Windblown snow can create problems for rural communities, landowners, livestock, and wildlife. Snowdrifts become hazards when they block roads, leading to safety concerns for humans and increased mortality rates for animals. Properly designed and maintained mature shelterbelts can reduce these problems, capturing snow through the winter months and contributing to soil moisture retention in spring.
Shelterbelts can help curb the cost of snow removal by managing snow distribution. Reducing mechanical snow control means less labour and less fuel for operating snow removal equipment. Also, trees store carbon for long periods of time which reduces the amount of carbon dioxide emissions while at the same time providing wildlife habitat.

Creating new opportunities for the region through videoconferencing.
Community Learning Network (CLN), Literacy Alberta(LA), and Volunteer Alberta (VA) are collaborating on the ICCAN project to develop a videoconference network in Alberta.
Funding from Advanced Education and Technology’s Access to the Future Fund makes the project possible.
Business Eciencies
Videoconferencing is a powerful tool for connecting with others without having to travel. By spending less money, time and energy on travel to attend meetings and seminars, valuable
resources can be reallocated to programming and services.
Learning and Professional Development
With videoconferencing, courses and seminars can be attended by more learners. Communities can tap into global learning venues, guest speakers/experts and special expertise.
Videoconferencing has potential for residents of smaller communities. The ability to teach or attend courses, lead seminars, oer new programming options, oer professional
development opportunities and share expertise is enabled across the province.
Virtual Venue for Sharing Ideas
Videoconferencing enables participants to engage in learning and discussions with others around the province, leading to more collaboration and creating more partnerships.
Opportunities for personal growth , lifelong learning , professional development, more ecient business practices, problem-solving and networking grow as access to simple
videoconferencing becomes more widely available.
Expanding videoconference opportunities in our community. Watch for new sites opening soon. For more information about videoconferencing opportunitiescall 780-361-6241 or e-mail at [email protected]
