TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY in ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 25, 2013

REFLECTIONS ON THE REIGN OF GOD

A threefold message is developed in today’s readings. First, everyone is called to proclaim God’s glory and receive salvation. Second, salvation is not for the unprepared. Like a loving parent, God gently corrects and disciplines those who have been called. Often, suffering may be part of the formation process. We learn to accept it as Jesus once accepted his cross. Third, some people who are treated with contempt and disdain by the self-righteous, actually do have a place in God’s kingdom. We need to take these lessons to heart. Recall your initial excitement upon hearing God’s word. How has the Good News that once struck your fancy taken deeper root in your life? Look again at the crosses you have been given. How are others transformed when they see how you have accepted and grown from your sufferings? Finally, are there some people you imagine as not invited into God’s kingdom? Why do you feel this way about them? For a moment, imagine them on the inside and yourself on the outside. How can this be possible? Always try your best to enter by the narrow gate, gladly proclaiming God’s glory. - J.S. Paluch Co.

HOLY HUMOR

A little boy said—”Gramma, please take me to the

circus.” Said she—”I can’t, Honey. I’ve got to go to Prayer Meeting.” Said he—”Gramma, if you’d go

to the circus just once, you’d never want to go to

prayer meeting again.” ***

A man approaches a very dignified lady at a wedding. “Are you

a friend of the groom?” The lady replied—”I should say not.

I’m the Bride’s mother.”

as they REMEMBER VICKIE VALDEZ. Thank you

and May she rest in peace! Dear Lord, Thank you for teaching me to be gener-

ous, as you have been generous with me. Thank you

for showing me that all I am and have, are gifts from

you and that these gifts from you, Lord, are meant to

be shared. Show me the joys of generosity. Help me

to understand that others, perhaps unknown to me, de-

pend on me for help. Remind me that my world, my

parish, needs "Good Samaritans" to heal the wounds

of our times. Make me a gift to others in your name.

A Amen.

Janie, Thank you for asking for a testimony on our experience over World Youth Day, I've learned

that we have a great mission to make Christ known to people and to ask for his grace as aid.

This will help. Thanks again! — Paz de Christo, Vincent Carrasco

Like many of us, I have received a calling from God, an invitation to accept his abundant graces.

5 years ago that invitation was made known to me, by the grace of God. I am being called to be

a missionary priest to serve God's people and deliver the most Holy Eucharist to those far from it

in South America. The past few weeks out of the country has had a profound impact on me just by

the great commission that we are all called to act on: To go and make disciples of all nations.

First of all, with any calling— marriage, single life, youth ministry, priesthood, or religious life — I think there's always doubt,

and hesitation. There is present some type of fear that keeps us from responding to the invitation that God sends. For me

this is what I suffer from....suffer from fear, fear from being alone along the way, fear of what I don't know ahead, and even

fear of being a part of a love that might fail.

The message throughout the week was to not be afraid, because God is always with us. Pope Francis said repeatedly that

―God. Is. With us.‖ In my reassurance, I listened to everything that Pope Francis said to not be afraid, that we as youth have

a great mission to respond to the calling that God offers to us. He tells us that Christ has already gone before us among the

world, and in his sending he dwells among us.

In my reflection I came to a better understand that I am not alone, that I shouldn't be afraid, and that Christ in his sending,

always accompanies us. I felt a heated flame inside of me grow, and yearn for the love that Christ offers.

Pope Francis sent a message that helped me see more clearly what needs to be done, no matter my youth. Go, don't be

afraid, and finally, to serve. If you would like to hear a little more over my experience at World Youth Day visit my blog at

www.catholicsoup.blogspot.com

FOR MORE ON WORLD YOUTH DAY, see our Parish September Newsletter and watch for future bulletins, as the four attending

from our parish share what it was like for them, to be in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil for this amazing history-making gathering of

Catholic youth with the Holy Father, Pope Francis. His message is one for all the world. May the youth keep the fire of faith

Alive for all the Church.
