Dear Members:I’M BAAACK! And unless I get impeached, you are stuck with me for one more year. On a more serious note, I consider it an honor and a privilege to be able to serve this community and I look forward to another terrific year.Congratulations are in order to new Board member, Larry Altschul and also to returnees, Alice Newman Friedman, Wendy Kohansky, and past president, Michael Goldman. Let me once again express my heartfelt thanks to Ron Gallatin and Ed Cooperman who leave the Board after six years with tremendous dedication and hard work. Their advice and insight has been so valuable and the contributions they have made certainly are a large part of the successes we have had at St. Andrews. It is with mixed emotions that we say goodbye to Emma MacHugh, Catering & Events Manager, who will be leaving us to head back home where her fiancée has been accepted at Yale for his residency. We are thankful for all that she has done for St. Andrews and it will be a tough task for anyone to fill her shoes. I wish her and her fiancée all the best.Color War just gets better and better every year. For everybody who participated, I’m sure you will all agree. It was fun and exciting for all ages with events in golf, tennis, junior tennis, fitness, bridge and even a Team Song contest. Overall, March was filled with many events like the Men’s and Ladies’ Golf and Tennis Member-Guests, Husband and Wife Golf Club Championship and the Men’s Golf Classic Tournament. April promises to be just as busy with our traditional Passover and Easter holiday celebrations and of course, our Spring Social Event, “New York, New York,” on April, 18. (Next year we have plans to theme the Spring Social “Boston, Boston!”)Jody and I hope you enjoy your holidays with your family and friends and look forward to seeing you around the “campus.”Stay Healthy,

Dear Members: With winter behind us, we are looking forward to delivering an exciting spring season of events and activities for your enjoyment. There has been a message heard time and time again from members that the Club should be offering the membership who live year round the same level of services and programs as we do during the winter season. This is an excellent topic to bring up at this time as we are starting to outline our summer plans for the calendar. I encourage each of you that live here year round with suggestions and ideas of things that you would like to see us consider putting forth, so please email us your thoughts and comments to the attention of Joanna Pratt at [email protected]. We will compile and share the list with our committee members who will work with the staff to outline a plan that fits within the current 2015 budget. We will certainly consider each request and if we do not implement this summer, it will go into our budget planning for the following year’s plan. We always appreciate the constructive suggestions to help make your Club even better. Be sure to make your reservations for the exciting New York New York Spring Event on April 18 and enjoy the fabulous entertainment of the R. Williams band with and array of creative food and visual displays to highlight the spring season. I want to express my Warm Welcome to the Board members that were just recently elected and wish them all the best as we work together to make the Club even greater over the next few years. We have many thrilling ideas resulting from the Strategic Planning of our Long Range Planning Committee that promise to continue to distinguish St. Andrews Country Club as the finest of private Clubs in the market and country. Our home sales continue to strengthen and the talk in the market is that there is positive excitement and great things happening at St. Andrews. The fresh ideas and new programs being planned to attract new buyers into the community will continue to solidify and elevate your home values. We have seen no decline in interest and activity as a result of the restoration of our initiation fee. In fact, just the opposite. Our Club’s position in the market reflects our confidence in our brand and again reinforces that we are well positioned in the place we deserve as the top Club in the market. There is always not enough space and time to recognize all of the gratitude to individuals on my superior team but know that I am very proud of the dedication of each of the ladies and gentlemen who come to work each day with the pride and positive attitude to make your Club the Best of the Best. Enjoy the good life at St. Andrews.

Best,

Summer time and the livin’ is easy…

Every year we see more and more members staying at St. Andrews instead of heading to second homes up north, out west or to other countries. This trend has allowed us to begin enhancing our activities, entertainment and dining

programs to include the summer months for full time members. Summer is really a great time to be at the club because there are rarely wait times at the club or in local restaurants. A reciprocal program that includes dining and golf allows members to experience other clubs (and we are always happy to hear how much they prefer the St. Andrews Style). Reciprocals are being discussed and we will publish the participating clubs once finalized. In the meantime, here are a few highlights from this summer’s calendar.Themed dinner nights on Tuesdays starts with Burgers & Brews then later in the summer we will roll out our all-you-can-eat picnic series at Lakeside. Wednesdays and Fridays (as well as Cinco de Mayo) and the ever popular summer Clam Bake. Entertainment continues through May in The View. Our kids’ activities are still in full swing and Memorial Day promises to be even better than last year. This summer we are introducing some great cooking classes starting in June hosted by the St. Andrews Culinary Team. In July join us for Vino Picasso where your artistic talent meets social sipping. Karaoke continues every other Tuesday through summer. Late June is our Annual Summer Bash (island style dinner and dancing). In September join us for a night at the opera with Warren Tesh followed by Kitchen Confidential – an interactive Chef led reception and dinner in our kitchen in October.Summers have never been so fun here at St. Andrews!

