    Application

The SRX-Q... relays are intended for use inprotection, sequence and signaling systems oflocomotives. The relay is suitable for severeelectrical, mechanical and environmental require-ments of railways.

Design and principleThe time lag relay type SRX-Q... has the PC8 relay ofproven design as its basic building block and outputelement. The relay is dc voltage operated and isfactory set for fixed time delay. The time delay sett-ing can be changed by adjusting the internalpotentiometer R13on the PCB assembly. For true

operation, voltage shall continuously be connectedto terminals 16 and b (fig. 1). The relay picks-upwhen 110 V dc is extended to terminal a by means ofa closed external initiating contact. When theinitiating contact is opened, measurement of timestarts. The relay operates (drops-out) aftercompletion of the set time delay, provided thatvoltage is continuously applied to terminals 16andb.Whenever the voltage supply is interrupted, the relayresets. At the time of applying voltage, if initiating

contact is open, output element remains in resetcondition. The relay has one dual color LED, whichglows green or red for indication of pick-up and drop-out conditions respectively.

The auxiliary relay type PC8 is an instantaneous,plunger-type relay with heavy duty doubleinterruption contacts. Six output contacts are madeavailable in SRX-Q... relay.

The low pick-up value of the PC8 relay (approx. 50%

of rated) along with movement of 3 mm and thestrong restoring springs ensure that the holding forceon the plunger is sufficiently large, both, in picked-upand dropped-off conditions. The strong holding forcein-turn ensures operational reliability in conditions ofvibration and shock expected in railway vehicles. The contacts are made of silver-palladium alloy andare gold plated. The special contact metallurgyassures contact life (electrical & mechanicaldurability) in severe environmental conditionsexpected in railway vehicles. The contacts have lowresistance and unlike pure silver contacts, they canwithstand noxious effects of tropical conditions and

are free from sulfur attacks. This feature makes therelays suitable for higher switching rates.

A transparent protective hood of polycarbonatematerial, that does not burn easily, provides goodprotection against dust to PC8 element. The plug-inmounting method is ideal for installation andservicing. Guide pins prevent the relay from beingplugged in the wrong way round. The marking of theterminals on the base agrees with that of the relaycontacts.
