SCAM ALERT St. Anthony of Padua parish continues to receive information from parishioners, other parishes and the Diocese of Rockville Centre, that requests for money have been made via email by a person using a pastor’s name with a bogus email address. In other in-stances members of the congregation have received text messages, supposedly from the pastor, requesting that they purchase gift cards because the “pastor” wanted them for patients battling cancer.

The instruction in the text was to expose the PIN number and then take a picture of the card with the PIN number back to the person sending the text. These are fraudulent requests. Know This: St. Anthony of Padua, Fr. Joe Mirro, utility companies and government agencies will not contact you demanding immediate payment by prepaid gift card. Caution! Be suspicious of callers who demand immediate payment for any reason. Information Never give out personal or financial information to anyone who emails or calls you unsolicited. Remem-ber that anyone who has the number on a prepaid gift card has access to the funds on the card. Know Them: Never wire money, provide debit or credit card numbers or prepaid gift card numbers to someone you do not know. Be aware that scammers can manipulate CALLER ID and calls may falsely appear to come from St. Anthony’s, Father Joe Mirro, the police, government agencies or your utility company. If you receive a phone call, email, or text message instructing you to purchase a prepaid merchant GIFT/DEBIT CARD, CRYPTOCURRENCY, or MONEY ORDER to pay: Law enforcement for bail * IRS for owed taxes * Utility company to avoid service interruption * Immigration officials to avoid deportation/arrest * Social Security officials for fraudulent activity/warrant/arrest involving your Social Security number * Ransom * Hospital for emergency treatment of a loved one 1

As we commemorate

the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary this month, Pope Francis calls on us to pray

"that she guard us and sustain us,

that we may have a strong faith, joyful and merciful:

that she help us to be holy, to meet her, one day in paradise."

THANK YOU! Through your support

of the Catholic Ministries Appeal

you help to spread the joy of our faith with others!

Ministries for our young people empower them to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today, by imparting knowledge and experiences of our Catholic faith, so they are inspired to make a differ-ence in our world. Living as disciples means that lives are formed in the radical way of love that Jesus taught. This re-quires a good deal of confidence and courage. Pope John Paul II once remarked: "the young hunger for a chance to participate in a worthy adventure." "My faith is so important to me - because without it I would be lost. I wouldn't know what I would be doing right or wrong. I wouldn't have God's voice with me at all times. He guides me!"

Michaela Your contribution to

the Catholic Ministries Appeal helps young people encounter Christ

in their life! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Sacrificial Giving 2019

Did We Take a Step?

Good stewards believe that God, who has begun this good work in them, will carry it through to completion. In words and deeds,

they can sing with the Psalmist, “The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy!”

FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE: Our parish now offers Online Giving, a web -based electronic contribution application. We are providing this service so that YOU have the option to manage your contributions online or with your offering envelopes. This service is safe and secure. And it is convenient for you and for our parish staff. Sign up for Online Giving by visiting https:www.osvonlinegiving.com/1869. There you will find St. Anthony of Padua parish online giving.

God’s message this week: Run the race, even when it is hard!

This week’s New Testament reading from Hebrews talks

about something we can all understand: running a race. We all know how to run, but is the writer talking about an actual running race? Not really, no. He is talking about the persever-ance and endurance that it takes to run a real race, but applying that toward the way we live our lives. Huh? Well, have you ever gotten to the point in a race or sporting event or game when you just felt like you couldn’t run any longer? In 2017, I ran the NYC Marathon, and there were definitely points in that race when I didn’t know if my legs could get me to the finish line! As I ap-proached Central Park, the crowds cheered and encouraged me, and I felt like my legs just moved on their own until I reached the finish line. I could have given up at any point, but I knew that I wanted to cross that finish line and earn my medal, and I knew that I had the

support of the people who were watching the race, including mem-bers of my family and complete strangers. We are called to show that same endurance in our daily lives. There are times when it will be dif-ficult to live as God wants us to, but we have to keep our eyes on that finish line and count on the support of the people around us.

Prayer for the week: Dear God, help us to keep our eyes on You as we go through

our daily lives. Teach us to count on the support of others, and to of-

fer our support in return. Amen!

HELP NEEDED!! The Family Liturgy Committee is looking for volunteers. Our Sunday liturgies and

special activities cannot happen without your help!

We are currently looking for adult volun-

teers to serve as Committee members or

Homilists, and young people (grades 4-12)

to serve as Young Lectors. The time

commitment for our ministry is small

(usually one Mass per month for Commit-

tee members and one Mass every other

month for Young Lectors), and no special

talents are required – just a willingness to share your time!

Please reach out to Kristen Ng ([email protected] or

(646) 812-0531 call/text) with any questions or concerns. In order to allow our

ministry to grow and flourish, help is needed. Are you being called???

Each of you should use whatever gift you have

received to serve others, as faithful stewards of

God’s grace in its various forms. (1 Peter 4:10)

Eucharistic Ministers!!

There is presently an URGENT NEED for Eucharistic Ministers to bring the Holy Eucharist to the patients at Huntington Hospital! St. Anthony’s Church is committed to this ministry each Thursday—this means volunteering for only one Thursday every four weeks. Please consider your precious opportunity to love and serve Jesus in “His most distressing disguise”! EMs who have done this ministry in the past would be most welcomed. Please contact Regina Whitaker at 631-757-7028.

“Feed My Lambs” is the weekly request of the SVDP society to parishioners to bring to Church the one or two items of which the Food Pantry is in low supply.

This week’s items are: Cereal, Crackers, Coffee, Box Juices, Chunky Soups, Solid white tuna fish. Of course any other items you wish to donate will be gratefully accepted, but the items that we are concentrating on will help us ensure that these items will be in supply for our clients. All items can be left in the rear of the Church before and after all weekend Masses. During the week, items can be brought to Parish Outreach, between the hours of 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Thank you for helping us minister to the lambs of our community who are in need.

Please do not leave perishable items, opened items, clothing items, household items in the Vestibule Food Bin. Thank you!
