ENGIE has engaged in a unique 50-year alliance with the city developer to support the ambition of making Springfield a Zero Net Energy city by 2038. Following the 360° City Scan findings which gave holistic insight of the city performance The Journey' project is aiming at establishing development roadmap that would bring Springfield to the exemplary level of Better City, with special focus on locally produced green energy, including hydrogen. The Journey roadmap addresses technology and innovation challenges in integrated way, optimizing performance perspectives of energy, mobility, urban space, buildings. The Journey roadmap is prepared in ‘informed’ way, breaking down the development goals into list of actions & investments, referring to different areas of city performances. ‘Integration’ is a key success factor in addressing the investment priorities. The Zero Net Energy target is addressed by: cross sectorial understanding of energy demands (green mobility, smart buildings, urban fabric supporting sustainable use of resources, supporting digital platform) prediction of city development based on The Alliance ambition, confronted with current trends, embraced opportunities (i.e. BLC Stadium) and performance optimisation goals SERVICES PROVIDED Provided services include: Prospective diagnosis of the city development Guiding formulation of the city vision and ambition Assessment of city energy demand in time horizons Scenarios for achieving Zero Net Energy Development roadmap (The Journey) listing targets, actions and investments in field of Energy, Mobility, Urban & Buildings with links to digital development platform Research by design – urban concept for development of Energy City – a 32 ha precinct showcasing the city development ambition The works have been performed by desktop studies, discussions and workshops with the city developer and ENGIE as potential investor, site visits.
