Columbus Day – Monday, October 9 Daily Mass will be celebrated at 8:00 AM
Dear Parishioners,
On Wednesday, October 11 we will celebrate the feast day of
Pope Saint John XXIII. Born of a farming family in Sorto Il
Monte in Northern Italy in 1881, Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli was
ordained a priest in 1904. He became a stretcher bearer in World
War 1 and later was made national director of the Society of the
Propagation of the Faith, the society about which we wrote last
week and the Society which sent Bishop Muldoon to us. After
serving in the Papal diplomatic corps for some years, he was
named a Cardinal by Pope Pius XX and appointed patriarch of
Venice in 1953. When Pope Pius died in 1958, Cardinal Roncalli
was elected Pope on the 12th ballot and took the name John.
Almost immediately after his election he mentioned the
possibility of an ecumenical council, a meeting of bishops from
all over the world, along with representatives of other faiths,
something which hadn’t happened in one hundred years. He
convoked the Second Vatican Council in 1962 and the Council
held sessions until the closing session on December 8, 1965.
Short in stature and described as roly poly, when Pope John
donned the white papal cassock for the first time he looked in the
mirror and said: “Good Lord, this man will be a disaster on
television.”
“Good Pope John” as the world came to know and love him,
died of stomach cancer on June 3, 1963. His feast day, October 11
recalls the day of the first session of the Vatican Council.
Declared Blessed in 2000, he was canonized a saint along with
Pope John Paul II by Pope Francis on April 27, 2014.
Sincerely,
Fr John R. Mulvehill

This year brings us to a new mission location. We
will be heading back to the west end of Louisville
Kentucky. This is where we started. The mission
never stops. Truthfully our lives have a way of
taking us over and sometimes we can forget what is important.
Our weekly meetings help all of us to remember what we have
done and what we need to do. These meetings are not designed to
be a classroom or a Bible study in the more traditional sense. Each
of us talks openly about what we see and understand about the
world and then see how our faith is such an important part of what we understand. This faith journey is just that. We are constantly
learning. We may lose our way, but we always find away to come
back. Each of us has a unique perspective of how our faith plays
out in our lives. I always say to the group my faith is where it is
because of my life circumstances, yours is where it is because of
yours. No ones is better or more important the the other. What is
important is the central part of our faith. God's love for us and our
love for God.

HOLY RELICS OF ST. ANTHONY WILL
VISIT OUR PARISH ON SUNDAY OCTOBER
15,2017 Fr. Mulvehill has invited Friar Mario Conte to bring the
holy and first-class relics to our Parish on Sunday,
October 15. Veneration will be before and after each
mass: 8 AM, 9:30 AM, 11:30 AM and 5 PM, with
veneration all afternoon.
Father Mario Conte, OFM Conv, Executive Editor of the Messenger
of Saint Anthony, will travel from the Basilica of Saint Anthony of
Padua, in Padua, Italy, with two relics of the beloved saint.
One reliquary contains the floating rib of Saint Anthony and the
other reliquary contains layers of the saint’s skin. The reliquary,
which contains the floating rib, is quite blessed because of its
association with Pope Francis and Sister Lucy of Fatima, both of
who received the holy reliquary.
Saint Anthony of Padua is known to millions of Catholics for ‘lost
items.
Father Mulvehill and Deacon Paul Rooney are very pleased to
welcome the relics of Saint Anthony, a dear friend and lifelong
intercessor in the Catholic World. Please join them for this special
day of devotion, mass, novenas and veneration. Prayer petitions will
be distributed by Fr. Mario and his staff to allow parishioners to
write their prayer petition to the saint. Father Mario will bring the
petitions back to the Basilica in Padua and place them at the tomb of
Saint Anthony. The tour officially ends back at the Tomb of Saint
Anthony where the Friars will gather to pray for the saint’s
intercession upon our intentions and requests.
