State Capitol. Built in the late 1830’s, this was the building that not only served as the state house for Illinois, it was also where Abraham Lincoln announced his candidacy for President of the United States in 1858.

The next stop will be the Korean War Museum. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about the first major war to follow WWII

and to recognize those who fought and died from 1950-1953. From there we will walk to Obed and Issac’s Microbrewery and Eatery for lunch. We have tenta-tively scheduled a tour of the brewery after lunch, but with this industry, you never know when the brew master may have things running and on which day, so if a tour is not available we will instead make our way to the State plaza for an afternoon of shopping and touring the plaza. Stores such as Recycled Records will be one of the fun and unique locations you can check out!

Please note that this tour will have a total walking distance of approximately 1.5 miles over the day.

Cost: $35 per person (lunch not included)

Wednesday, April 8, 8:30 am - 4:45 pm Abraham Lincoln Tour

Join us on this amazing tour in which we trace the history of one of the greatest Presidents in American History, Abraham Lincoln. We will start out by taking a bus to visit New Salem, a pivotal part in the life of our

16th President. It was here Lincoln worked as a clerk, started in business, served as the Postmaster and was

eventually elected to the Illinois General Assembly. We will see a stunning recreation of what Lincoln would have experienced during his 6 years in New Salem.

From there we will visit the final resting place of Abraham Lincoln. Then, after lunch at the historic eatery “Cozy Dog Drive In” on Route 66, the bus will head back in to town to visit the Presidential Museum. After touring the Museum we will take a brief five-minute walk and finish our day at the former residence of Abraham Lincoln and his wife, Mary Todd. Here we will get a first hand look at Lincoln’s life, not just as a President, but as a husband, father and neighbor.
