It gives me immense pleasure that the "Sashatra SeemaBat" (SSB) is celebrating its 47ttt Anniversary on 20th December,2010.

In the wake of China - India conflict, SSB was set up in1963 to inculcate a spirit of nationalism in border population andprepare them for exigencies on the border. SSB was latermandated to shoulder the responsibility of guarding Indo - Nepaland Indo - Bhutan borders. The Force has since evolved into afull-fledged paramilitary force with its own Act and Rules.

The challenges on the open, porous and friendly bordersare much more than on the inimical borders' SSB has not onlythe responsibility of effectively guarding the border but alsoensuring that people of countries across the border also havegood relation with India in accordance with our age oldfriendship treaties. SSB is carrying out its mandated duties veryeffrciently and effectively. Keeping in view the sensitivity of theresponsibilities, 32 additional battalions have been sanctionedfor SSB. I am sure this will further enhance the capabilities ofthe Force.
