This week in class we learned the practice of using colored lines to make objects. I different colored lines of blue and white to create a 3D shadowy feel and create a bottle. In c
a bottle was set up next to our computer and without constatnly staring at the screen, we hato practice going back and forth with out eyes, instead of completly focusing on the compuscreen. I somewhat trained my hand and eye to draw this object.
For the craft of the assignment, I used a Mac computer, stylist, Adobe Illustrator, an electdrawing pad, a light and wine bottle. The whole point of this assignemtn wasnt necisarraly tdraw the object, but to practice the art of using hues and variations in the colors to create sows with the object. I blacked out the background to create an outer space feeling and to mlook like there was nothin there other then the object.
The composition of this artwork draws my eyes all over the place. My eyes immediatly gthe bottle with the multiple colors of blue. The drawing on the right is just so dull and boringand the one on the left is unnished, therefore it makes me think about what more could I ha
done to nish it. Everytime I looked at the vessel, I found something new, a new shade, a necolor to add, some little detail that I wanted to inclue into my artwork.
The entire concept of the assignemtn wasnt to make sure the artwork looked like a bottit was too train my hands and eyes to work with each other, rather then against. It was also to
up on the idea of hues and shadows, I needed to train my eyes to pick up on such things,

LINES, LINES, LINES....-AND OH YEAH... MORE LINES!!!
In class, we had to nd objects to draw only using
100 lines of any direction, some would say Oh thats
easy, but I dare anyone to draw at least 5 objects and
see how easy they nd this task to be. Some people lost
count, some people used less than 100 lines and some
people used more then 100 lines... shhh. But nevertheless,
we survived and created 100 line drawings of random
objects.

Even though this is not a drawing
of anything, like the others, this drawing
reminds me of the Jackson Pollock picture
that I took while on the tour at the Art Insti-
tute. This picture was not created with any
rhyme or reason, but it is still considered tobe art. Art is something that is created by
an individual, it doesn;t have to be pretty or
make any sense, its just called art.

A Trip to the Art Institute ona Saturday morning...
Art by. Jackson Pollock
Pick a piece of art thatyou would consider tobe your masterpiece
I chose this picture to be my masterpiece
because after everything I saw today at the
institute, this was the only picture that stood
out to me. I like this picture because it is so
unconventional and different. Every other
piece of art was a person, or something and
the beauty to me of this kind of art, is, you
could look at this piece all day and you willnever be able to make something of it. Why?
Because there was no intention behind this
painting in my own opinion. This speaks to
everyone in different ways and you either love
it, or you hate it.

Sail Away toParadise
I was standing on the shore line, with the waves
splashing at my legs and my toes in the sand. At this verymoment I was at complete peace. I was in my paradise, gazing out at the setting sun and these two beautiful sail-boats that were drifting along the horizon, with the one inthe far background looking like it might fall of the edge of
the earth. Even though I was exhausted from my eventfulweekend at Disney World and dreading getting back ona plane to go home and returning back to reality at home, there was nothing that could happen to me in that mo-ment that could have ruined my day because I was in my
paradise. Even though I had to get back on a plane andcome back to Illinois, I was still at peace, and every time Ilook at this picture, whether it be looking at the picture thatI have in a frame sitting on my desk or editing the original
into something more or even adding some last little bits ofdetail, I get sucked into my memory of this place and backto my paradise, sailing away.
I created this document on Adobe Illustrator on
a Mac Computer and with a picture I took while I was in
Venice Beach, California. Of course outlining every pieceof detail in the picture would have been impossible andextremely time consuming, but I feel that the artwork onthere, does this picture justice. It creates an illusion; the
darker parts on the sand and ocean create a wonder, makes you wonder about what actually is in the deepblues of the ocean. I created the different blues for thewaves and the different browns on the shore using the eye-
dropper tool, carefully selecting the correct color to do thatdetail justice and to capture the beauty that this pictureholds.
When I look at this picture, I know what Im looking
at and my eyes are drawn right to the sailboats, then theocean water and of course the shore. Every time I look atthis picture, I notice something different, and feel some-thing different as well. This picture makes me want to getback on a plane and go back to Venice Beach, Califor-
nia and sit there for a while and run the sand through myhands. It is something amazing when a piece of art canmake you overwhelmed with emotions and memories. Thispicture lights a spark in my mind and opens a ood gate
of memories and emotions. As I said before, the blues ofthe waves makes me wonder what is under those waves;the ocean is a mysterious place, lled with millions of un-
knowns and sunken treasures, lost away at sea.
The whole concept of this project was to nd a pic-ture of our own creation and outline bits of detail to makethis picture come alive using bits of color from the photo-graph. This project captured my imagination, especially
when creating the variations. I would also say, anothergoal of this assignment, was to make you feel somethingwhen you look at this picture. This picture may hold memo-ries for me because I was there, but when I asked myfriend sitting next to me, how she felt when she looked at
this picture, she said it made her want to go to the beachand play in the water and sand and get a tan.
Every picture, every snapshot, holds a mefor someone. The beauty of a photograph is, the o
scene can change, but the photograph and memolast a life time. Once the ash on the camera goes piece of history is sketched into time and can brinback to a new place.

Another Day InParadise
This is one of my favorite
variations that I have created
of my nal sailboat piece. It
reminds me of a sunny day at
the beach, and again I am still
in my own little paradise.

Learning the ropes of Adobe Illustrator andthe Stylus
This picture was from the beginning ofit all. From the rst few days of class, to the very end,
Adobe Illustrator played a major role in this Comput-
er Graphics class. The red and the black clash together,
making it very hard to f ocus and decide what our eyes
would like to look at. At every second my eye is tore
from one end of the page, t o the other.

Abstract ArtI would have to say that one of the fun parts
of creating some of our art projects, was messing
around with the different variation features. I must
have spent at least ve minutes per photo just look-
ing at the different options that I could to do
really make this artwork pop. In this picture, this
is a picture of two cups of different size, shape and
position, but with this feature, all of that does not
really matter. This picture looks complicated and I
like complicated.

This Wine Bottle HasMy Name Written AllOver It...
Most of the time i n class, we never
took the time to open a fresh new
document to start a whole new project. We usually just kept on using the same
background that we were using before.
I nd this art to be humerous because
it litterally is a wine bottle with my
name all over it.

All About Me Hello, my name is Sara Stevens. I currently attend Saint
Xavier University and I am a Biology Pre-Vet/ Pre-Med major.
I aspire to become a large animal exotic veterinarian, but if all
else fails, becoming a doctor is also just as aspiring. This will
be my third year here at Saint Xavier, making me a junior in
college.
When I was younger I used to draw a lot, I had a lot of
sketchbooks lled with random doodles and drawings. I also
took a couple art classes in junior high, they included painting
and sketching. I also love photography. I have a passion for
animals, so a lot of my photography has a lot of animals and
nature in it. Whenever I see something that is interesting or
breathtaking, I will pull out my camera and snap a picture of it
and add it to my collage on my wall.
