Greetings!

Thank you for your continued membership in our local chapter of Chi Sigma Iota! The executive team and our committees have been working hard to create activities and increase community involvement. We hope that you will partake in some of our upcoming events and tell your friends! As always, we remain open to new ideas about how we can work to serve your needs and promote excellence in scholarship and counseling. Kappa Sigma Upsilon, the Kent State University chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, organized and participated in several successful events during the Fall 2016 semester. Beginning in September with the Black Squirrel Festival, the student and faculty members of CSI represented the counseling organization’s mission to promote excellence in counseling.

In addition to regular monthly meetings, the semester’s events included the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Walk for Recovery on September 24th 2016. Several CSI members raised money and participated in the walk to help improve the lives of individuals and families dealing with mental illness. CSI also hosted a self-care themed paint night! Inspired by the popular “paint-and-sip” events offered by many art studios, CSI threw its own paint party (minus the wine). Many nerves were soothed and masterpieces created at the well-attended event. CSI’s Professional Development Committee helped set up Green Dot Training for CSI members this Fall. The all-day event included instruction in ways to actively prevent violence in the community through education, awareness, and skills.

CSI also hosted two socials this semester: The Halloween social and the Holiday Hot Cocoa Social. Mini pumpkins were painted with delightful results at the Halloween Social. Unfortunately, due to unseasonably warm weather, no hot cocoa was consumed at the Holiday Hot Cocoa social. Both events followed directly after the regular CSI meetings.