THE F INAL STRETCHMarch began with the 2nd Annual Championship Sunday. Wendy Kohansky held off a tough Amy Ross on the 18th hole to capture her 5th club championship title and 4th in a row. On the Men’s side, newcomer Robert Buchalter held off 3-time champion David Bender with a spectacular shot on the 17th hole to capture his 1st title at St. Andrews.

Congratulations to all the fight winners and runner-ups and thank you for making Championship Sunday so special! March stayed busy with the 22nd Annual “Men’s Golf Classic.” Captain David Bender led the team of George Rudes, Bob Vogel, Don Golden, and Jay Green into this year’s winners circle with a two day total of 19 under par. After coming in runner-up last year Bender kept the nucleus of his team together and cruised to victory. The team led by Randy Katz made a strong push by shooting a record 12 under par on Sunday to finish at 18 under par, just one behind the winners. There was a three-way tie for 3rd place at 17 under par.Next up was the Ladies’ annual Member-Guest held on Thursday, March 19. Tournament chairs Serena Werber and Laura Blackman put together an incredible day and turned the club into “50 Shades of Green.” The event had 210 participants, the most ever in the history of the event. The event showcased how special a place St. Andrews really is. The month closed out with the 2015 Color War. This was a spectacular 3-day event where members participated in bridge, tennis, fitness, and golf activities throughout the weekend and ended with a tug-of-war on the driving range and a poolside cocktail party. Color War is like being at Camp St. Andrews. Our Busy Golf Season concludes with the following events:April 6 – 10 Junior Golf ClinicsApril 12 Husband & Wife Club ChampionshipApril 14 & 21 WGA Ringer Event

Greetings St. Andrews Country Club members,

It’s great to be back on the lesson tee at St. Andrews! The club has made some terrific changes and it’s nice to see familiar faces again. I’m so glad to have the opportunity to be here again as your PGA/LPGA teaching professional. My basic philosophy of teaching the game is simple:• Teach good solid fundamentals,

and golf swings will repeat.• Everyone is looking for

consistency, lower scores, and more enjoyable rounds of golf.

• Proper grip, posture, balance, and tempo produce golf swings you can count on.

• Good decisions and confidence on the course help you score.

• Properly fitted equipment is a necessity and knowing what your body can and can’t do is essential in asking you to make changes to your swing.

There are lots of opinions about swinging the club and playing the game. I’ll always ask what, when, where, how, and why, and I’ll listen to your concerns and help you set realistic goals. We’ll make the learning fun, and we’ll get results together. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and helping you elevate your game!

March did come in like a lion with golfers roaring through their championship matches. Congratulations to all the winners and runners up in each flight. Championship Flight Champion, Wendy Kohansky, and runner up, Amy Ross. Flight I, winner was Julie Gitlin and runner up, Wendy Child. Flight II winner, Elaine Sarnoff, runner up Ina Rae Fox. Flight III winner was Wendy Legum, and runner up, Gayle Floyd. 9-Hole winner, Rose Nidetz, and runner up, Lynn Kruger. Our competitors played great golf and were exciting to watch! Our postponed Love is in the Air tournament was a great success. Alice Glassman and Joan Stark did a terrific job bringing some Valentines Love into March with the one hour golf clinic given by all our golf professionals, in chipping, putting and driving range work followed by a 9-hole scramble and a delicious brunch. Serena Werber and Laura Blackman welcomed spring 2015 with the most beautiful and fun Ladies’ Member-Guest Day: Fifty Shades of Green. We had a sold out field who enjoyed every last detail of a superbly planned day even down to green and white straws in the glasses. Our Club staff outdid themselves: Pro and Catering staffs so organized; the food a culinary delight! The St. Andrews Room was a gorgeous garden! So if you were not in Kelly, lime, clover, moss or just plain golf green, you and friends missed a fabulous day.Do not oversleep. Join us for our S.A.W.G.A. Spring Golf Tournament and Luncheon on April 28 chaired by Sharon Fontini and Robin Milich. Get a good night’s sleep, brush your teeth and join our Spring “Slumber Par Tee.” If you snooze, you’ll lose out on a fun day. Colors of the day: mellow yellow, baby doll blue, lilac and precious pink. Sign up in the Golf Shop.Start planning your summer golf calendar. Summer Swingers, chaired by Ina Rae Fox, begins at the end of April. The South Palm League will begin in May, and information will be posted in the locker room and available in the Golf Shop. We will also be sending out information in an eblast shortly. Please remember that St. Andrews is one of the only clubs in the area that have an on-going, year-round tournament schedule for all S.A.W.G.A. members. Director of Golf, Paul Clivio and his staff are always available for lessons, clinics, etc. to help your game get that much better. Please remember to post your scores: 9-hole or partial rounds and social rounds, especially. It is the handicap system that keeps us on a “level playing field.” We look forward to your enjoying your golf at St. Andrews!

