Fatima Colleges cricket teams have done it again in the Secondary Schools Cricket Leagues (SSCL) North under-15 knockout final in St Clair on June 2nd, and on June 9th for the North under-17 title as well. Having defeated both St. Marys College and St. Anthonys College, our Fatima boys are keeping the flame of Fatima burning on the cricket field.

This was disclosed by secretary of the Secondary Schools Cricket Council (SSCC), Sharaz Mohammed at the launch of the PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket league yesterday, at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Balmain, Couva.

Competition in the new season which is being sponsored by PowerGen for the 15th consecutive year, opens on January 18 with the 50 overs tournament. This tournament will also carry a new bonus points system. Francois Ottley3 communications officer at PowerGen explained that PowerGen has enjoyed their relationship with Secondary Schools cricket for the past 14 years and they are here to stay. We have been supporting schools cricket for the past 14 years and we are here to stay. I would like to ask you students to find that balance between academics and cricket and make sure not to neglect your studies. Keep on trying to do your best in all that you do and the rewards will come.

2012Lara cracks 138 in Powergen school leagueBatsman Savion Lara, the cousin of West Indies stars Dwayne and Darren Bravo and family of former West Indies captain Brian Lara, scored a massive 138 to rally Barataria South Secondary to a 179-run thrashing of San Fernando Central Government School. Laras showed his batting prowess in the Championship Division of the Powergen Secondary Schools Cricket League at the Aranguez Sports Ground on Tuesday. Laras knock propelled Barataria to an imposing 265 for six batting first with Shaquille Johnson also chipping in with 40. Stefan Lochan managed to keep the opposition batsmen at bay, taking two for 37 in 10 overs.

Lara leads Barataria into SSCL T20 final

Savion Lara was the star for Barataria South Secondary yesterday, leading his team to a seven-wicket victory over recently promoted Trinity East College in the semi-finals of the PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) Daren Ganga T20 InterCol Tournament. The top bowlers for Barataria were Savion Lara 2-17, Shaquille Johnson 3-11 and Kion Webster 2-16. When Barataria batted, Lara and Webster shared a partnership of 35 runs, leading their team home at 88/3. 2012

Recently crowned Super Sixes joint champions Fatima College and Hillview College will be in action today when Fatima takes on Presentation College on Fatima Grounds and Hillview visits Princes Town West Sec in the opening of the 2012 Secondary School Cricket League Premiership Division. In the 1st semi final Fatima defeated Carapichaima East Secondary without difficulty. The 2nd semifinal was more keenly contested as Hillview College got past Presentation College. The finals was reduced to four overs and defending champions Hillview College made a challenging 60/2 batting first in their allotted four overs. When the umpires called off play due to bad light, Fatima was batting 29/1 with Joshua Ramdoo making 14 runs after 1.5 overs.
