Spring is the time for new birth & new beginnings. After a cold, rainy winter indoors, take advantage of the longer,

sunnier days of spring by revisiting those New Year’s Resolutions. Whether that means mental cleansing, health and fitness, or relaxation therapy, massage is a simple but effective aid.

“Massage therapy helps workout efficiency by reducing pain, prevents injury and shortens recovery time between workouts”, says Colin Lewis, personal trainer and owner of Empowerment Fitness.

Massage helps you maintain a balanced state of mind. Reducing stress can help reduce anxiety levels, manage anger, and help you sleep better. It has been clinically proven to help fight depression, release tension, and improve digestion.

Spring presents the opportunity to start fresh. Get your fresh start today. Visit Elements Massage. 200 Bon Air Center (415) 526-3461.

Honey is a good source of antioxidants and is known to have antibacterial and antifungal properties. It has a long medicinal history from the ancient Greeks to modern home remedies such as a spoonful to soothe a sore throat or as an alternative to cough syrup. And while popular culinary use calls for it as a spread on toast or an addition to tea, honey is a versatile ingredient that livens up a variety of dishes from sweet to savory.

Try some of these tasty tips: • Snack: Toss thinly sliced sweet potatoes with honey and ghee (clarified butter).

Arrange on a lightly oiled cookie sheet and bake at

400°F on each side for approximately 5 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with cinnamon, salt and pepper. (Recipe courtesy of the National Honey Board.)

• Sauce: Combine honey and olive oil and mix with root vegetables such as carrots, sweet potatoes, parsnips or turnips and roast in the oven for a delicious side dish.

The sun is shining and sunlight requires the right eyewear, luckily there are many exciting sunglass trends for spring. If you have enjoyed oversized eyewear the last few seasons, continue rocking that look throughout 2017! Statement sunglasses are all the rage; everything from funky colors and shapes, to thick rims and totally see-through designs.

Aviator sunglasses remain classic; there are no signs of them disappearing anytime soon. Cat eyes also continues to be a top eyewear trend; both big and small, with half rims or full. They are just so flattering. While cat eyes and aviators dominate the

runway, circular frames remain popular, with lenses that appear either double-rimmed or without. Lastly there is plenty of focus on glittery and sparkly sunglasses; some-times subtle, but often not so. Look for shiny, glittery and entirely blinged out frames for spring—too fun to pass up. Baseball team parties or school galas, spring time often means fundraising season. Looking for a great spot to host that team party or raise funds for your cause? Check out Patxi’s, a wonderful neighborhood spot to share a tasty meal with teammates and friends—and a place which supports the local community year-round.

Patxi’s offers a “52 Weeks of Giving” program. Every week, all year, Patxi’s hosts neighborhood fundraisers for organizations dedicated to serving the community. Sign up your group for a reservation Monday through Wednesday, excluding holidays. At the end of the day, they’ll tally Bon Air’s Patxi’s receipts and donate 10% of the total sales to your organization (excluding alcohol, catering sales, and taxes.) It’s Patxi’s promise to give back to the communities they call home. Sign up today! Visit patxispizza.com/52weeks. Patxi’s. 340 Bon Air Center (415) 526-3889

2017 runway trends boast pretty, edgy, inspiring and totally wearable ideas adaptable for the street. Trend perfect for the Marin woman is the graphic tee shirt. Try vintage slogans, feminine quotes, or subtle prints, paired with a long raw-stone necklace and denim skirt or straight leg jeans, for an energized, dressed down, ideal look for spring.

A favorite this season, rose/floral tops and bomber jackets; feminine no-fuss pieces for the effortless fashion-flower delivery. Style your bomber with a light-weight hoodie and skinny jeans to bring out your chic, flirty and sporty style.

A vogue mood moment is inspired by beautiful flowy tunics with bell sleeves; playful and sophisticated, pretty, and wearable. A tunic silhouette in tops and dresses; belted or billowing is an easy, beautiful piece for your wardrobe. Pair it with Anna Beck Jewelry from Bali and create the perfect look for any outing.

Spring has sprung which means it’s time to lose those winter blahs and reset your routine with clean and healthy nutrition. Eating 3 meals and 2 snacks with protein, fiber plus a little healthy fat will help stave off energy dips and keep you satiated all day. To mask the taste of healthy veggies you just don’t like (like spinach, for example), blend them into a healthy smoothie with fruit and yogurt. You’ll get the benefit of added nutrition with taste and textures you like. Find ways to make sedentary activities mobile. Walk around the room when you’re on the phone or take walking meetings instead of sitting in a conference room. Turn off the TV and devices while you eat. Not only is it good to unplug, but distracted eating like watching TV leads to mindless eating and poor food choices. Visit Jamba Juice and reset with a super blend smoothie. Reset Your Routine This Spring

Natural Spring Colors for Dessert Have you ever tried nature’s offerings for food colorings? It’s a natural and delicious way to cook.

Try beets for red and pink, spinach for green and blueberries for blue. The colors will be less vibrant than with traditional food colorings, costs a bit more and may have a shorter shelf-life, but you will feel better knowing there are no chemical substances. When experimenting on your own, amounts may vary so allow for trial and error. Try this cupcake recipe with some beautiful spring colors.

Red Velvet Cupcakes With Beets and Stevia For 12 Cupcakes

Use organic ingredients wherever possible ¾ c. roasted and pureed beets ½ c. vegetable oil ¼ c. milk mix with 1 tbs plain yogurt ½ tsp. balsamic vinegar 2 eggs ¾ c. flour 1 c. Stevia ½ c. cocoa powder 1 tsp. baking powder ½ tsp. baking soda ¼ tsp. salt

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Mix all dry ingredients and set aside. Add the wet ingredients until uniform. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until combined.

Pour batter into prepared cupcake trays and bake for 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick in the center comes out clean.

Top with your favorite cream cheese frosting.

Don’t feel like baking? You’ll find these and more tempting treats at Victoria Bakery. 292 Bon Air Center (415) 461-3099

Spring 2017 footwear is showing spirited, unique trends; geometric prints and leather cut out designs. This styling adds dimension to the popular ankle-strap styles. These styles pair easily with leggings, capri’s or a flowy dress.

Blues, greens, reds and yellows are the colors trending heavily this season. We’re seeing these colors across brands in shoes and handbags too, which we know truly makes an outfit.

Another trend for both apparel and footwear this spring is “athleisure”– a casual blend of comfortable footwear designed to be suitable both for exercise and everyday wear. The lace-up “Dani” by Phillip Davidson is a great example of how a comfortable walking shoe can be the perfect mate for yoga pants and jeans alike. Check out the new spring colors. This shoe is sure to be one of your favorites!
