Annual Charge Conference If you think about the Annual Charge Conference and start to doze off, you’ll be pleased to know that it has been re-vamped this year to be a bit less stuffy and a lot more useful! In last month’s newsletter, we gave you an overview of what is going to transpire on November 4th. Now is the time to commit! So many of you recognize that connecting with our community, welcoming new people into relationship with Christ, and the ministries of our church are critical priorities. The learning opportunity being offered as part of our charge conference will provide you with some significant resources and an opportunity to discern how you, and our church can better connect with our neighbors.
WHEN: November 4, 2017, 9-noon.
WHERE: Centenary UMC in Bonne Terre at 20
Park Avenue.
WHO: YOU
The event will begin with fellowship and coffee from 9:00-9:30. The learning event itself will begin at 9:30 and end at noon.
You must sign-up to attend. You can do this by calling the church office or by signing up on the sheet on the bulletin board outside the church office. The deadline to sign up is October 18th.
What is your ikigai? No, my Spell Check is working fine. It’s just that this is the closest way to sound out the Japanese characters for ‘reason for being.’ Ikigai is seen as the convergence of four primary elements: Passion, Mission, Vocation, and Profession. In other words, it is that ‘spot’ or ‘place’ combining what we love, what the world needs, what we are good at, and what we get paid to do.
In his first letter to young Timothy, the Apostle Paul wrote about why he went to such lengths in laboring for the sake of the gospel message of Jesus Christ. Paul’s reason for being was all about the hope he found in the living God.

Thomas Jefferson North #510 202 W. 18th St. Rolla, MO 65401

Paul had planted his trust–had placed his hope—in knowing the God who came to him in the person of Jesus Christ. Regardless of what other cultures may term the reason for people getting up in the morning, as followers of Jesus Christ, we plant our trust in the God who gives us our reason. I ask that you continue in prayer for the Listening Tour Follow-Up Team. They will be meeting soon to discuss ways we can flesh out the big WHY of being part of St. Andrew’s UMC. The exact road we travel is still unseen, but with our “WHY” in place, we can move with the confidence that God will use our collective purposes to bring glory to God’s Kingdom.

Did you see the most recent issue of The Missouri Methodists? Pages 5-8 is an article about the success of camp this summer. There is a prominent picture of Asa Faust, Isaac Faust, Stephanie Fu, and Lily Courtois on page 8. Additionally, if you access the magazine online at:
http://www.moumethodist.org/magazine
you can watch a video that includes several of our campers. You can watch for these highlights:
At the 0:12 mark, watch for Isaac being carried around by two pretty girls.
There’s some hand jive at 0:23 that includes all the Faust youth.
Lily auditions for the Rockettes at the 0:31 mark.
Austin gets caught off guard at about 1:20.

The Women’s Mission Group at St. Andrew’s is selling pecans again. Orders must be received by October 2, 2017. The cost is $11.50 for a 1 pound bag of medium chopped pecans and $12 for a 1 pound bag of large pecan halves. Pecans will be available for pick-up at the church after October 26, 2017. According to Mildred at the Food Pantry, they can use any of the following during the month of October: canned peas canned pasta without meat hominy mixed vegetables
Just as there are items needed, there are items that are not. They do not need cans of corn or green beans.
The Sanctuary roof has been replaced! Work was completed the week of Labor Day. There was a small incident with a roofing supply truck that caused damage to the Cross and Flame on the front lawn, but that has been repaired. (It looks very nice too.)
To date, there has been $14,996.27 in contributions for the roof. This is about $5,000 shy of the 2017 goal, so please be diligent about your contributions through the end of the year and in 2018.
We’re doing good, and the chart below shows our progress over the past few months.
Remember: the goal is to reach $20,000
before the end of 2017!
Redeemer Lutheran will be hosting Singspiration on October 29th at 6 PM. However, we received a letter from them inviting everyone to come early for a German dinner to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Protestant Reformation.
The dinner will be free, and they’ll be serving food from 4-5:30 PM. Following the Singspiration, desserts will be served.
To know how much food they will need, they’ve asked us to indicate how
many will be attending. You can sign-up on the bulletin board outside the church office or call the office and let us know you’d like to be on the list. Please let us know by October 19th.
The popular Mount Olive Tea will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017. There will be two settings; one in the morning at 11 AM and one in the afternoon at 1:30 PM. Tickets are $12 each and St. Andrew’s has reserved tickets for each setting. Please call the church office to get a ticket.
Please note that this is the same day as the Annual Charge Conference, and you will need to reserve tickets for the afternoon setting if you plan to attend both.
