LADIES CLUB Join us on April 7 for Food Truck Saturday. We will have two trucks serving from 4-7 p.m. There will be seating available in the lunch-room. The event is sponsored by the Ladies Club with the profits benefiting the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

From The Desk of Msgr. Matthew Mitas: REMEMBER THAT APRIL IS THE MONTH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE HOLY EUCHARIST!

HE IS TRULY RISEN!

As St. Paul said so well, “If Christ is not risen, your faith is vain.” In other words, if Jesus’ Body is moldering away in some obscure rocky crevice in Palestine, the whole of our Christian faith is refuted, and all the struc-tures we’ve created over the centuries, both intellectual and spiritual, would collapse from being empty and void. But He is truly risen! He appeared to all His apostles and to more than five hundred others. They saw Him, they spoke with Him, they touched Him, and even dined with Him…He was not a phantom, a ghost, a specter, or an illusion. Most of all, they died for Him, in many cases suffering horrible tortures (and even cruci-fixion) like His own. Is it even momentarily conceivable that they would have done that were they not convinced that He had risen from the dead?

Two thousand years later, the earth still resounds with the glorious message, and His disciples are still willing to embrace sufferings like unto His own because of it. The Resurrection gives hope to a world where there is still too much darkness, selfishness and sin. And the hope is this: no matter what you have done, no matter what has transpired, you need not die in your sins. Even in the depths of evil, good is still triumphant. Even when there is no visible way out, Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and still the Good Shepherd who leads us to the green pastures of wholeness and holiness. So as the ancient hymn proclaims, “Christians, rejoice!” The reason why is clear: Our Savior has truly risen, and given us all the hope of glory!

PILGRIMAGE TO EWTN (May 21-24)

Be sure to get your reservations in ASAP. (Flyers are located in the vestibule of church and at the parish offices.)

ANYONE UP FOR “BANGERS AND MASH”?

The next logical stop in our journey through the various lands of ethno-hagiographical dinners would be on Saturday evening, April 21, when we would commemorate the martyrdom of St. George, patron of England, and honor him with a banquet of British epicurial delights. What’s that you said? You didn’t think that there was anything the Brits eat that you would care to ingest? You’ve obviously never partaken of Bangers & Mash (sausages with mashed potatoes), Bubble & Squeak (vegetables, beef, and spuds all fried together), Cottage Pie (a variant of Shepherd’s Pie, using beef instead of lamb), or Beef Wellington. Granted, great food is not the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of England, but the limey’s aren’t starving, so they obviously can slap a decent meal together (as long as you don’t use chutney!). As of this writing, I don’t know whether or not we’re going to be able to pull it all together, but stay tuned, and we’ll try to come up with some kind of a program. Otherwise, the next dinner will be in early June, when we come back to German food on the feast of St. Boni-face.

UPCOMING EVENTS

QUOTES OF THE WEEK

“One death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.” – Joseph Stalin Ed. note: Here are the statistics: 60,000,000 babies murdered through abortion in the United States alone since 1973 and $500,000,000 given to “Planned Parenthood” by our govern-ment every year to promote the barbaric practice. On a different note, here’s another stat: a child raised in a single-parent house-hold is 34 times more likely to be abused than one who is raised in one where his mom and dad are married and living there. “Today children – children! – are taught in school that everyone can choose his or her own sex. Why are they teaching this? Because the books are provided by the persons and institutions that give you money. These forms of ideological colonization are also supported by influential countries. And this is terrible! God created man and woman; God created the world in a certain way…and we are doing the ex-act opposite.” – Pope Francis, in a 2016 address to Polish bishops

ARCHDIOCESE OF ST. LOUIS OFFICE OF THE ARCHBISHOP Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018 Dear Faithful of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, During this Lenten Season, we prepare ourselves for the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and seek to strengthen our relationship with God through prayer and sacrifice. It is in that light that I write to you today.

The annual Collection for Retired Priests will be taking place today, Easter Sunday. This collection serves to pro-vide support and care for our retired priests who have sacrificed so much for our parishes and communities. The Collection for Retired Priests is an opportunity to give back to those who give so much.

Through spiritual milestones and decades of service, our priests have been there when you, your family and your fellow parishioners have counted on them. And while they continue to serve in the name of God, in retirement it is they who count on you for prayers and support. Your individual contributions help meet the needs of our aging priests including physician services, hospitalization, nursing home care, vision care and disability.

Please help to ensure that this care is available for retired priests now and in the future by contributing to the Col-lection for Retired Priests. You can also contribute online by visiting http://giving.archstl.org/Product/archbishops-collection-for-retired-priests-pmbs. The Archdiocese and our priests are so deeply grateful for your support.

Please know our retired priests are praying for you and your families during this Easter Season.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson Archbishop of St. Louis
