“Caught by grace” – the life of Peter will

be the topic throughout the weekend.

The speaker for the Spring Retreat is

Peter – Caught by grace......to become a fisher of men.

There are several stories of how Peter was ‘called’ by Jesus: “come, follow me,and I will make you fishers of men” to two fishing brothers. (Matthew 4:18,Mark 1:17). Luke combines this with a miraculous catch of fish, and Peters’realization of his owns sinfulness (Luke 5:1-11), while John links the callingwith renaming Simon to Peter, from ‘reed’ to ‘rock’. Calling to follow, calling bya new name…Have you ever been ‘called’ in one of these senses? To follow Jesus, to aspecial task, to a journey to a new place, by being given a name?Often when we refer to our ‘calling’ we refer to what we are called to do, whatkind of ministry we feel called to. Do you sense such a thing as having acalling… or are you open to such a calling?

A man between extremes…

His change of names seems to imply big changes... from Simon (“reed” or “onewho has heard”) to Peter (rock)...From someone who has Godly inspiration when He recognizes Jesus as theMessiah, to what seems to be a channel of satanic inspiration when heexpects Jesus to be the messiah that Peter envisions the Messiah to be…(Matthew 16:23) and then to one of the inspired authors of scripture…From someone who says that he will never leave Jesus, and turns to violenceat the arrest of Jesus, willing to stand up to an armed mob, to someone whodenies Jesus when a slave girl asks him whether he was with Jesus… and thento a man who can stand up to a crowd and preach to them... and even acceptsuffering and death as a consequence of his faith... and write “if you shouldsuffer for what is right, you are blessed” 1Peter 3:14) and “rejoice that youparticipate in the sufferings of Christ” (1Peter 4:13)But also from someone who leads the way in accepting heathen into thecommunity of believers, to someone who refuses to eat with him as he isafraid for his fellow Jews… (Acts 10 / Galatians 2:11-14) And after having beenrebuked by Paul, commends Paul’s’ letters, by putting them on the same levelas the scriptures (2Peter 3:16)

Have you ever felt that you were suddenly weak in an area that youconsidered strength of yourself? And that God restored and increased thatstrength?

Duty groups

In order to help the catering team, we kindly ask you tohelp us with some simple tasks such as clearing tables,doing the dishes and sweeping the floor. It is also a chanceof communion by serving together.

Duty groups are the same as Family Groups (FG). Pleasetake note of when you are on duty. Duty groups will beresponsible for setting up for meals and cleaning upafterwards. Make sure you are in the Eetzaal 15 minutesbefore meal times to set up and do not leave until all thework is done after the meal. Please take your directionsfrom the catering team and your Family Group leader.

A room where you can pray and intercede for others that are in need. During the whole weekend you will have the possibility to go there to find out more about what is happening around you and some ideas of what to pray for.