Over NetTHE

It’s hard to believe but spring is in the air (or I guess I should say summer for us Floridians) which means our tennis season is coming to a close. This past month has been incredibly busy on the courts and I would like to report on three very successful events: The 6th Annual Addison Reserve / St. Andrews Canal Cup Tennis Challenge was played on home soil and team St. Andrews came through with flying colors. The coveted cup trophy will now remain in the St. Andrews Tennis Shop as we won 10 matches to 3! Congrats to all players for your participation and support. We recently had our extremely popular Ladies’ and Men’s Member – Guest tournaments. For the “LOVE” of Tennis” was our Ladies’ theme and a special thank you goes out to co-chairs Gris Rudes and Candy Mesner for all their hard work, support and dedication in making everything so amazing. Winners in the Amore Division were Karen Weisfeld and guest Selina Weller, Finalists Gris Rudes and guest Ariella Dixon. Winners in the Amore Division were Elayne Blackman and guest Laura

Blackman, Finalists Susan Emby and guest Lisa Rosenstein, 3rd Place Helen Morton and guest Barbara Glicken, 4th Place Wendy Child and guest Arlene Naids. Winners of the L’Amour Division were Janyce

Speier and guest Jennifer Kurtz, Finalists Dawn Weisz and guest Stacey Krinsky, 3rd Place Mary Beth Wolf and guest Theresa Bowman. Catering“Start spreading the news………… “ If you haven’t already secured your reservation for the Spring Social on April 18, now is the time before we are sold out. This is an event even Frank Sinatra would not want to miss, so make sure to “Be a part of it……….. New York, New York!” The talented committee of Ed Rice, Mark Kleiner, Diane Vogel, Barbara Golden and Camille Fish, have put together a fabulous, fun evening to round out our social calendar.Again, we are always very appreciative when a member selects St. Andrews Country Club as the venue for a personal occasion and a big part of any event is the culinary aspect of the program, especially dessert! Many of you have not had the pleasure of meeting our pastry team, which is

led by the very talented Chef Peggy Stout, assisted by the equally as talented, Henry Ling. Peggy and Henry really enjoy working with the client to not only provide outstanding desserts, but creating that specialty cake.

They always love a challenge! When also asked what were the top four desserts our members enjoy the most, they were quick to respond, Wawona Peaches (also known as Greenbrier Peaches), Chocolate Chip Cookies, Key Lime Pie and Vanilla Biscotti. Bon Appetit! As always, please do not hesitate to contact the Catering Department with any special requests, whether it is small or large! Looking forward to seeing you at the Spring Social!

HIT THE WEIGHTS: Upping your lean muscle mass will lower your insulin resistance and help you curb the horrible sugar cravings. Build 3 days of resistance training into your weekly fitness plan. Aim for at least 2 ½ hours a week of cardio activity such as running, cycling, or swimming.

GET YOUR SLEEP:Long-term sleep deprivation may amp up the body’s insulin resistance, especially with people who have a predisposition to diabetes. Researchers have found that those who regularly snoozed fewer than 6 hours a night were at the highest risk. Try to get at least 7 hours of shut-eye each night.

GET YOUR FIBER:The rough stuff isn’t just good for digestion, it also curbs post-meal sugar spikes by slowing the flow of glucose into the bloodstream. So when you crave something sweet, opt for fiber rich fruit such as raspberries, apples, or pears… your sugar cravings will diminish!

CHILLING:Chronic stress is a risk factor for many major diseases. When your body senses stress, it releases hormones that increase blood sugar. That rush might be beneficial in a pinch but very dangerous long-term. Regularly practicing deep breathing or mediation, listening to calming music, or getting massages can quell stress hormones and help lower overall blood sugar…. hence craving less sugar.

EMBRACE YOUR OMEGAS:The omega-3 fatty acids found in foods like oily fish: salmon, sardines, tuna will help improve insulin sensitivity. Nuts such as almonds and walnuts, beans and avocados will also help get your good fats, as well as diminishing your sugar cravings.

DO THE D:The “Sunshine Vitamin” may be the key factor in the fight against diabetes, as well as craving sugars. Consume 1000-2000 IU of Vitamin D a day with fatty foods such as dairy, fish, or other supplements.

SPICE THINGS UP:Cinnamon is an ace at lowering blood sugar levels. Cinnamon is rich in polyphenols and this sweet spice helps insulin do its job more effectively. Go ahead and sprinkle some into your hot or cold cereal, shake, or pancake.
