THERE HAVE BEEN MANY MOMENTS toremember during our first decade as GrandSquare International. Few have left us with ahigher sense of pride than our recent invitationto become a part of the historic and prestigiousNew England Square Dance FoundationArchives.

While we continue the work of many dedicated and great Americans who haveserved their community and country by way offellowship these last three centuries, it is justnow that we have reached a pinnacle whereour work stands—in some small way currently—among those who have carried the activityacross a wonderful, storied span of time.

Our first thought, is that we hope to haveanother decade which might be as rich andrewarding with friendships and fine peoplewho share our common cause.

Our next thought, was a fair bit more com-plicated. With this new honor, what would weoffer to the New England Square Dance

Foundation Archives that would be an appropri-ate and rise to the occasion of such an honor?

Our decision was a new archive book wetitled simply “10 - The First Decade”. This vol-ume outlines our humble beginnings and treksalongside us as we face challenges, failure andsuccess. Creating “10” has provided us with anintrospective on our efforts. We’re hoping it willbe illustrative for the reader and in some smallway inspire current or future generations ofindividuals to lead organizations small or largein their charge to preserve square dancing.

We thank all involved for recognizing thateach of us at GSI have made a notable differ-ence in our charge.

Would you like to review “10”? Editions will be available for review at our offices andwe will be glad to share it with you personally at GSIEvents or wherever GSI attends.

Grand Square International is a Charlotte, North Carolina based 501 (c) 3 non-profit company, which began with the charge of“Preserving and Protecting, the Great American Heritage of SquareDancing” a decade ago. We’ve accomplished a lot in those tenshort years. Here’s a short list of some of the initiatives:
