Lord Brahmā, therefore descended to pacify him by granting him a wish. Hiranyakasipu commanded many favourable wishes, which prevented him from being killed by any living entity, inside or outside, neither during the day or at night, nor on the ground or in the sky; that he have sole lordship over all living entities and presiding deities, and acquire all mystic powers. After Brahma had granted him all these requests, Hiranyakasipu swiftly conquered all the planets in the universe, took up residence in the lavish palace of King Indra, and forced the demigods to bow down to his feet. Meanwhile, queen Kayadhu bore him a son, Prahlāda. He was a pure devotee of the Lord and wa s a reservoir of all transcendental qualities. But his father wanted to raise him as a powerful demon. Prahlāda would not bow to his wishes and so Hiranyakashipu became very angry and ordered his son to be killed. Prahlāda was not disturbed by this and instead medi tated on Krsna, who protected him. His father became very disturbed and fearful by this, and so contrived many times to have Prahlāda killed. But Krsna protected him on every occasion. "You say there is a being superior to me," said Hiranyakasipu, "but where is He? If He is present everywhere, then why is He not present in this pillar you see before you? Do you think He is in this pillar?" “Yes,” Prahlāda replied. His father struck the pillar in anger, cracking it. From within the pillar came a half-man, half-lion form never before seen. The Lord’s form was extremely fearsome due to his angry eyes. He proceeded to battle with Hiranyakasipu, until finally at twilight He captured him and placed him on His lap in the doorway. He began ripping apart the demon with his many hands, His eyes fierce and full of anger. He ripped out the intestines and wore them as a garland. Then Lord Nsrimha tore out his heart and threw it aside, and defeated an army of Hiranyakasipu’s followers. By His transcendental cleverness Nsrimhadeva was able to kill Hiranyakasipu without contradicting any of Brahmā’s benedictions. Having been protected by the Lord, Prahlāda offered many prayers in a voice that faltered with love. Śrī Krsna’s Pastimes

Prayers by the Demigods for Lord Krsna in the Womb The demon king, Kamsa, made alliances with all the other demoniac kings of other dynasties. Thus, by his diplomatic policy, Kamsa consolidated the most powerful kingdom of his time, under the protection of Jarāsandha. He made further alliances with such kings as Bānāsura and Bhaumāsura, until he was the strongest. Then he began to behave most inimically toward the Yadu dynasty, into which Krsna was to take His birth. The kings of the Yadu, Bhoja and Andhaka dynasties began to seek shelter in different states. Kamsa broke the solidarity of the dynasties and made his position most solid within the land known as Bhārata-vasa. When Devakī became pregnant for the seventh time, a plenary expansion known as Ananta appeared within her womb. She was joyful and overwhelmed, for she knew Lord Visnu had taken shelter within her womb. She worried that Kamsa would kill her child, as he had done with the previous six, and so Krsna ordered the appearance of Yogamāyā, His internal potency. The Lord informed Yogamāyā “Under the imprisonment of Kamsa are Devakī and Vasudeva, and at the present moment My plenary expansion Śesa is within the womb of Devakī. You can arrange the transfer of Śesa from the womb of Devakī to the womb of Rohinī. After this arrangement, I am personally going to appear in the womb of Devakī with My full potencies. Then I shall appear as the son of Devakī and Vasudeva. And you shall appear as the daughter of Nanda and Yaśodā in Vrndāvana.” Yogamāyā circumambulated the Lord and then appeared within the material world. It was then that she transferred Śesa to the womb of Rohinī. Both Devakī and Rohinī were under her spell known as yoga-nidrā. After this arrangement, Krsna appeared in the mind of Vasudeva like the glowing sun as the Lord of the whole creation, with full inconceivable potencies. It is understood that Krsna situated Himself in the unalloyed heart of Vasudeva and then transferred to the heart of Devakī, and then entered her womb. Devakī’s beauty became illuminated due to Krsna’s appearance. Kamsa recognized the transcendental beauty of his sister, and so concluded that the Supreme Personality of Godhead had taken shelter in her womb. Kamsa became perturbed by this and wondered what to do about Devakī. He knew well that no one can frustrate the purpose of Visnu. Kamsa feared his reputation would be spoiled and his kingdom lost if he were to kill Devakī now. He decided to wait for the inevitable future. Kamsa was so perturbed that he began to think of Krsna in every moment of his life. His mind became so absorbed in Krsna that he could only see Him. At this time Lord Brahmā and Lord Śiva, accompanied by many sages and demigods, invisibly appeared in the house of Kamsa. They began to pray to Lord Krsna. They were very much pleased that He had taken shelter in the womb of Devakī to fulfill his mission. “Our dear lotus-eyed Lord, You are the source of pure goodness. There are many great sages who simply by samādhi, or transcendentally meditating on Your lotus feet and thus being absorbed in Your thought, have easily transformed the great ocean of nescience created by the material nature into no more than the water in a calf’s hoof-print.” They continued to offer prayers and their respectful obeisances unto Lord Krsna in the womb. Devakī was fearful of her brother Kamsa, for he had killed her other children. She was very anxious for Krsna. All the demigods, along with their wives, came to her to encourage her not to fear Kamsa. Krsna was to appear to diminish the burden of the world from demons, and more specifically to protect the interests of the Yadu dynasty. All the demigods worshipped Devakī. After worshipping the transcendental form of the Lord, all the demigods, with Lord Brahmā and Lord Śiva up front, departed for the heavenly planets.

Bhagavad-gītā (BG 15.4) The real form of this tree cannot be perceived in this

world. No one can understand where it ends, where it begins, or

where its foundation is. But with determination one must cut down

this strongly rooted tree with the weapon of detachment. Thereafter,

one must seek that place from which, having gone, one never re-

turns, and there surrender to the Supreme Personality of Godhead,

from whom everything began and from whom everything has ex-

tended since time immemorial.

PURPORT: It is now clearly stated that the real form of this banyan tree

cannot be understood in this material world. Since the root is upwards,

the extension of the real tree is at the other end. When entangled with

the material expansions of the tree, one cannot see how far the tree ex-

tends, nor can one see the beginning of this tree. Yet one has to find out

the cause. “I am the son of my father, my father is the son of such-and-

such a person, etc.” By searching in this way, one comes to Brahma,

who is generated by the Garbhodaka-śāyī Visnu. Finally, in this way,

when one reaches the Supreme Personality of Godhead, that is the end

of research work. One has to search out the origin of this tree, through

the association of persons who are in knowledge of the Supreme Person-

ality of Godhead. Then by understanding one becomes gradually de-

tached from this false reflection of reality, and by knowledge one can

cut off the connection and actually become situated in the real tree.

and great prasadam

“Krishna is dancing, you have seen, similarly our posi-tion is dancing with Krishna and being happy. That is our position. But we have come to this material world to enjoy independently of Krishna. Therefore we have been captured by the illusory energy.”

Chant and be Happy! Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare/ Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

Japa Meditation To meditate with beads, hold them in your right hand between the thumb and middle finger. Gently roll the first bead while chanting the full mahā-mantra. Make sure to pronounce each word clearly. Then go to the next bead and so on until you complete 108 rounds. Don’t chant the Krsna bead. Chanting on beads is helpful as it engages the sense of touch during meditation and helps you to focus on the sound of the mantra.
