Dr. Mark Hollingsworth is the Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of South Carolina Aiken, starting this position in July 2016. Prior to coming to USCA, he served as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma (2010-2016) and was Music Department Chair there as well from 2003-2010. He holds degrees in Music from the University of the Pacific, University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of North Texas. He is a clarinetist, saxophonist and Scottish bagpiper. He currently performs with the Aiken Sherriff’s Pipes and Drums.

In Memory of
William A FossMr. Foss was born in Libertyville Illinois, the son of the
late William Wells Foss, a career Army Officer, and Lois Eileen Burdick Foss.
He earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Illinois Wesleyan University, and a Master of
Music degree in Clarinet Performance and Instrumental Conducting at Northwestern University.
Mr. Foss served in the U.S. Army where his military career extended from 1970 to 2002. During this time, he was assigned to the US Military Academy Band, West Point, NY, commissioned a Captain in the USAR, and assigned to The US Army Band (Pershing’s Own) Ft. Myer, VA as Associate Bandmaster.
Mr. Foss was a professional musician, being the Principal Clarinet for the Albany (NY) Symphony. He also performed with the Chicago Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Boston Symphony.
After moving to Aiken, he founded the band program at Aiken Preparatory School, taught at USCA, and performed throughout the CSRA. He was a member of the Savannah River Winds, co-founder of the Southern Nights Dance Band, and a member of the Aiken Concert Band where he was an assistant conductor and music arranger.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Bisset Foss; children - Erica Anne Foss and William Westley Foss; step-children, Lindsey Ann Armstrong & David Garris Armstrong; and grandchildren – Chase Gavin Foss and Sage Samantha Greer.
