Little did I realise that we are more than halfway through the year, till I reflected on the SSGS activities that have taken place in the past six months. Firstly, I would like to thank all our members for your overwhelming support in re-electing me as President for yet another term during our 50 th Annual General Meeting held in May. Committee, without which we would not have been able to participate in such fulfilling activities for all SSGS members. On this note, I would like to, on behalf of the committee, express our heartfelt appreciation towards Captain Mr Terence Ng and Committee Member Mr Lee Kuen Yip for their past contributions. The time and efforts that they have committed during the term have contributed immensely to the work that SSGS has been able to provide for members. At the same time, we are happy to welcome Mr Peter Koh as our Captain, Mr Andrew Ng as Honorary Secretary, and Mr Daniel Lo Hock Peng as Committee Member for the new term. With different perspectives and fresh ideas, we hope that the new committee members will bring to the table more exciting events and activities for all members. Moving forward, it is my pleasure to announce that we will be celebrating SSGS’ 50 th Anniversary Golf Championship on 19 September at SICC! We are currently putting together a special souvenir magazine as tribute to meaningful times spent as a Society through the years. I hope that with our combined efforts, we will create more and greater memorable moments together as SGSS continues to grow and prosper. See you on 19 September, and in the meanwhile, happy golfing as always! SSGS News JULY 2018 SINGAPORE SENIOR GOLFERS’ SOCIETY 151 Chin Swee Road #03-33A Manhattan House, Singapore 169876. One of our all-time favourite golfing destinations - Bangkok!

This year, the Inter-port Friendly Tournament with Thailand SeniorGolfers’ Association (TSGA) was held at the Khao Cha Ngok GolfClub in Bangkok on 30 Jan 2018. This annual event has traditionallybeen one of SGSS’ popular events and this year was no exception, with thirty seven members participated in the 6D5N trip.

Upon arrival, the team members headed for the Royal Gems CityGolf Club, an exclusive private club known for its beautiful andchallenging course, for their first round of golf. At night, themembers enjoyed a delicious local dinner hosted by Golf Hub atJe Dam Pochana Restaurant, before checking into Juntra ResortHotel.

After a good night’s rest, the members were ready to battle! Theystarted the day early at Khao Cha Ngok Golf Club and put in theirbest efforts. Despite the members winning 4 games and settlingfor 3 draws, the skilful Thais managed to win 9 games, emergingvictorious.

TSGA hosted a wonderful lunch at the club house, with prizepresentation and exchange of souvenirs, complete with singingand dancing which all the members thoroughly enjoyed. Afterchecking in at Courtyard by Marriot, they proceeded to a famousChinatown Teochew restaurant – Tang Jai Yoo Restaurant for asumptuous dinner of suckling pig, steamed eel and oyster omelette.Captain Terence Ng also bought beer to celebrate the win by the4 teams against the Thais.

The most memorable game was played at Nikanti Golf Club. Thefacilities were excellent, complete with charming, well-maintainedand challenging course. Our member, Mr Choo Chiau Beng, whowas accompanied by the Captain, scored a Hole-in-One at Hole14. Dinner was hosted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand andheld at Laem Charoen Restaurant where Mr Choo also celebratedhis achievement .

SGSS rounded up the trip with their fourth and final game at theGreen Valley Golf Club, which was a convenient 30 minutes awayfrom the airport. Members thoroughly enjoyed the well-organisedtrip, with special thanks to Captain and Vice-Captain for theirexceptional efforts. It was an exciting trip, particularly for Mr Choo, who achieved his first hole-in-one during his first SGSS golf trip.We hope to have more of such amazing experiences for ourmembers in future trips!

SGSS had the honour of hosting the 35thConfederation of ASEAN Senior Golfers’Association (CASGA) IGM meeting. • Firstly, I would like to thank the SSGS members forelecting me. I count it my privilege and honour to beelected as your captain. I know that my duty is to serveSSGS members, and that this position comes with greatchallenges and responsibilities.

Currently, I am serving as a member of the SICC GeneralCommittee chairing the Lifestyle Sub-Committee. I hope that myexperiences from this position will help me to better serve the membersof SSGS.

Moving forward, I plan to reactivate friendly golf games to strengthenour relationships with fellow CASGA (Confederation of ASEAN SeniorGolfers' Association) members. If the opportunity arises, I would alsolike to organise golf trips to Myanmar and Vietnam. This will hopefullyencourage the senior golfers in these countries to join CASGA.

This year's 50th Annual General Meeting was held atSICC after the Gold Medal/May Golf Tournament, wherea record 128 players participated. It was a fun-filledevening and members were treated to a scrumptiousAsian buffet, with entertainment provided by the MusicMix band.

The newly elected Captain, Mr Peter Koh, gave a welcomespeech and highlighted the forthcoming events from Juneto December and thanked members for their support atall the golf outings. His speech was followed by the prizepresentation and Grand Lucky Draw for the remaining118 members present.

From what I know, there are SSGS members without clubmemberships. For these members, I will explore ways tohelp them maintain their handicap. I would also like to providebetter benefits to our members through negotiation withmore golf clubs in Singapore so our SSGS members areable to enjoy special discounts when playing during off-peakperiods. As always, I will strive to organise more socialactivities for leisure and encourage more bonding amongstmembers.

I look forward to serving each and every one of you. Thankyou for your continuing support for SSGS, and I hope to seeour members actively participating in our future activitiesand events!
