AbstrakThe final project is about teaching narrative texts to improve the writingskill of eight grade students of SMP N 37 Semarang. Teaching writing to JuniorHigh School students is a challenging task. It requires a lot of creativity from theteacher.The objectives of the study were to describe how the Pinocchio cartooncan be used as a teaching medium in teaching narrative text, and to find out theextent to which Pinocchio improves the ability of students in writing a narrativetext.The subject of the study is the eight grade students of SMP N 37Semarang in the academic year 2008/2009. There were 32 students. The writertook all of them as the subject of the study. The technique used for collecting datais pre- test, post- test and interview. An interview was conducted to understand thestudents’ difficulties in writing a narrative text.The result of the study was that the students’ progress during teachingand learning activities by using narrative film to improve writing was good. Thestudents’ achievement in writing improved. It was supported by the improvementof the result from the pre-test to the post-test. The average scores of the pre-test,first cycle, second cycle and post-test were subsequently 62.875, 72.125, 74.75and 79.35.It is suggested that teachers use cartoon film as an alternative media forteaching narratives.
