sacrament” was a
prophetic foreshadowing of her May 13, 1917 Fatima
apparition. What is of importance is that we receive
and adore Jesus in the Eucharist. Let us pray that the
role and title of “Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacra-
ment” be properly understood by her children, so that
we can honor her in the way she most desires by giv-
ing adoration and glory to her Son in the Most Blessed
Sacrament.

commitment and sacrifice. Bless all mothers this day.
Keep, strengthen, and refresh them in your loving care.
May they be blessed by our open-hearted love and
gratitude. Amen.

DEAR ST. ANTHONY PARISHIONERS, Barring anything unforeseen, I will be
receiving a liver transplant at the Cleveland
Clinic on Monday, May 21st. My donor is a
parishioner here in Carey, and wishes to re-
main anonymous for the present.
If all goes well, I will be in the hospital for 7-10 days
and then I will need to remain close to the Clinic for 4-6
weeks after discharge. As I understand, blood work will
be done every day for the first couple of weeks and then
every 2-3 days to make certain I am not rejecting the new
liver.
Last year, when I was with my sister in Virginia, she
began a Facebook page for me. It is under the name
John/JR. I will try to have someone keep that up to date
until I am able to update it myself.
I have always believed strongly in the power of
prayer when I and others, have prayed for health and
healing for someone. But last year, I learned, firsthand,
the power of that kind of prayer, as the recipient. I am
completely convinced that the only reason I am still here,
after two nearly fatal experiences, is that so many people
have kept me in their prayers. To all who have prayed
for me, I thank you and ask that you continue to keep me
in your prayers and to include my donor. She is a very
courageous young women who is about to undergo a
very painful surgery and she is doing it happily and self-
lessly.
Insurance covers all medical expenses for both my
donor and me; however, there are expenses that are not
covered by insurance. I thank all of you who have cho-
sen to help us financially. Others have asked me how
can they join in on this support. If you wish to do so,
simply make checks payable to OLC Friary and put my
name in the memo line at the bottom of the check. I am
grateful to all who have already helped and anyone who
wants to help now.
The transplant will be done the day after Pentecost. I
am taking that as a good sign of the Spirit’s presence.
Thank you for your prayers and support.
~Fr. John-Raphael Hadnagy

POPE SAYS PURPORTED VISIONS OF MARY CAN LEAD PEOPLE AWAY FROM GOD Vatican City (Catholic News Service) - Purported visions of Mary, if taken in the wrong spirit, can sow confusion and distance people from the Gospel, Pope Francis said. Curiosities distance people “from the Gospel, from the Holy
Spirit, from peace and hope, from God’s glory and God’s beauty,” the pope said November 14, 2013 during a homily at morning Mass in the Vatican guesthouse, where he lives. “Jesus says that the kingdom of God doesn’t come in a
way that attracts attention,” the pope said, according to a report by Vatican Radio. Pope Francis reflected on the day’s Gospel reading from Luke (17:20-25), in which the Pharisees ask Jesus when the kingdom of God will come. Jesus answers that the “coming of the kingdom of God cannot be observed,” and tells his disciples not to “run in pur-suit” of signs of his second coming. “Curiosity pushes us to want to hear that the Lord is here or over there, or it
makes us say, ‘Well, I know a visionary who receives letters from Our Lady, messages from Our Lady,’ ” the pope
said. But Mary is “not a postmaster of the post office sending our messages every day.” “The kingdom of God is
among us,” he said, “Don’t look for strange things, don’t seek novelties with this worldly curiosity.”
