Dear Friends and Neighbors,
March came in and out in a heartbeat, as what seems to be the case more and more often. The month was highlighted by the extraordinary experience we have at St. Andrews known as Color War. This year’s active participants numbered in excess 220 and the Club was alive in all of its aspects: Bridge, Canasta, Tennis, Golf, Fitness, Kids Events, Field Activities, Team Song competition and our legendary Tug-of-War. This year’s victor was either the Red or the Black team, I can’t recall which - which really does not matter. What does matter is the extraordinary Club spirit which resounds loudly throughout our campus. There are simply too many people to thank individually for what has grown to be a seminal event of our calendar.
In addition, the month of March gave us two outstanding events which readily come to mind: the Men’s Classic Golf Tournament and the Tennis Doubles Pro Exhibition. The Bryan Bros. had the guts to challenge Aaron Krickstein & Jimmy Arias for the viewing pleasure of the St. Andrews members. It was a great night and needless to say, Aaron acquitted himself beyond reproach. The Classic came to a rousing finale overseen by over 180 members at the final hole; it was a great day for our Club.
The Club Improvement Plan continues to move forward; at this point we are awaiting issuance of permits for the construction of our 11,000 square foot Spa facilities. We expect receiving that approval by the end of April, allowing us to commence construction after receipt.
In respect to the Grille at Lakeside, we have turned a corner and based upon current diner reviews we are moving in the right direction.
On the business front, we have sold 22 homes and have six sales pending as of this date, a total of 28 homes which compares favorably to our progress from last year. In respect to budget however, as a result of the lower than expected catered event revenue we fell behind budget as of the end of February, however we did sustain an increase for the month of March, reducing the gap. You should note that our budget provides for a contingency to satisfy interim shortfalls against budget and we are advised by Management that with the contingency and other options available to us we should be back within budget in the near future.
This is the last report that I will be providing with the current Board in place – elections are in process for new members to fill open vacancies. I very much appreciate the time, effort and substantial contributions from exiting Governors Ron Hoffner and Steve Greenwald. I would also like to thank ALL members of the Board who have worked so diligently and intently to discharge responsibilities that they have assumed as Board members – Thank You Governors.
All best,
Steve IrwinPresident, Board of Governors

Dear Members:
I want to wish everyone a wonderful and happy Passover & Easter. We hope you participated in one or many of the planned activities and events. The 5th Annual Color War was once again a tremendous three-day event enjoyed by all the participants and spectators. Thanks to Ron Gallatin as the supreme camp leader who continues to throw a great event for members of all ages to enjoy. The Men’s Golf Classic was also a very well attended event and participant’s contributions were donated to the Boca Raton Regional Hospital in the amount of $27,500. All of our shows have been sold out and kudos to the Cultural Arts Committee for help in organizing such fantastic events with our professional staff.
We will begin to break ground on the new Spa building in the next few months. This will not interfere with current Spa services or programming during construction since the new building does not affect the current location. We will be closing off the basketball court and tennis courts xxx and xxx to which the work will commence to the new project. We plan to undertake the work for the new Club’ recreational field as well this summer. Please keep updated on the construction plans via eblasts and the Club website. You will be able to view periodic progress updates on the member private website. We expect to have the work completed on the recreational field by the beginning of the new winter season in November if not sooner. The new spa is expected to take 11-12 months to construct and we anticipate an early fall 2018 opening.
We want to recognize Gary Oreman for his great dedication towards making the Movie Club such a well-attended and interesting activity that many members enjoy. This winter season the movies have been excellent based on the reviews from the movie critics. We have seen our Club very busy with an increase in golf, tennis, fitness, spa, dining and pool usage along with the card rooms. It’s great to see everyone enjoying the Club so much and my gratitude to all of the hard working members who served on the committees this past year and hope that many of you will sign up again next year to help make the Club even better.
On a final note, please be aware that the Spotlight Magazine circulated to all residents of St. Andrews Country Club is NOT affiliated with or endorsed by the Club. This publication is a profit oriented business which derives income by selling advertisements to local business. We do not supply this publication with any written material or photography.
Kind regards,
Craig D. Martin, C.C.M.

