Description: 2-7/8” SSD Hydraulic DisconnectThe 2-7/8” SSD Hydraulic Disconnect is the most important piece of equipment that is placed on the coil tubing tool string. This piece of equipment is essential in releasing the coil tubing from the tool string if the string has become stuck while in the wellbore. The Hydraulic Disconnect is designed to achieve this requirement, but is also designed to give the ultimate resistance in tension and torsion stresses that occur while jarring or milling.

OPERATION:If it becomes necessary to disconnect, a ball is pumped to the Disconnect, then an increase in pump pressure allows the piston to shift, shearing the brass shear screws and allowing the Mandrel to move out from under the Collet. After a drop in the pump pressure, retrieval from the stuck string is possible. The Body and Bottom Sub are the only parts that are left in the hole and it has an internal “GS” fishing neck for future fishing procedures.

3.0 Assembly Instructions

Check all items against the parts list to be sure of the correct parts and quantities.

Warning: The function of this tool before and after operation requires the use of pressure applied from the surface and already present in the well. It is very important to understand the assembly and disassembly instruction thoroughly. Failure to follow these instructions could result in tool failure or injury from trapped pressure.

Warning: Always wear PPE during assembly and disassembly of the SSD Hydraulic Disconnect.

Warning: The ball must be no smaller than 13/16” in diameter and no larger than 1” in diameter.

3.1 General Operation:

1. The SSD Hydraulic Disconnect is held together in the well by the large diameter end of the Mandrel resting against the inside of the Collet.

2. At the top of the SSD Hydraulic Disconnect there is a Piston that is attached to the Mandrel, on each end of the Piston is an O-Ring seal.

3. The Mandrel is kept in place by as many as eight Shear Screws that are screwed through the Collet and into the Mandrel Groove. Each Shear Screw has an average shear strength of 676 psi.

4. The Screws are designed to shear when an adequate amount of pressure is applied down the tubing onto the top of the Piston when a Ball is first pumped down to seat on top of the Piston.

5. The Collet is captured by an undercut in the Housing that prevents it from moving while the Mandrel is in place.

6. The Top Sub and the Body both have a spline that when assembled and engaged, prevents the SSD Hydraulic Disconnect parts from rotating, one inside the other.

7. Annular pressure is allowed to enter the area between the O-Rings, this design feature keeps the tool pressure balanced so that the only pressure required functioning the SSD Hydraulic Disconnect is applied pressure in the Tubing.

3.2 Pre-Assembly:

Warning: Make sure all tool parts and components have been Thoroughly cleaned or serious damage and/or injury could occur!

Note: Verify that the correct O-ring redress kit and quantities are used as specified on the Bill of Materials (for example, 5 each etc.…). Lay out all redress kit components on a clean surface.

Note: Visually inspect all parts for damage or wear. Thread parts together without the O-rings to check fit. Repair or replace damaged parts.

Caution: Always file wrench marks or burrs and clean off debris!

3.3 Assembly:

1. Apply a thin layer of grease on the OD and ID of the Mandrel (5), slide the Collet (3) over the Mandrel (5) till screw holes line up with groove in Mandrel (5). Install number of desired Shear Screws (6) determined by shear value. If not running all eight Shear Screws (6), space the screws equally around the Mandrel (5). Do not tighten the Shear Screws (6) as this will cause the Collet (3) to expand and the tool will not go together.

2. Apply a thin layer of grease on spline section of the Top Sub (1). Apply a thin layer of grease inside of the Top Sub (1). Do not put grease on the threads where the Collet (3) makes up. Install the O-Ring (11) inside of the Body (2). Mate the Top Sub (1) and the Body (2) together. This may require the use of a rubber mallet. There should be no gap between the shoulders of the two pieces.

3. Lock the Top Sub (1) into a vice. Apply a single layer of Teflon tape covering the entire thread section of the Collet (3) beginning at the thread end going clockwise just as you would thread a nut onto the Collet. Insert the Mandrel (5) and the Collet (3) into the Body (2) and Top Sub (1). Use the collet wrench to make up the Collet (3) to the Top Sub (1). Torque value should be 50 - 60 ft/lbs.

4. Insert the two O-Rings (10) into the two O-Ring grooves on the Piston (4). Coat the ID and OD of the Piston (4) with a thin coat of grease. Insert the Piston (4) into the Top Sub (1) with the thread box 1st into the tool. Lightly tap the Piston (4) down into the tool until it mates up with the Mandrel (5). Make up the Piston (4) to the Mandrel (5) using wrenches and 1-1/8” sockets on the Piston (4) and the Mandrel (5). Torque value should be 65 ft/lbs., for 2-7/8” and 3-1/8” tools.

5. Insert O-Ring (7) into the bottom of the Body (2) until it contacts the collet (3). Install the O-Ring (11) into the O-Ring groove on the acme thread side of the Bottom Sub (8). If bottom thread on the sub is 2.375” PAC DSI, put O-Ring (9) into O-Ring groove. Apply a thin coat of grease in the ID and on the ACME threads of the Bottom Sub (8). Make up Bottom Sub (8) to the Body (2) to recommended make up torque:

Bottom Sub to Body: 1,400 ft/lbs., 2-7/8” SSD Hydraulic Disconnect.

Bottom Sub to Body: 1,950 ft/lbs., 3-1/8” SSD Hydraulic Disconnect

To disassemble tool, reverse assembly procedure.
