SPSS 23 Teaching & Research Installation Guide (for Windows)

Updated: 6/29/15 This instruction is written based on SPSS 23, with Windows 7 64-‐bits. SPSS 22 is still offered on the hub; however, we strongly recommend all users upgrade to the latest version. This instruction should be applicable on Windows 32-‐bits as well (with minor differences).

1. You should then be directed to receipt screen. Click “Start Download” (highlighted by the red rectangle) to download the installation wizard; keep this page open so that you could refer to the activation code (underlined) during the installation process.



2. Click “Download” to begin.

3. Once download is finished, navigate to your “download” (or other specified) folder. Right click on the zipped file and choose “Extract all…”.



4. Select a destination to extract your files.

5. Navigate to your new destination (with all files extracted) and double-‐click the item with name “IBM SPSS Statistics 23”.



6. Click “Run” if the following warning box pops up.

7. Click “next” to begin.



8. On the popup screen, select “Authorized user license” and click “Next”.

9. Accept the license agreement and continue.



10. Type your username (preferably UVa computing ID) and use “University of Virginia” as your organization.

11. Select additional help language, if needed.



12. If you need JAWS for windows screen reading enabled for SPSS, click “Yes”.

Otherwise select “No” and continue.

13. Install Python Essentials if your computer hasn’t installed Python support. Then click “Next”.



14. You’re allowed to customize the installation path; if not specified, SPSS will be installed at default location.

15. Click “Install” to begin the process.



16. The wizard should start installing with a green bar showing current progress.

17. Once installation completes, the wizard will ask for active license. Select the box if you would like to register for product update; otherwise click “Done”.



18. The wizard might ask you to restart now. Select the option that suits you

most.

19. In your “Start” menu, search for SPSS to manually activate the licensing

wizard (already highlighted in screenshot below).



20. If you have multiple versions of SPSS installed, the licensing guide will ask you which product you would like to license for today. Check to see if it is “SPSS 23”, then click “Next”.

21. Select “License my product now” and click “Next”.



22. Copy and paste the activation key on the receipt screen (refer to step 1 here).

Click “Next” to allow the wizard to communicate with IBM server.

23. Once authorization is done, you should see the following screen with green checkmark. Click “Next” to continue.



24. Click “Finish” to exit the installation guide. SPSS 23 T&R for windows has

been successfully installed on your computer.