What an incredible season it has been thus far. I mentioned in last month’s article the great success of the holiday season and since then we have continued on that path. We completed yet another outstanding year of Color War. It was wonderful to see so many members supporting their respective Black and Red teams and also more importantly one another. An incredible showing of sportsmanship, comradery and above all friendship. These are the events that make St. Andrews Country Club a special place to live. Congratulations to Ron Gallatin and to all our members that participated. Another special time during the season is when we host our member/guest events at the Club. Kicking off with our Ladies’ member guest card party which had an outstanding attendance to our Golf men’s and ladies’ member guest events as well as our Tennis member guest events, all of which have received
rave reviews. I would like to extend a BIG congratulations to all involved. Thank you to the various chairs and committee members for all your hard work, time and dedication and to all the members and their guests that attended these incredible events. Without all of you none of it would be possible.I would also like to thank and congratulate the various departments involved in making these events such a success. From Golf to Tennis to Catering, Cards and Bridge to Food and Beverage, well done to our wonderful team of dedicated staff. Thank you for all the pride and care that you take in providing our membership with a first class experience. As we close out the season we will be hosting our Spring Social. One last time for our members to come together and celebrate all that is special about being part of the St. Andrews family and community. We hope to see you there. As always, I look forward to seeing around the Club.

Passover Seder
5St. Andrews Style • April 2017 5
We are looking forward to the upcoming Holidays; which include, Passover Seder Dinner on Monday, April 10 and Tuesday, April 11, along with Easter Brunch & Easter Dinner Buffet on Sunday, April 16. We encourage everyone to make reservations as soon as possible. Please remember to review the Dress Codes for these events in your social calendar, and remind any guests that you are inviting. If you do not plan to join us for this holiday, please stop by and pick up a Take-Out Order form at the Front Desk or online under the “Dining” section. It would be our pleasure to help you with the cooking! In March, we launched our new Lakeside menu
that features expanded healthy choices, more pizza, pasta, burger and taco selections, surf & turf and much more! The look of the menu has completely changed and we introduced a new menu book. Thank you again to everyone who provided feedback and/or completed the 2017 Dining Survey. It has helped us create the “Best of the Best” casual restaurant atmosphere. Whoo, it is surprising how fast this season is going! Our Food & Beverage Managers are currently planning for summer dining events and activities to keep you busy all summer long. Lastly, mark your calendar for this seasons Spring Social Event “Dancing in the Moonlight” with Party on the Moon being held on Saturday, April 22. This is an event you do not want to miss!

March kicked off with the crowning of the new 2017 Husband & Wife Club Champions. Randy & Sue Katz fired the low with a gross 80 to capture the crown for the first time. Other fight winners included Wendy & Bob Kohansky, Elaine & Barry Krell, and Arlene & Richard Naids. Congratulations to all our 2017 Champions.
The 23rd Annual “Men’s Golf Classic” was next on the schedule. Captain Ira Pardo led the team of Jerry Levitt, Mort Finkelstein, Bill henry, & harvey Blatt into this year’s winners circle with a two day total of 20 under par, which ties the lowest total ever for this event. The team sat in 3rd place after day one but Sunday fired a 10 ½ under par which tied for the low Sunday round and was enough to hold off Team Nestler and Team Morris who both finished 2nd at 18 under par.
Next up was the annual Ladies’ Member-Guest event on March 16. Tournament Chairs Robin Milich & Amy Ross put on an incredible day and turned St. Andrews in a “Partee in Capri.” The event was again a complete sell out and the entire day was magnificent as you felt like you were on vacation in Capri.
Then came the 5th Annual Color War event! Color War is like being a kid again at camp st. Andrews. This spectacular 3-day event had more than 300 members participating in card games, tennis, fitness, and golf activities throughout the weekend. Then it moved to the driving for more camp activities and concluded with a party at the Pool. Thanks to Ron Gallatin for all the work he put into making this one of the premier club events each year.
The month ended with the magnificent Men’s 1- day Member-Guest. This year more than 200 member & their guests enjoyed this final four themed event filled with Chef’s amazing food throughout the entire day, golf, awards and raffles. Thanks to our hosts Errol Cook and Bill Herbstman for putting together this year’s great event.

