Wednesday, January 8th

President Wacker’s Convocation Address: “It’s Time ”

Academic Affairs Forum: “It’s Time”: Engaged conversation with the Provost

Location: Ballroom, Atwood Memorial Center

Facilitators: President Robbyn Wacker and Dan Gregory, Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs

Huskies Go to War

Presenter: Kayla Stielow

The 1940s continue to be an era dominated by the narrative of the shocking and world changing events of WWII, colored by the stories of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt guiding a motivated country of young men eager to serve, and a homefront ready to contribute and sac-rifice everything necessary to achieve victory for the United States and its Allies in the name of freedom and democracy. Despite these stories of heroic acts and loyal patriotism, which we are all so familiar with, the unfamiliar topics of WWII seem to rest within the stories of the everyday individuals, more specifically the stories that played out on a local level, even the stories that happened right here on our own campus of St. Cloud State. The campus was a much different place in the 1940s and in its own unique way responded to and was proactive about the ongoing war in a number of ways.

Session 1

Living on the Edge: Understanding the Mental Health of Our Students

Presenters: John Eggers, Brent Nielsen & Andria Belisle

Faculty play a pivotal role in student success inside and outside of the classroom. But how can we better understand the “whole person” of the student, particularly in regards to mental health? Our presenters will share trends and insights on the state of student mental health both nationally and here at SCSU, as well as the contextual challenges sur-rounding today’s university students.

Session 2

I Want to Help… But, I’m Not a Therapist

Presenters: John Eggers, Brent Nielsen & Andria Belisle

Faculty are well-equipped to teach, advise and mentor their stu-dents. Luckily, there are many professionals on campus trained to address the personal needs of students that also contribute to academic success. Our panel of experts will be available for a Q & A about avail-able resources, tips you can use in your classroom or office hours, and how to support all learners here at SCSU.