The recently played St. Andrews Country Club Professional Tennis Exhibition was a resounding success, very much enjoyed by everyone in attendance. This year’s event had a slightly different flavor than past years – a featured doubles match with yours truly and my good friend Jimmy Arias vs. the greatest doubles
team of all time – The Bryan Bros! Unfortunately, we lost the exciting match 10 games to 8, but I thought the quality of tennis was quite good, and of course, Arias’ humor on a point by point basis was hilarious. A special thanks and

great job goes out to our head Pro Dave Provence for his umpiring duties and scorekeeping. Thanks also to our tireless tennis chairperson Wendy Kohansky for all her hard work and support, GM Craig Martin and his staff as well as my own tennis staff for helping to make the event a very memorable evening for our members and their guests.
I have two other recent events to report on: Our annual Men’s Member – Guest tournament. Winners of the Federer Division: David Lomnitz and guest Charles Balmer, Finalists: George Meireles and guest Gary Kay. Nadal Division winners: Jeff Cohen and guest Ken Gatsik, Finalists: Gary Kiman and guest Stuart Fleischer. Congrats to all trophy winners!
Color War weekend was a huge success as attendance from previous years was up over 30%! Jr. Kids Color War was loads of fun for the little ones and the skills competition was a big success as well.
In closing, our Spring Tennis Event is right around the corner (Saturday, April 22) and we hope to see all of our tennis aficionados there to support this great end of the season event. In addition to the round robin tournament, we will once again have a special St. Andrews pro doubles exhibition, featuring your own professional staff. We look forward to seeing you there.
See you on the Courts!

Color War in the Fitness Department was super exciting this year! There were so many great performances from both teams. The names that kept popping up were, Peter Franz, Jody Rice, Marilee Susi, Marcy Franz, Eddie Trieber, and Barbara Newman-Calizo. We have some great athletes here which was evident during the relay races and the tug-of-war. We would like to send a special shout out to harry Debow for stepping in to be anchor of the Black Team when we needed a willing and able body. We continue to tweak the handicap system to make it for fair for all Level One through Level Four athletes. It was a great event this year and special thanks to Jessy Casino Martinez and Nicole Sheaffer our Trainer/Staff Team Captains for their excellence in recruiting all month long and especially for their organization on Sunday. Marilee Susi and Mindy Goldman were great captains and although the Red Team won again this year, Black Team will be really gunning for the Crown next year!

STRESS AND EATINGEating while we are mentally stressed or emotionally wound up usually leads us to
eat much more. It can cause us to choose poorer-quality foods, and leave with symptoms of digestive distress. It is very important to understand no food or diet is healthy if we are stressed when we eat. When we eat under stress our neurological system prepares the body to fight or flee, and one of its functions is to shut down digestion. When this occurs, the stomach produces fewer digestive enzymes, and we excrete nutrients without absorbing them. This causes indigestion, gas, and heartburn. If you have a healthy relationship with food, it will have a healthy relationship with you. here are some tips to keep in mind:

relAX:This might be strange or new for you… but calmly breathe before, during, and after a meal. Oxygen will act like a nutrient in your body, and it’s as powerful as any digestive enzyme you can take.
slow down:Give yourself more time to eat meals, and pay close attention to your pace. If it takes 10 minutes to eat lunch, take 20 minutes, you will feel the difference.
reGulAte your rhythM:Notice when you eat your largest meals. Are you sluggish or energized? Figure out a rhythm that works for you, and adjust it so it works!
notice results:Pay close attention to how you feel after consuming certain foods or combination of these or other foods. Do you feel melancholic? Tired? Strong? Spacey? Try eliminating and adding different foods to see what produces the best results for you.
prioritiZe pleAsure:Enjoying and savoring our food, activates the relaxation response and gives us maximum digestive power. So as you enjoy your meal and you are conscious of it, the better you will feel. Our body is a powerful teacher; so slow down, taste your food, listen to your body, and of course, enjoy the eating process!
